Install Flash Player I am a real estate photographer, Ive had this lens for 2 years and its paid for itself over and over again. I use it on My Canon 70D. I am very happy with it. This is the lens I was recommended when I started in Real Estate and I am paying it forward. Its great for the money. The least expensive ultra wide for your crop sensor. Its lightweight, got quiet auto focus and image stabilization. Its not great for low light and there is some lens distortion, complete plastic construction, and you may get flares off lights, but with experience you will get around that. For the price its a 5 star lens. I will continue to use it and have no intentions in stopping. Its My go to lens.

Special purchase because I was headed back to Horseshoe Bend just below Page Arizona. Fantastic results...

I shoot a lot of real estate, and had been using the Canon 10-22mm as my main lens. After reading Ken Rockwells glowing review on the 10-18mm, I thought Id try it out. My first day with the new lens, I noticed a major drawback, which is that it flares very easily when photographing light sources. "Ghosting" may be the more appropriate term - youll see green blobs show up underneath direct light sources, especially chandeliers or any kind of bare light source. (See attached bedroom picture.) It took me a little longer to notice the next drawback, but reviewing my photos after shoots, I was seeing that the lens has considerable barrel distortion in certain shots, probably mostly at the wider focal lengths. Some photos have a slight fisheye bulge to them where straight lines appear to curve. The attached picture of the bedroom was taken at 11mm - you can see the distortion on the door on the right edge. The one very nice advantage it has over the 10-22mm is that is more consistently sharp from edge to edge across all focal lengths. Id always get a few shots with my 10-22 that really faded away into dullness on one side, but this never happens with the 10-18mm.

This lens is AMAZING. It was easily the best decision for an inexpensive wide angle. Im a photographer that is pretty hard on my equipment. Dont let the plastic fool you. Its durable, sturdy and I couldnt be happier with it. Amazing.

The EF-S 10-18 4.5-5.6 IS STM is the least expensive and smallest ultra wide zoom among a small field of contenders. The EF-S mount fits APS-C (1.6X crop) cameras only, e.g., Rebel series or 70D. It does not fit full-frame models like the 5D or 6D. Heres my take on this able little lens after a couple months of shooting on a SL1. BUILD: Like the 18-55 STM, its made of plastic, save for optics and electronics. However, it feels solid in hand: plastics are good quality, no play in the mount or barrel and it’s nicely finished in semi-matte black. It’s a featherlight 240g and easy to slip in a coat pocket or purse. FOCUS is internal--no front element extension or turning—and peppy enough, but slower than the EF-s 10-22 3.5-4.5 USM. However, focus is silent to onboard mics. The STM drive rendered pulls and Movie Servo silky smooth on my SL1. The "by wire," i.e., powered manual focus is smooth but lacks the control of a mechanical ring. FTM (full time manual) allows manual focus without flipping a switch. FTM only works when the camera is switched on with the shutter button half-pressed. ZOOM: The ribbed zoom ring turns silky smooth. A nested barrel extends from the main barrel slightly at 10mm and 18mm, but is fully retracted at 14mm. The zoom range is only 1.8X, but short ratios are the norm for wide zooms. IMAGE STABILIZER (IS) yields two additional stops of hand holdable range at 10mm and three-stops at 18mm, but not the four-stops claimed by Canon. A more steady hand might squeeze out four-stops. IS is quiet and isnt audible on video when using built-in mics. OPTICAL PERFORMANCE wide open is sharp center frame with slight softness in corners. Stop down to F8 and corners sharpen up. Sharpness is consistent across most of the zoom range, with minor degradation towards the long end. Theres barrel distortion at the wide end but fades towards 18mm. Chromatic aberration (CA) is well controlled with only slight magenta fringing along high contrast edges. e.g., tree branches against a bright sky. CA is nominal at 10mm but more pronounced at 22mm. Light falloff (corner darkening) is pronounced: heavy vignetting at 10mm from F4.5 until F11. It lessens as you zoom toward 18mm and/or stop down, but is always there. If you shoot JPEGs, Peripheral Illumination Correction can automatically reduce light falloff. RAW shooters may correct with a few clicks in Lightroom or DPP. Photos of sunsets, spotlights and other bright light sources exhibit little flare wide open. Oddly, flare appears with bright light sources when stopped down to F11 or 16. Use a hood to help protect from stray light, doggie noses and raindrops. The Canon Lens Hood EW-73C is an accessory and costs a cringe worthy $28. A knockoff hood, the JJC LH-73C Lens Hood Shade For Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens Replaces EW-73C is available for 1/3 the cost of OEM. The dilemma is choosing between this lens and the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM . Image quality is a tossup so other features will be the deciding factor. The USM lens has 4mm of reach, 1-stop faster aperture at 10mm, better build, distance scale, sturdy metal mount and faster AF. On the other hand, the STM lens is $300 less, smaller and lighter, includes IS and the STM drive is silent and smooth when using Movie Servo on a 70D, 7D MKII, SL1, T5i or T6i. LAST BLURB: Canon cut a few corners to swing this price but did so with few compromises in optical quality or function. The result is a marvelous lightweight zoom for landscapes, tight quarters or any situation a sweeping view is desired. The EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM is a wonderful performer and value.

