This player is for someone who wants a simple, fast, high waking Blu-ray player that will simply play a disc on your television in the best manner it can. I have a Roku 3 which takes care of all my streaming needs, so I just wanted an uncomplicated player that would load my discs quickly and play. So far, this unit does just that. It quickly loads discs, faster than Ive ever seen in a player. Im bitstreaming audio to my receiver so that I can hear DTS-HD Master. All is well. Its fast, plays every disc new and old, at the highest quality possible with Blu-ray discs

I came into some extra money and decided to upgrade my old Insignia Blu-Ray player with something more modern and at the very least faster so the 0.5 second start up was big draw along with the Opera TV (since Ive always been a big fan (and current user) of the Opera browser. I was surprised to learn that the intervening years of blu=ray tech advancement since the time my old player was made has resulted in a smaller lighter player (so dark, with no light its hard to make out its presence underneath the mini cable box. It was easy as pie to hook, just unplugged the cables from the old one, plugged them into the new one and opted "yes" when asked if Id like to download an update (which only took a minute at the most). I bought this mainly to bring a state of the art tech to my Netflix viewing experience because even though I no direct proof I suspected there was all sorts of stuff that I wasnt seeing due to the age of my old blu-ray player (I was right). The first noticeable change that struck me was how much sharper the tv picture was (I had been playing for Netflix HD but hadnt noticed any difference....until now, and it looks great. And now instead of series just ending and having to chose the next one not only does it play automatically you can also push a button that highlights the episode and shave off a few precious seconds of waiting time and end the credits. Fast forwarding is a lot easier too since the images are much bigger as they go by.. It does everything fast so that really enjoyable. The remote could have been designed better with the directional arrows and enter button in the middle of remote instead closer to the bottom where its easier to hit a wrong button.Havent tried out the You Tube app yet but Im looking forward to watching Internet videos on my tv. The curve doesnt make any sense and its hard to see it if youre not looking for it. Bottom line: I think it would be tough to find a more bang for your buck blu-ray player and I couldnt be happier with it. UPDATE: As of today August 29th, 2017 it stopped working: all of it. No connecting or streaming of anything or even playing of a simple dvd. Nothing. It was great while it worked so if you buy one definitely buy the warranty plan.

This Blu-Ray Player is awesome! Plays every Blu-Ray, unlike my old Sony junk. And it remembers where I left off too. Also, the apps are really good. I use it to watch Amazon and Youtube. Amazing for the cheap price compared to Sony junk. And it starts up really fast. Sony junk takes forever with its stupid firmware updates. You want a Blu-Ray player that works, and is fast and easy to use? Get this Samsung!

This is a great little player in terms of features and function, too bad the quality is so poor. I bought it to replace my last Samsung player which lasted 8 years with perfect performance. With this unit I also replaced my 9 year old Roku XD, which no longer plays in HD as they changed the high definition streaming format. I stream Amazon Prime content, Netflix content, and now YouTube content with this player. The lack of power LED doesnt bother me, I have a Samsung TV so they connect, and when I turn the TV off it automatically turns the player off too. However, the first one I bought was defective, it would make a popping noise and flash static on the screen about once per viewing period, and it would hitch while playing Blu Rays, slowing down video playback for about a second, skipping frames. The problem got worse over about 2 weeks until it was popping constantly, then it started hanging up between Netflix shows with just a black screen that would not reset without unplugging the unit. One day it started popping every 2-3 minutes, with the black screen happening between each video, where I was unplugging it multiple times a night, and thats when I decided to return it. Amazon of course treated me fantastic and replaced it immediately, but the new one is already showing signs of the same quality problems. It has locked up in Netflix once, and started actually pausing for a half second several times during a single Blu Ray playback. I can live with these glitches if they only happen once in a while but if they increase in frequency Ill edit my review to 1 star and be forced to buy a different player. Edited 10/19/16 - The second unit failed with the same symptoms as the first, they just took longer to show up. Now it pops and flashes static multiple times during a movie. Buying another brand and keeping this as a backup in case quality like this is a sign of the times.

Bought this through Amazons warehouse deals, a used, as-new product. The player and the remote arrived just fine, without any problem just in time for Thanksgiving movie marathons. The setup is a breeze, there is almost nothing to setup, except the network information for the apps. The player does have a not-so-slick construction, with the buttons appearing like hand-painted, but then it isnt exactly a top-of-the line product. The setup menu may seem overwhelming at first, though. I have a Samsung Smart TV, hence almost all the apps that are on the player are also there on the TV. This player can connect to the network only through a wired connection, which is a bummer since my wired modem is plugged in another room. A basic, yet important drawback is that there are no light indicators to indicate whether the player is playing or on stand-by or it has a disc inside or not, which unnecessarily doubles our efforts. Overall, it is a good buy as a basic Blu-ray disc player and if placed close to your wired modem, it is good for all those streaming apps available.

First off I have had many Samsung components that have given me fantastic service and this was my reason for purchase of this Blue-ray player to install in my motor coach. So, as a manufacturer of electronic components, Samsung has historically been great for me, no complaints until now. We seldom watch DVD movies in our coach in favor of satellite TV, but when I cant get satellite reception we might watch a movie. Ive owned this player for 15 months and used it to watch a movie maybe a half a dozen times and it will no longer work. Most of its time under my ownership has just been sitting there. I am very disappointed in the quality of this Samsung player, it does not represent their usual high quality components, but it is out of warranty now and cannot be returned.

Bought this for my mother-in-law for Christmas 2017 and she loves it! Works as a DVD player should! She is using it for strictly DVDs no internet connected or Blu-Ray disc and she loves it! DVDs look great on it!

Inexpensive and functional Blu-Ray player with hardline network connectivity. I like the built-in Netflix and YouTube apps and the simplistic user interface. My biggest complaint are the 2 buttons on the front of the unit: Power and Open Tray. These dont seem to work at times and I usually resort to using the remote to turn on/off the unit and open/close the tray. Otherwise, it works and has been working for over 2 years now.

Not only can I use this to play blu- rays but I am also able to watch netflix, hulu, amazon, and youtube. I can add other Opera TV apps, but havent had to add any others yet. The player comes with a separate remote which makes it easy to switch between cable and the other services. The player is very small and lightweight. The version I purchased is not wi-fi capable but thats ok for what I needed. The only weird thing is that theres no way to tell if the unit is on or off - no light or anything. Ive gotten used to it, so its not a big deal. I highly recommend this if youre looking for a device to play DVDs and more!

This is a piece of JUNK! The DVD player does not turn on anymore (we have only used it 3 time since the purchase). Additionally, it will not open to retrieve the DVD it has "eaten". Samsung refuses to provide a replacement DVD player and states their warranty is to only fix it (after you send it to them and it sits in their warranty department for WEEKS before being even looked at. DO NOT PURCHASE!
