Incredibly nice projector. I am glad we didnt go for the more expensive models because this one is amazing already. The picture is incredibly clear. We have it projecting onto a 100 inch Elite screen and it is just as clear and bright as the TV at night time. It is also bright enough that we can watch it during the day as well with all of the lights in the room turned on. The picture isnt AS bright of course, but it is plenty bright enough to watch and enjoy. At first I was looking at one of the Epson projectors because I was really worried about the DLP and the rainbow effect I have read about. We are using it in a room with some windows though and this one had a higher brightness rating on it. I also figured I could just send it back if the rainbow thing was an issue. No one in our family has noticed any rainbow effects and we have watched several different kinds of movies and shows. I was also looking at getting the Optoma HD143X because it was the same price point and had a lot of good reviews. I went with this one because I like the brand name and the fan was rated as quieter. I dont know what the Optomas fan is like, but this one is incredibly quiet. We dont have it mounted on the ceiling yet so we are sitting right next to it and you cant even hear the fan going at all. I think it looks nicer than the Optoma one too. The only possible downside is the speakers on this one are really quiet. I mean even at full volume and right next to it, you can hardly hear it. They are almost as quiet as the fan. But we have a separate speaker system hooked up so that wasnt one of the things we were looking for anyway. Several nice features: It can project from behind a screen (flips the picture sideways). We dont plan on using this, but it was a cool feature I didnt know it could do. It can project upside down for when we mount it on the ceiling. It automagically switches between inputs based on which one is turned on and showing a picture. This was an unexpectedly nice feature because we have several items hooked up to it and the projector just switches inputs on its own to whichever one we turn on. It also automatically adjusts the screen size to match what is being shown (4:3, 16:9, etc). The zoom is really helpful. We have a 100 inch screen and as long as this projector is within a foot or so of the 11 foot distance sweet spot for that size, you can just zoom to make the picture bigger or smaller to match the screen size. It doesnt change the picture quality or the focus at all. It just changes the size of the picture. That is going to be really helpful for mounting it because I am sure we wont get it in the exact right place down to the inch. So the zoom can make up for that. The eco bulb mode is really bright. We have used this day or night and we just leave it on the eco mode and it has been great. There isnt a lens cover. But I didnt want one. Did I mention the picture quality? It is amazing. Im no videophile, but at night on a decent screen, this thing really looks as good as a regular TV. I am sure the more expensive projectors are somehow better, but I dont see how, and whatever small difference they might have couldnt justify the huge price difference to me.

We use this projector in a small movie theater room with Chromecast or Fire Stick HDMI inputs. The picture quality is amazingly bright and crisp. The major downside is the audio output. We tried to use the 3.5 mm output jack with external speakers. The audio output is lower than a common cell phone speaker with both the projector volume and external speakers set to max. This must be a problem with the projector software or hardware as our external speakers are more than sufficient when attached to any other device. Honestly, I cant believe that BenQ released something with such a serious flaw, and wish we had known this before purchasing our projector. Tech support suggested that we purchase additional hardware to compensate for their engineering oversight. I guess this projector should not be considered as a stand-alone piece of equipment if you actually want to hear your movies/games.

Wow... I didnt know what to expect. I found this through the wirecutter and just wow. Ive gone through 2 60" Samsung smart TVs in the past 8 months... And I decided I wasnt going to mess with TVs anymore. So I found this.. A decent balance between what looked good but what was cheap enough to risk if it didnt work out the way I wanted. Only watching my first movie on it but it is gorgeous. Watching it on a naked wall and I can barely tell. Its super bright, even on eco and with the room about a quarter full of sunlight. I am beyond impressed right now. Easy 5/5 stars for now but if anything goes wrong Ill edit my review later.

Pros: Relatively Quiet Clean Aesthetic Look Bright, while maintaining a decent contrast level for a sub $1000 projector Plenty of modern and older connections Cons: Slightly odd mounting holes Menus arent the most intuitive ( you have to go several levels deep to figure out how to rotate the screen)

