This inexpensive ring light works well with my Canon 100mm macro. It does have flash but it tends to over expose the macro shots. The light mode gives plenty of light for the macro shooting. I have not experimented with the different colors or neutral density filters. There are adapters for many size lenses. My only negative is that you have to disconnect the light from the lens and then screw the adaptor out to use the lens cap.

Wicked bright, and wicked flexible. For someone who is looking for the "ring light" affect in their portraits or selfie videos, this is an affordable way to get it. Useful for macro, where light at the end of the lens, entirely on the subject is necessary. Also very good video, as the lens will not cast a shadow on your subject, like when using a cold-shoe mounted light. the brightness is adjustable, as well as it has a simple "flash" feature that might be useful... Burns through batteries fairly quickly, depending on your settings, so grab some rechargeable batteries. The little color gel rings are nice.. Youll probably just use the ring light without them, and adjust your white balance, unless youre trying to match a certain lighting scene. The thread adapters are a nice touch. There is almost certainly an adapter to get you by as long as you have a full set of step up and step down rings. Also sold by Neewer for a decent price.

Shipping took forever.. A months time! Ugh! However the light is tons of fun and love that it is continuous light as well as a flash! Happy that it has a display screen. Macro shooting is amazing with this light and it could be pitch black and still puts out enough light for a clean, crisp picture. I took tons of pics just playing around and cant wait to take more! Great buy, happy customer!

The wife bought this for me as a gift. I did play with it a little bit with taking some macro shots and it seemed to do well. One thing I found is that it would not fire the flash mode while in live view on my Canon 80d. After some searching I found that the SILENT SHUTTER mode was by default active when in LIVE VIEW mode on the camera. Once I turned it off the flash fired as expected. Turns out the same held true for using a standard flash as well.

I couldnt justify the cost of a pro-series ring flash, so I gave this baby a try. Works perfectly for product photography. It allows me to be be right on my subject and still have light from the front. EXCELLENT for Macro photography. The included rings allow me to work between my different lenses easily. There are options on the battery unit for Flash or Constant light. Ive used both and they are great!

The Neewer 48 Macro LED Ring Flash is outstanding! It comes with a ton of adapter rings (8 of them) from 49mm to 77mm. The adapters are plastic, but seem sturdy enough. I read in several reviews that the 62mm adapter does not work well. I have a camera that requires a 62mm adapter, so tried the adapter that came with the Neewer Ring Flash and guess what? It did not work well. It was too loose and would not stay in the camera. I took the adapter off and put my UV filter back on and screwed it into the UV filter and it works fine there. It was a tight fit and stayed in place. I have a 62 to 67mm metal adapter so I screwed that adapter into the camera and tried the 67mm adapter that came with the flash and it works great too. Nice tight fit! There are actually 4 modes with the flash. Continuous, Flash, Left, and Right. In the Continuous Mode the light stays on all the time. In the Flash Mode, the camera will set off the flash. In the Left or Right Mode the camera also sets off the flash. I wondered how the camera could set off the flash as I could find no reference to the Flash Mode and how it works in any other review. The flash foot has a pin, and any camera that has a hot shoe will set off the flash. The flash intensity is adjustable from -1.5 to +1.5. I found that in taking shots of objects inside, the background behind the object was dark, and that is nice. It pulls the eyes towards the target and not the background. The flash unit comes with 4 diffusers, but I did not try them yet. I am more than satisfied with the clear one. It also comes with a flash shoe for shots with the flash on a tripod or just sitting. To turn it on, just hold the ON/OFF button for a second or so, and it is turned off the same way. The ring flash is not made like a normal flash and will not light an object 10 feet away. It is made for close up macro work. It works great outside during the day as a flash fill for taking plant and flower shots. I would not use the flash for anything more than 3 or 4 feet, especially outside as a fill flash. It might work well as a portrait flash as the lighting will be well balanced and there will be no shadows. If shadows are wanted, then I would use the Left or Right bank instead. The Neewer Ring Flash is easy to use. It does vignette (can see the sides of the flash in the lens) at my camera wide open zoom setting though. I rarely use the camera at wide open zoom when taking macro shots, and to get rid of the vignetting I had to zoom to about 1X and it was gone. I took some shots at wide open and kind of liked the look of the vignetted setting on the lens with the flash. It moves the eyes to the center and I do that in software very often for that same effect.
