I set this printer up today (December 22, 2015), so far I am impressed with everything about it. It was was plug and play. You might want to know that a USB cable is not included. I had a few on hand from other long gone products so it was not an issue for me. The printer also has an ethernet port if you want to connect that way. I am a bit of a dinosaur and had been using an HP Laserjet 4 I purchased well over 10 years ago which did its duty well but sadly decided to retire without giving me any notice. Luckily Amazon had this shiny new replacement at my doorstep in two days an I am pleased to say I am printing away again. The first page I printed jumped out of the feed tray and into the output bin so quick I missed it. I thought the printer was just warming up, but low and behold the document was done and the printer was waiting on me to give it some more. The printer looks good, has a small footprint and is quiet. I hope this new printer has the longevity my last HP printer did, so far so good though. If not, you can bet Ill be back with an update. I am not one to write a lot of product reviews so I hope this helps if your having trouble picking a printer.

This is my forth hp laserjet printer, and by far the lightest and smallest (I bought my first laserjet model II, in 1990, and it cost $2000!) It replaces an hp 2055dn, which unfortunately had started smearing pages, probably due to a bad fuser unit. Unfortunately, it is cheaper to upgrade than face the expense and uncertainty of fixing the old one (fuser unit costs $110-190!). This new unit performs well. I set it up to be "IT Managed", so it wont auto-update (a.k.a auto-break) its software over the internet. I set the IP address manually to match the old printer, and then just started printing. I didnt have to change any print drivers on our macs. I have printed single sided and duplex using print dialog settings with no problem, and have tested OSX 10.6 (snow leopard) and OSX 10.8 (mt. lion). Once it is on the network, you manage it via its built-in web interface, just like the older models. It has lots and lots of options, but I just set the IP address. (You set the management mode from the control panel when it first boots up). One nice surprise is that this one handles legal-size paper; the old 2055dn did not. Very fast! Finishes printing short jobs before I can walk over there. Mostly use this printer for dumping documentation, and so speed is important. It comes with the basic toner cartridge, which I believe is good for about 3,000 pages. One annoyance, as others have noted, is the flashing beacon when it is in sleep mode. It is a bright white light, and flashes like a traffic signal. You can see it from outside my house at night! It could even help burglars find the loot in the dead of night, so good job HP designers! Solved for now by covering the bright LED in the switch with sticky notes. I dont advise using electrical tape, because the adhesive might eventually impact the operation of the switch. I guess you could lean a clipboard in front of it, or maybe paint over it, or get creative with stickers. Other than this human factor design error, happy to have a lighter, faster, more capable, inexpensive, plug replacement printer, especially with the new school year coming up. :)

Its an HP, what more do I need to say? I have never owned an HP printer that was difficult to setup or use. This is no exception. Took less than 5 minutes to get this printer up and running on not only my desktop, but my iPhone. This thing is packed with neat features like the ability to print to it by sending it an email. Well thats just neat. Yes, this only prints in black in white, but for work or school docs this is perfect. The machine prints quickly and clearly. I replaced an HP laser jet 1160 that I bought in college in 2004 with this guy, not because the laser jet stopped working, but because Im trying to move into todays tech age. There have been too many times that I was laying in bed working on something on my iPad or iPhone and wanted to print it out and couldnt with my old printer. Well now I can. I also dont have room on my desk for a printer and I dont want ethernet or USB cords to run across the house just to get my printer on the network. Glad I trusted my gut and not some of these reviews. Get one and enjoy trouble free printing. Networking doesnt need to be a pain in the neck. Im running Mac OS 10.12.1 (Sierra) iPhone 7

Dont be like me and read all the negative reviews first when trying to figure out what printer to buy. After fretting for over a month... I pulled the trigger on this one. I am very pleased I did. For my home office it has worked flawlessly. Small foot print, works well with both 24# paper & 20# book card stock.

Tried all day to get this printer to work. It wouldnt connect with the USB connection, nor would it work with the wireless connection. The supplied CD went half-way, but would not install the driver or configuration files. Went to HP on the Internet and this printer didnt have a download driver for use with Windows 10. I bought it because years ago my first laser printer was an HP and it worked well for years. This one didnt even get to first base. Packed it up; and sent it back. My Canon Pro 100 is a jewel, so now I will try a Canon laser and see if it will work.