I purchased this not for a home theatre room, but for a projector that could be portable for outdoor movies. I also didnt want to spend a lot of money as I didnt need 4k or anything like that. I noticed the price on this one had recently went down, and in ready reviews of a lot of other projectors, many people mentioned BenQ so I decided to go with it. Pros: Very Very sharp and great picture. 1080p seems legit. Bright - I was worried about lumens at first as this was my first projector. The 3300 was plenty bright. For Outdoor movies, at dusk light, it looked great. Menu Interface - It was very easy to navigate and set up the settings I wanted. Make sure to change the default picture from presentation to cinema mode for movies. Cons: Rainbow Effect - I did notice rainbow effect for some movies while others were just fine. I need to do some more investigation here. Not a huge mark down however as i only noticed it with one movie (Rogue One via Amazon Fire Stick) Audio - The native speaker is only 2 wats so obviously not nearly strong enough for any setting really, but what disapointed me was when trying to take audio out from the projector to an external speaker via 3.5m or A/V the power was significantly reduced as to what volume I could acheive. It tried to take audio out to a sound bar, and a few other external speakers to no avail. In order to get a strong audio here you must do one of the 2 options AFAIK: 1 - take the sound out to an amplified source like a guitar amp, or 2 - take the hdmi signal to a receiver or HDMI splitter with audio extractor first so that the audio never goes into the projector itself, only the external speaker. This way you bypass the audio limitations of the projector. I suspect most people looking for a permanent solution do this already, just know its not a simple audio out solution so you will need to invest in more things for a good experience. TL;DR - Good projector for the price, very sharp and bright for projector range, be prepared to solve the audio problem with external hardware, as well as an occasional rainbow effect with the DLP

Bright, clear picture at 1080p, even on the Eco setting. Fan is very quiet. Overall, great value for the money!

First projector I have owned and man am i blown away. Coul use a couple more adjustments hence the 4 star review but it really deserves a 5 star im just being nit picky. Works decently well in day light hours but if there are a lot of dark colors they will bleed in day light. Once you turn the lights off and pull the blinds this thing shines though. I am using it on a 100" screen and can still read small text from around 15ft back clearly. I use this for gaming to and do not notice any lag. I have attached a picture of the same spot in a tv show with the lights off vs with them on. Bear in mind my camera phone struggles to take a good picture of this projetors image so it looks a lot better in person.

Install Flash Player I was terrified when buying this projector. I had a 9 year old BenQ projector which I spent about $3000 on at the time. Last year it started having power issues that were blowing the bulbs, so I took a break from projectors due to the headache the last one had caused. I finally decided to buy a new one, but was not willing to spend that kind of money again. I didn’t expect much, but after about 2 weeks of use, I am pleasantly surprised. No, it’s definitely not the clearest imagine I’ve ever seen. There are also some other small issues. One of them is that the I’ve noticed blurry spots on the screen when the camera quickly pans to the left or right in movies/shows. I haven’t noticed any issues with video games thus far or any lag. Also, no rainbow effect. I currently have it set up about 12 feet from the 100” screen and the installation couldn’t have been easier. It looks better at night, but daylight viewing is more than acceptable. This is obviously not the best projector you’ll ever see, but at the price point, it’s incredible. I debated between this one and an Epson projector with slightly better specs and reviews, but what it didn’t have was a 10,000 hour bulb life and a 3 year warranty. Based on my experience with this projector so far, you really can’t go wrong. I will continue to update as time goes on.

I recently purchased a BenQ MH530FHD unit and for the most part, Ive been incredibly satisfied with the product. Unfortunately, however, I am running into an issue with the sound output that could cause me to have to return the item if it cannot be resolved. I first tried running a BluRay player into the projector and then connecting the projector to my soundbar via the Aux output. With this method/setup, the audio was completely inaudible and so rendered my BluRay player completely incompatible with my new home theater setup. While this is annoying, it wasnt the end of the world as I figured I would just connect my FireStick to the projector and then run the sound to my soundbar from the projector (as I assumed the issue was coming from the BluRay player audio incompatibility). I was both right and wrong in this assumption. The sound thats then sent through to the soundbar, through the Aux output on the projector, is definitely louder and more audible than compared to the BluRay connection however at full volume on both the projector and the soundbar, it is still nowhere near where it would need to be in order to be a decent/usable home theater setup. I know that the issue now must be with the output from the projector itself because the soundbar, when connected directly to my laptop using the same Aux cable, produces an incredibly loud sound (to the point where I cant actually have it on full volume). This has meant that my current setup for watching movies/shows is having my laptop connected to the projector via HDMI, and then my soundbar connected to my laptop via Aux cable. So I have three things sitting on a shelf, wires hanging everywhere and am having to use a computer mouse as the remote to control the setup. Which again is not what I envisioned when I invested almost $500 on the BenQ Home Theater Video Projector. I am hoping that this is either simply a faulty unit or an issue that BenQ can help resolve/guide me towards a resolution as aside from the sound issue, I have been very satisfied and excited by the product itself.

Very good. I got this for my shop and there is some stray light. The first projector I got was horrible. Claimed 4000 lumens. Not even close. This one blows the doors off that one. The photo shows the two images projected on the wall. On the right is the bad one. On the left is this BenQ. Its like 5X brighter. And the clarity of the text is amazing. The contrast is amazing. (note, the wall I projected on is just the shop wall. There are marks and holes in it).