I really enjoy this lens... Some have commented about the plastic mount. Yes, I have no opinion regarding plastic versus metal. It seems to work flawlessly and in no way impacts the value of this lens... However, if metal versus plastic is very important to you, this might not be the lens for you. If paper vs metal isnt critically important, you just might LOVE this lens. I know I do! Super fast focusing. Super quiet focusing. I usually use manual focusing but this lens focuses so accurately and quickly, I dont have a need to auto focus. The size with the Canon EW-73C Lens hood projects a very diminutive profile making it a very quick to deploy lens no matter what type of camera carry system you use. I use the BlackRapid Double Strap System, Peak Designs Quick Release System, and the Peak Design Wide Strap. The lens doesnt set the lens off balance at all, no matter how you carry it. As to the images, because certainly that is most important to me; Ive used VERY expensive lenses of this focus length and the Canon EF-S 10-18 STM is VERY comparable at a far lower price.... I mentioned the ease of auto focus and that my preference is manual normally, but if one uses the manual focus it is super fast and easy because the auto focus ring is awesome! I wish I found this Lens sooner! I mostly shoot wildlife and landscapes and I am a total amateur, but I really enjoy photography, and this lens REALLY creates an incredibly shallow bokeh. This can be a great feature when shooting portraits. You do have to get pretty close to your subject though, but if that doesnt disturb your subject, shoot away! Enjoy this lens, I know I do!

By far my favorite lens. Was hesitant about purchasing this lens, but I went through with it and Im glad I did. Delivers a Very sharp image with minimal distortion and chromatic aberration. Excellent lens for the price.

This looks like a great little vlogging lens for medium sensor cameras like the 80D. In theory. Because 10-18mm is 16-29mm equivalent, which is wide enough. And it is light weight, has stabilization and a silent step motor, all desirable features for any video work. But in practice I found this lens just too slow (in terms of aperture) for general vlogging purposes. Unless you want your face very deformed, you end up using it in the 14mm and above range, where the aperture drops to f/5.6. Meaning all indoor footage turns out either extremely grainy or under exposed. Even at 10mm and f/4.5 its still quite dark. So unless you are planning to vlog in full daylight only, I can not recommend this lens. For photography its not even worth considering, it is not a particularly sharp lens and the step motor offers no benefit in photography. In the same price range you can get an older model lens, with USM motor (or no motorized AF at all), but sharper glass and/or more aperture instead. For a really cheap vlogging solution on Canon APS-C cameras, get the Canon 24mm f/2.8 pancake lens and screw a $15 wide angle converter lens on it. You will get a wide enough angle (just about), with blurry edges but good enough center focus. Enough to keep you going until you can afford the holy grail of APS-C vlogging, the weather sealed Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 AF.

... because the other is not better in this zoom range and price range. I bought this lens only for some specific pics I needed, and I was actually pleasantly surprised. REMEMBER to turn the cameras peripheral light correction ON (its a setting in the menu). Tests by professionals have it frequently as the best in its category/price. IF you need a very wide lens, one of the best choices. Four stars for missing a better manual focus for night photography. But it does focus perfectly with very little light, as long as you have enough contrast.

Like most of the other comments on here saying about hesitating in purchasing this lens, I too thought twice before purchasing and was actually thinking in buying a pricier one. But let me tell you, I absolutely love this lens! I havent tested out the other higher end ones, but this one so far gets the job done! No regrets! About my pictures, most of them are low quality because Im writing this from my other computer and I dont have the higher resolution pics here, but just so you can get an idea of what it can do.
