I received this projector today, and set it up this morning. Ive been using it for a few hours so I dont have much time with this. Later I will update the review if something changes. This is the updated version of the Optoma HD142x. Its got basically the same specs except the lamp for the HD143x supposedly lasts longer. Thats the only information I could find that was different. So first off, I have only had experience with cheap projectors with weird, just different enough names to not infringe on trademarks. So if you are coming from a sub 200 dollar projector to this, your jaw will hit the floor when you see the differences. The picture quality is fantastic. I have just a little under 100 inches of screen, at about 9.5 feet throw distance. If you have a small room, this isnt a short throw projector, so you may not get the screen size youd like. Tried some HD movies llke Blade Runner 2049 and Ghost in the Shell, and I was really impressed. You arent going to get the blacks that you get on a plasma or OLED screen, but the colors were really vivid. Even with ambient light and lights turned on, the screen was still bright enough to watch without issue. The blacks turn into browns, but it is definitely watchable. I didnt notice any rainbow effect, either, which I guess is sometimes an issues with DLP projectors. I then hooked up my PS4 and tried out Horizon Zero Dawn, easily the best looking game on the system. The HD143x has a game mode in the menu settings that brightens the screen and does some things to fake an increase in FPS. This is noticeable. I could see the slight slowdown that usually occurs with lower FPS immediately, but I dont think it would be enough to hamper my playtime or my enjoyment. But if you are a pc gamer playing on a 120Hz screen and move to this, maybe not, I dont know if Ill be doing it. This projector doesnt have a lens shift, but it does have an electric keystroke, which is so much nicer than those analog keystroke levers you get on cheap projectors. It also has a 3 screw mount setup. Most of the universal mounts I found were for 4 screw setups, but I was able to make it work no problem. Its also extremely quiet. Id say its only slightly louder than my ceiling fan. Its a great projector. Its the best projector Ive ever owned, but I only owned cheap ones prior to this, so I dont know how it compares to others in this price range. I think my dad may actually buy one for himself. He saw mine and wanted one. P.S. the projector doesnt have blue tooth, so if you want to sync it up to your blue tooth system, youll want to get a transmitter. It has 1 usb port, but it is for power only, meaning you cant plug in a usb drive and play movies or music.

Just like mike96a1 stated in his review, for some reason there is "oversplash" around the entire border of the projected image.. played around with some of the settings but have not found a way to get rid of it.. very annoying when projecting on a screen.. Picture quality is great, fan noise is minimal, just to bad it has this flaw... I hope Optoma sees this review and responds with a way to adjust or fix this issue.. I Will adjust the star rating if this issue gets resolved..

I dont normally write reviews but this one needs to be seen. After only two months of use the screen now has discoloration and dead pixels, both white and black. I have emailed Optoma and havent gotten a response about some kind of warranty, but it looks like they arent going to fix this without me shelling out a few hundred bucks. After doing some research, it looks like they cheap out of the thermal paste with their chips and they burn up pretty fast. So, short of me replacing the dmd chip myself which will also cost a couple hundred bucks, it appears Im out $500. Dont buy this garbage, it will fail on you.

Picture quality is pretty good compared to other models and brands Ive seen. One big issue is that the zoom and keystone are VERY limited so youll like end up not using all your screen and having it a bit misaligned within the screen. If the projector didnt seem like such good value I would definitely have returned it over this issue as it makes accurate mounting very difficult. If you think Im exaggerating, for a 120" screen it felt like I had less than an inch or two of "play" in the mounting position which really makes things difficult. The same issue with the keystone, it just doesnt seem like theres an ideal position / adjustment. The projector also tends to "search" a bit in between show or app changes (eg from Roku to chromecast) even though its run through an AVR and the EDID handling shouldnt be affected. So, its an ok value but has some significant limitations for me.

This projector is seriously perfect!!!! I was worried when my husband bought it because it wasn’t one of the top priced projectors and usually the higher the price, the better the product... but this proved that theory wrong! The picture is literally perfect and it’s just on my living room wall. It fits my wall at any size I would want it from small to the entire wall size and the picture isn’t affected it all. The sound from the projector is loud enough to not even need separate speakers. The sound fills my entire room without it being at max volume. It was easy to set up and I absolutely love having it.

I read many of the reviews on Amazon about the oversplash and at the same time looked at some of the professional reviews from ProjectorCentral and such. Decided to give it a shot nevertheless and I am glad I did. The oversplash phenomenon while present does not detract the overall experience for an average consumer. It is so mild and sometimes non existent depending on the content and brightness levels. I was able to enjoy a very bright and razor sharp 140inch display without the oversplash while connecting my Xbox One and Android TV. The menu system is very detailed and gives you a lot of control. One cool thing is, I get to choose the color of the wall on which the image will be projected and that automatically optimizes the output color setting accordingly. The 10 second menu timeout issue did not have an impact for me since the menu disappears only if you leave it idle for 10 full seconds. I would have loved more zoom length but for the money I paid, I can live with that. I havent tried the 3D yet but gaming was very immersive. Even without using the Game mode, I didnt experience any noticeable lag on Need for Speed and Forza. Havent tried any FPS games but I am sure the experience will be positive. I will update the review with more findings soon. Negative: The one thing that I am not happy about is the height adjustment screws at the bottom. Only two of the three are moving, the other one is just molded plastic and does not move. If you have an uneven surface for placing the projector, this is a real challenge. Optoma needs to explain why they did this and also make it clear in their manuals (the manual still says "three height adjustment screws").

