I was tempted by this lens after my huge disappointment with the new Canon 25-105 f4 II L. The images from the Canon lens on my 5D Mark IV never felt quite right — soft and lacking contrast. I thought it might have been the particular lens I received, or the IS system, but after careful calibration and a trip to Canon Professional Services, I was assured it was all working as it was meant to — but it still didnt render impressive results. Enter the Sigma. An older lens than the few-month-old Canon, it is a staggering improvement over the Canon offering, and for less money. I did many real world side-by-side tests with the Canon 24-105mm II, and the Sigma is simply a superior lens. The most noticeable difference is that it is considerably sharper. I have attached two 100% image crops from the 5D Mark IV, without retouching, showing the difference. The settings and condition were the same for both shots. (Im hoping the Amazon image upload/compression doesnt negate the visible sharpness difference!) The Sigma is the first image of the two. Beyond the superior sharpness, the Sigma exhibited marginally less distortion, and marginally less chromatic aberration. Vignetting is roughly the same. One very interesting note, is that the Sigma transmits nearly one stop more of light than the Canon, despite both being f4. I confirmed this across a range of comparative shots using Lightroom. Its also cooler looking and no more bulky than the Canon. Its my first foray into the "Art" lens series, having been a lifelong "L" glass guy, but in future I am going to be seriously looking at the Sigma offerings alongside the Canon ones. I am mightily impressed. Of course, I did my comparisons using the particular lenses I received. I guess "your mileage may vary" as they say!

Im a Nikon-shooting wedding photographer. I bought this because I needed a replacement for my hardy Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 while it was out being repaired (its been shooting HARD for 6 years), and I could always use an extra wide angle (my wife shares my equipment). So heres what I found: Excellent focusing, even in the dark. The Nikkor 24-70 would give me soft-focus issues every once in a while, but NOT the Sigma. The Sigma is sharper than the Nikkor 24-70 at every aperture, and would have a little more contrast and slightly poppier colors. It DOES vignette often in the telephoto range, but I personally LIKE that look, so I wont complain about it. Just know that its there. The f/4 aperture might put some people off, but honestly, if youre shooting wide-angle, do you really need a wider aperture for most circumstances? Probably not. If youre a natural light shooter, I can see it causing problems - especially on older bodies where you cant crank up the ISO to compensate for the aperture. On a shallower note, this is a beautiful lens. Its just so freakin well crafted and beautiful to look at. Its got a nice weight to it, and just oozes quality glass - something Id never thought Id mention in a review. The weight might be a problem for some, but this is a professional lens - you kinda have to expect it to be heavy. In conclusion, this lens is a great buy. Great all purpose focal lengths, decent constant aperture, impeccable focusing, and handsome to boot. I prefer this lens over my Nikkor 24-70, and its half the price. Kind of a no-brainer.

I use this on my A7R III, and I absolutely love this lens. I wish it were slightly lighter and smaller, but the cheaper price compared to Sony makes the trade-off worth it. This lens works flawlessly and delivers superb images. Paired with the MC-11 adapter, I often forget it’s adapted. Update 2018.03.22: I updated my MC-11 firmware to the most recent version, and now the lens hunts in continuous AF if I am using flexible spot. Just an FYI. Will likely be resolved with another update, but I thought I might mention it now.

Gorgeous imagery, smooth and quiet zooming and focusing. Perfect for full-frame video on Sony A7 series.

Had it for a few months with the MC-11 and Sony a7rii. The focusing hunts forever and a day before it finally locks on. Even on perfectly sunny days. I really wanted this combo to work since its half the price of the Sony 24-105, but it just didnt live up to my expectations. I have other Sigma lenses that work amazingly with my Sony such as the 50mm f/1.4 and the 135mm f/1.8 Note: I did not try it with a Canon body. The results could be completely different.

By far my favorite Lens. Very versatile and sharp my only gripe is that this lens is not weather sealed which for a true "all-purpose" lens is a significant limitation. In every other way it out-performs both version 1 and 2 of the Canon 24-105mm, including T stop values (lets in more light). IS is as good as advertised. It is only because of the weather sealing that I give it 4 stars

Great lens. It is heavy and large but the image quality is fantastic. I am getting very accurate auto focus out of the box and of course you can easily tune that if you have sigma docking station. I am a fan of sigmas new lenses. I now have 3 of them and they are all great lenses. I barely ever give 5 stars because even the greatest things need some room for improvement.

Ill just leave this on my camera and be all set. Is it as sharp as three dedicated (wide, normal, and long) primes? Nope. Will it give me night vision and buttery smooth DOF effects? Nope. Its somehow both more reliable and sharper than the Canon version without sacrificing autofocus speed. Colors look as good as they should OOC. Pretty decently chunky too, feels solid. Almost perfectly balances a 5dii with grip.
