OK, admittedly, I received a set that had a problem, because when you turned the TV on, the screen was completely dark half the time. Contacted Vizio and was given two pages of troubleshooting. After completing those steps, this is what Vizio stated: "If your VIZIO is outside of the first 12 months of ownership (& not purchased through one of the select few retailers like Costco or HSN) then per the troubleshooting we have completed on your VIZIO, it is in need of replacement. Generally, the cost to repair is beyond economical and it is more cost efficient most times to purchase a replacement TV. However, if you would like a quote on parts/labor for repair I would recommend contacting someone local." I had recently purchased the TV, so of course I was going to return it. I went through each and every trouble shooting step and it was obvious that the problem was either the main board, the T-con board or backlight. My bet was the backlight, but I only did the primitive flashlight test and did not remove the back. I have no intention of trying to repair something Id just purchased. In addition to this problem, there are a few other things I didnt care for about this TV. It has a 60 htz refresh rate. I know, I know, its a cheap TV. Go a few more bucks and get a "120 htz refresh rate". You can change between modes (game, theater etc.), but you cant change how clear and sharp the picture is. Comparing this picture to my older Vizio, the older 120 htz is nearly twice as clear. This is like looking through a plastic screen at the TV. Its hard to explain, except that its more muted or slightly more blurred. Like the difference between VCR tapes and DVD discs. OK, maybe not that much of a difference, but absolutely a big difference. Remember this TV has "Half" the refresh rate of a 120 htz TV. Go, into a store and compare two TVs side by side to see the difference in picture. OK, Ill get off my soapbox there. This TV is super lightweight. That means you can easily pick it up. It weighs about 1/3 of my 6 year old 37" Vizio TV. Not so sure thats a great thing. First make sure you have it centered squarely on a stand, where it wont get knocked over easily. Theyve really condensed everything on these TVs. The mainboard is basically one small unit. The T-con board is one small unit. If the backlight or anything goes out on these, the TV is so cheap, its cheaper to replace the TV. What Vizio is stating, is that it is so expensive to have these units worked on (basically the labor is what kills you), that its cheaper to buy another one. As far as the sound on this TV, it is a bit tinny, but I didnt think it was too bad. You can of course, get a sound bar and they have some pretty good ones now that are reasonably priced. I did like all the FREE channels available. That was a big plus. Unlike some people, I didnt have a problem with losing my network connection, but I think a lot of that depends on your router and may not be the fault of this TV. Getting down to Casting, thats a different story. That proved to be somewhat of a problem. Big problem, but the more I read about this, ALL the internet connected TVs are having problems with this. More work needs to be done on the casting issue. The only thing I want casting for is to play "Online Games" on the larger screen TV and it did not work so well. It didnt work any better than casting with Miracast and the other casting apps Ive tried on the smart TVs and android TV boxes. I am getting ready to purchase the entire NVidia Shield system. Friends really seem to like that, so I want to try it and see if that works better. So far, my problem with casting, is that Ill be gaming & knocked off in the middle of playing with someone (usually when Im winning. It cant seem to happen when Im losing.) ARGH!!! So, my thoughts on this TV: 1. The picture could be a better 60 Htz refreshing rate vs. 120 Htz. 2. Sound is a bit Tinny, but that wont bother some people and can be corrected with external speakers or sound bar 3. Internet connection seems to hold strong 4. Great assortment of FREE channels-DROP that cable TV 5. Smart TV feature works well-several apps, but limited as to what you can access-No Google-Most of their apps are commercial (they pay Vizio) 6. Remote has Quick Access to most Popular Streaming Apps (I dont really like that, because the remote is filled with apps I dont use) 7. Casting does not seem to work well-Needs improvement on this front Im torn on this TV. Id recommend it for a CHEAP entry level TV. But remember, it is a "Cheap" Smart TV with Added Features. I wont repurchase it. Id prefer to put another $100 or $150 on a better TV and get something that will last. This TV has lots of features. I do not think it will in any way, last past 3 years. But, again its a cheap price and if you only want it for two or three years, then its a real bargain. BTW, this TV at Target only had a 30 return window. Most TVs and computers only have 30 days to return them, not 90 days like other items. If theres a problem, it will usually show in that time, so do check that when purchasing. Thank you for reading my review.

A huge reason we picked this TV was that it was SUPPOSE to work with Alexa. TV says paired, Alexa says paired, but when giving her a command she says okay then NOTHING happens. Contacted Vizio support and went through everything with them just to be told some of their TVs just dont work with Alexa and they are waiting on a firmware update but have no idea when that will be. So I was sold this TV under false pretenses. Alexa does NOT work with it.

Everything is fine except the unbelievably small on screen display text (channel, title, and description of program. Even on this 40 inch TV, it is too small. If you make the text bigger (Zoom), both Title and description go off the screen. It shouldnt be that hard to make a TV with readable text.

“Smartcast” works about 30% of the time so it’s hardly a smart TV. And yes it’s fully connected to the internet.

I bought my 3 days before Xmas, the backlight goes out in less than 72 hours. Called Vizio and the customer service representative helpful. Just sent my label, now Im returning for a another brand new TV. But I must say good TV despite issue.