Great projector for the money. Very clear and bright image. I didnt notice any of the white hazing around the edges of the images like a lot of other reviewers did. The good: - Very clear image - Light up remote control - Super quiet fan, especially on eco mode - Multiple HDMI inputs - MHL support - Powered USB port (but if you want to use a fire stick and you turn off the projector, it will kill power to that port) The bad: - Picture color accuracy could be better - They changed the sleep timer. I cant seem to cancel it if its about to go off. Its weird because my previous optoma projector let me do this. Overall, its a great projector. The bad took me a while to come up with and are not deal breakers to me.

If you are looking for a good LCD projector, DO NOT BUY THIS! I bought this six months ago based on the reviews on Amazon. What a terrible, horrible mistake. When it arrived, I was astonished to find what a poorly constructed, cheap piece of plastic it was - something that looks like it cost less than $5 to make, not $500. But far worse was that this doesnt work. It takes about 10 minutes for the lamp to turn on each time - seriously! It makes loud sounds and heats up like its about to catch on fire. It didnt come with cables to attach to a Mac, and the instructions were awful and incomprehensible, so that I couldnt find out the correct cables I needed to buy. (I took it to electronic stores but nobody could decipher the terrible instructions from Optoma either.) Finally after 7 weeks, I found the correct cable. It worked once for all of two minutes. Now it says it cannot find the source. We have tried troubleshooting everything, but Optomas instructions do not help. We have a cheap $500 piece of junk that is useless other than producing immense amounts of heat.

Ive had mixed emotions about this projector. When it arrived the Amazon box looked fine but the projector box itself was pretty damaged. There was enough padding inside the box that I dont think it made any difference. When I connected the projector it displayed a much smaller image than I was expecting based on the throw ratio listed. While using the zoom feature I noted that it was good at shrinking the image however it wouldnt enlarge the size of the projection but rather just zoom in on one part of the image. The projector does not create an image that is centered at the height of the projector. The bottom of the projection is at the same height as the projector. This resulted in half the image on the wall and half on the ceiling. In order to get the correct image and size I had to completely rearrange my basement and ceiling mount the projector. Once I got through all that things got better. Originally it was convinient to have the projector off center, however there is no horizontal keystone correction. So I had to rearrange the basement again. The projector does have a useful zoom provided you are trying to shrink the image. It also has a vertical and horizontal image shift which was very useful. The up and downside to that is each source has its own setting so you end up setting it up once for the blu ray player and once for the roku, and once for the Xbox. The good is it will have different settings for each input. The other downside is anytime you change the input or change from the previews on a blu ray to the main menu you have to wait while the projector detects what the source is and reloads the settings. Very annoying and unnecessary. It does have built in test patterns for screen calibration, which us nice. The remote lights up well. The strange thing is the on and off buttons are not the same button. I also cant seem to find a remote code for the projector so I cant use a universal remote. Additionally the remote has keys which dont do anything. My unit also seems very picky about the remote angle relative to the unit. The image itself is nice and sharp. At night it looks great but it suffers a lot in a room with light. This is a problem with all projectors I know. I expected it to be a bit brighter. The brightness difference between vivid and eco mode isnt very noticable, however the difference in fan noise is very noticeable. Speaking of noise, when the projector starts up it emits a high pitch squeek for several minutes. Not real loud, but annoying until your show starts playing sound. The biggest issue was that after about 1 month of use the projector lamp died. Called optoma and they said to try Amazon first and if that didnt work they would step in. Hooray to Amazon. Even though I was a few days outside the 30 day return window they processed a very fast replacement. Not sure if this was related to the damaged box or not. I love the big screen but it has come with waaaayyyy more baggage than I was expecting. Fortunately I was able to rearrange my basement othwmerwise I would have been really unhappy. If I had to do it all over again I dont know if I would do it again honestly. Maybe my opinion will change after years or reliable use.

I read the reviews (which were very impressive) before I decided to buy this Optoma HD143X projector for our basement hometheater. In the begining I thought the picture quality was good. Incidentally I had to buy another projector (Viewsonic PA503S SVGA, much cheaper in price) soon after for our gameroom which allowed me to make a comparison between the two. Now I realize how dull the images are with the Optoma projector. I wish I hadnt believed the reviews and I had not bought the Optoma projector to begin with!
