This might have been my most unnecessary purchase in a long time, but I did buy it, so I should review it. I grew so impatient waiting for this lens to hit the streets, that I bought the f/1.4 version so that I could have this focal length. That lens is every bit as good as the accolades that are given to it everywhere that people discuss Fuji lenses. So, why the seemingly redundant purchase? The f/1.4 lens is right at the edge of too large for the petite Fuji bodies. It is optically great, but I use dx cameras when I want a lower profile than when I carry my full frame DSLRs with fast glass. This f/2.8 lens returns my X-T2 to the small kit that made me purchase it in the first place. It fits neatly into the f/2 set (23, 35, 50mm) in terms of size and operation. If you are in good light, shooting in the middle of the aperture range, say f/5.6, then after much non scientific testing, I feel like you give up little by using this smaller, lighter model over the faster version. I did some brick wall tests, and this lens is capable of edge to edge sharpness from one stop down. I prefer the smaller lens in use because it is effortless to carry and you can carry your camera everywhere which means you might be more likely to have it with you. I really know when Im using the f/1.4 lens because the size and weight lets you know its there. To be clear, this slower lens is not a replacement for the faster lens in low light environmental type shooting. Shots made at f/1.4 with the wide angle view are magical. However, this small lens is fine for the way most people use wide angle lenses, that is stopped down for medium to deep depth of field in pursuit of street, city and landscape photos. I gave the f/1.4 lens 5 stars, and based on the difference of a 1000 dollar lens against a 400 dollar lens, I rate this lens 5 stars for cost to performance.

Sure, its one more good Fuji Lens. Its not their sharpest, but it is sharp, and it covers a certain focal range that makes it one of the lenses you want. Do you need telephoto? Do you like the heavy as a brick 18-55mm that you bought because your Fuji has no IS? Well, then, get this lens and get the X-H1, and stop buying. Its all you need, tho the Leica D-Lux 7, and the Sony RX10-3, are also really nice to own if you like an elegant little camera and one with a whole lot of zoom. But regarding your Fujis..You could add the 27mm, and if need be the 35, but, thats is all you need, as you already have the 18-55mm, right? The X_H1 is a very good Fuji camera, no stupid flip out screen because it tilts like a pro-camera should, and if you add those 3 lenses you are set for years and years. Remember...... a cell phone is for your selfies, and a camera is for your photography. The Lens AF is quiet, fast, and accurate. The lens is not heavy, and the lens will look good on all your Fujis. Its sort of a medium small size, but not exactly small. Colors are good, ease of use is very good, and you can do Macro@about 4-inches (closest), so thats also very good. Price reflects = a very good value. Get it, i predict youll like it.

Ive had this lens for a month now and used it on both an X-T2 and X-E2. Im a stills photographer who rarely shoots video, so I cant comment on that aspect of the lens. Ive had a 24mm or equivalent lens with every camera brand Ive owned. I like the perspective and slightly wider rendering without distortion that this length brings to my photography. The Fujinon 16mm f2.8 fills a very familiar place in my kit. Very small and light, its a good choice for handheld shooting while wandering around town. I shoot mostly landscape yet I didnt buy this lens for that purpose, I prefer slightly longer lenses for that. For me the 16mm 2.8 fits in for interiors and cityscape photography. The smaller and more compact size of the f2.8 handles very well on either of my camera bodies and the quiet, snappy focus means I havent missed a shot yet. The close focusing capability is at about 6", really good for tabletop shots. I chose the f2.8 version over the f1.4 because I seldom shoot that wide open, often favoring f4 to f8 for most images. If you are all about bokeh and shallow DOF this lens is probably not for you. Yet I find that at 2.8 this lens does do a pleasing job of rendering backgrounds in a way that adds depth behind my main subject. Quite good, not just good enough. Over time I have found that I like two basic lens kits for my shooting. First, a set of prime lenses with the specific purpose of slowing down and thinking about each shot or situation, then a two lens zoom kit for general photography. For Fuji the prime kit is the Rokinon 12mm and the four Fujinon compacts 16, 23, 35, and 50. By adding the 16mm f2.8 to my prime lens lineup I feel like I have a nearly complete kit lacking only a moderate telephoto. Both images taken with the 16mm f2.8. The B&W is a three-frame HDR shot handheld and the gas station image is sooc .jpg shot with Classic Chrome.

I used this lens almost exclusively on my Fuji X-T30 camera during a two-week trip to Spain in late April. The lens is absolutely awesome: quite sharp, focusses quickly, produces great colors and weighs almost nothing. I purchased the X-T30 with the 16mm Fujinon lens because I wanted a camera/lens combination that was light and sharp, and this combination really came through. I also had a 35mm Fujinon lens during this trip, but that lens rarely came out of the bag because I was so pleased with the field of view of the16mm lens. I shot almost 2,000 RAW+JPEG images during the two weeks of travel, and Ive been extremely pleased with the sharpness and color of the images.

Hard to believe Fuji has made a classic wide angle focal length in such a compact lens... and weather resistant. This length is not that useful for street photography, but is so small and light weight you can stick in your bag for those times when you want to catch the whole scene. Now if they would just redo the 18mm with weather resistance and faster autofocus Id be in street heaven.

I was hesitating which would be the companion of my Fujifilm XT3, I was choosing between the 16mm 1.4, 16mm 2.8, or even one with wider aperture. I decided for the 16mm 2.8 because its small, cheaper, WR and very lightweight. Now that I already took hundreds of pictures with it I can say that I absolutely love it!!! The picture quality you get with this little lens is amazing, and it is very fast to autofocus. Its amazing the level of details you get when you zoom in the pictures. (keep in mind the big quality loss due to jpeg compression)

I love this angle for family pics. It allows you to be close to your family members, which we usually are, and yet still fit in the picture the context of what they’re doing. I was lacking the context of what they’re doing and the background when using a 35mm only.