This printer was a replacement for a HP 5P printer that served me well for over 15 years. It looked like it was a good fit for my limited desk space and had some nice features so I tried to find a good review. They were few and far between and most people using them had complained when it was set up as a wireless printer but I intended to hook it up with a network cable directly to my wireless router. Finally I decided I definitely needed to replace the broken 5P, so I decided to take a plunge. That was nearly two months ago and so far I havent regretted my decision. The pros: I find it very fast; Setup was a piece of cake; it prints both sided to save paper when theres multiple pages to print; plenty of space for paper and easy to manually feed; I have several printers and I do not believe theres a cheaper way to print a page when all costs are calculated; I can access it from my desktop, my lap top, my upstairs computer and my smart phone. Cons: (which so far havent bother me) It is a bit noisy when printing but quiets down quickly after printing; cartridges are a bit more per page than my old 5P. If this printer lasts even half as long as my 5P, Ill think it was a good deal.

It is fast, it duplexes fast, it prints beautifully, it works wirelessly well. Basically, it does exactly what it claims to do. Sure, you have to pick and choose which components of the HP software to install so you dont get all their junk, just the PCL6 driver, and sure you have to tell the software on every separate computer install not to set up web printing (thanks, I dont want to ever send my documents to HP on their way to my printer), but those are small annoyances. The printer works, and the other stuff is easily overridden. It has a nice small footprint, it is silent when not printing. Good choice.

I bought this printer to replace an old HP 2100TN printer that I bought around 13-14 years ago. I know people have had mixed experienced with HP these days, reading through the comments for this printer proved no different. Some good, some bad. But HP has always been good to me, so we decided to give this one a try. First impressions: Much smaller form factor than I anticipated. Compared to our old beast this one if much more efficiently sized. My wife could easily pick this up if needed, the old printer, not a chance in hell. I have this printer setup using a wired connection, setting the IP information was straight forward with the LCD display. Update: I really enjoy being able to print to this printer directly from my iPhone. I never thought I would use this functionality but Ive had several PDFs and emails that I printed directly. Saved me some time. I would recommend downloading the latest firmware from HP and updating. I believe you can do this from the printers web interface, I chose to do it directly from HP and running the installer from my PC. I had no problems installing the printer from PC or MAC. Being able to print on both sides of the paper is something I am finding myself using more than I ever thought. So far I had not had any jams or other issues. I would definitely recommend.

This is a nice little printer. Small footprint, fast time-to-first-page, duplexes, excellent print quality. But it disappoints. Users were complaining it would go to sleep and they would manually have to turn the printer on or reboot their computer to print. Turns out when the printer is connected via USB (which it was) it will go to sleep and power down the USB port, making the printer unreachable. This is a non-changeable setting, you are stuck with it. The solution was to communicate with the printer using Ethernet. In our situation this required adding a small switch under the desk to accommodate an extra patch cable. Another expense and another energy user.

Here is my story about dealing with HP customer service over the replacement of their sub-par quality product. I am on my third printer from my original purchase. The original printer broke after a few months of use by a single user. The first printer was replaced with a refurbished one. The refurbished one broke as well in less than 6 months (again a single user with 3,000 sheets through the device) resulting in a customer service ordeal. In the hour and a half it took to get a replacement we were told that the refurbished printer was no longer under warranty even though it was a defective refurbished model. After refuting the claim that HP should not be on the hook for a replacement, the customer service rep informed us that the serial number of the defective refurbished printer provided belonged to the first printer insinuating that we never returned the first printer from the original claim. I denied that being the case and the rep continued to explain to me that their system is never wrong and if they say the serial number of the printer I was calling about belonged to one they replaced I must not be correct in my statements and therefore had to have broken the terms of the original deal to send back the first damaged printer for a replacement. Then I found the confirmation from my first service call confirming that I did send the printer back and the serial number I was giving them did belong to the replacement that I was calling about (contrary to the infallible HP customer service information system). At that point the customer service rep back-peddled and without admitting fault or apologizing he told us that he was going to make some exceptions that he does not usually make and do us the "favor" of replacing our printer even though he was not supposed to. The only way I can interpret his actions on behalf of HP is that HP is not sincere in its efforts to help a customer with a defective unit and was not willing to stand by its products. There were multiple narratives used by the HP rep that either denied liability for replacement or accusations of me trying to scam HP out of a new printer. His actions can only be understood as an attempt to make us give up, get off the phone, and live with the defective printer or replace it on my own at my own expense. This is not my first run in with HP customer service. Another printer of mine had similar issues outside of this claim and I was not taken care of resulting in me buying another printer and paper tray base attachment at my own expense. I gave HP the benefit of the doubt in that situation and did not hold them accountable for my poor experience. I will not be making that mistake again. My organization has 7 HP laser printers. I will never buy another HP product. As the products I have begin to degrade I will phase them out and replace them with a brand of better quality and customer service. If you choose to purchase this printer or any other HP product I hope you dont get a lemon because getting a replacement from them after you already gave them your money is far from a pain free process.
