Nice feature set. I am disappointed that this printer has so many paper jams. It is a lot slower printing than the 3-year old HP that Im replacing. UPDATE: I received an email from Epson asking me to call them, which I did. The person I talked to was very helpful and sent me a replacement printer via FedEx overnight. So far the replacement printer seems to be working as it should. UPDATE: 9/17/17 - Unfortunately, this printer is very, very touchy when trying to print 2-sided. The replacement printer Epson sent me still jams a lot. UPDATE: 12/1/2017- Im on my third printer. Epson was very good about sending replacements. - This third printer doesnt jam very often. - Very touchy printing long documents. It will print a few pages then quit printing, thinking it is done. - Prints random colored stripes across pages. See photos. - When done updating its software the printer will print random stuff using tray 1. This is where I had the envelopes so the first time that happened I ended up with all the envelopes that were in tray 1 being unusable. Ill be getting rid of this printer. It causes me too much angst.

So disappointed Im leaving a bad review, but hoping this is something Epsom can work on for their future products. Ive been buying HP printers my entire life & after the last few years Ive been wanting to switch. Though I can say many positive things about HP printers, Im convinced they are the worst company in the world due to their ink cartridge monopoly & customer service. NO ONE has been wanting to switch more than me! So I was super excited to order my Epson printer! ISSUE #1 ENVELOPE TRAYS: I bought this particular printer because I read a review that mentions there is 2 trays for printing envelopes, letters, etc. (I print about 1000 envelopes a week so this was an awesome feature). Well, this is NOT true. I was disappointed to find that the 2 trays are for letters. Only ONE tray is for envelopes. I guess its a little annoying. How hard is it 2 make both trays capable of printing envelopes? ISSUE #2 PAPER JAMS: I used it for 24 hours & it there were paper jams like no other. I thought maybe I received a bad printer, but my hubby read that many people complain about how this jams constantly. Using envelopes was a nightmare. Regular paper jammed. I wasnt even trying to print anything crazy. I was going about my normal day, printing a couple sheets here & there before I even started with the envelopes. I couldnt believe how many paper jams I had. ISSUE #1 GRABS MORE THAN ONE SHEET AT A TIME: Im convinced this is why there are so many paper jams. The printer grabs more than 1 sheet at a time. Years ago I had a printer that kept jamming, so I switched to higher quality paper & shipping labels.....This completely solved the problem. So I know the paper Im using isnt cheap by any means. But this printers sensor is constantly grabbing more than it should. If it doesnt jam, then it prints on 4 sheets of paper spread out as if it were 1 sheet. In 24 hrs I threw out about 15 sheets because it printers over several sheets instead of one sheet. Sometimes I got lucky & it would grab 5 sheets but only print on the top sheet (as opposed printing over all 5) but then I had to reload all the other sheets. This happened constantly. After this continued happening, I had to print my sheets by putting 1 label or sheet of paper at a time, all because I didnt trust the sensor to grab only ONE. The positive thing I can say about this is that there was an error (...found out it was my fault). I called Epson & got through to a friendly customer service rep right away. I appreciated that, because HP is a nightmare w customer service. I was actually shocked how I got through so quickly & they werent hounding me w questions to verify I was under warranty. They just helped. I saw an obvious difference there. I also thought the WiFi/set up was easy. And I also love that this company is not a crazy ink controlling company & I hope they never are! So maybe I dont recommend this printer what so ever. Most people who buy a printer like this are generally people who print a lot...this will just cause you a headache. However....Im not against trying Epson again. And Im totally rooting for them to turn it around & make a rockstar of a printer that everyone will love & buy. Ive been joking that HP is the bad bf that you dont want to leave bc you are comfortable. After this bad experience with this printer I started considering just going back to HP but I kept saying..."No no no. This is just a bad date! Stay strong! Your perfect printer is out there!!" Haha. So if anyone who would like to message me & help me find one Id greatly appreciate it. In the meantime I will keep trying & hope that my review will help you!

Ill be honest, I dont trust printer companies, and, in general, I strongly prefer laser printers over ink for most uses. But I was excited to try this printer out, especially as it seems to be geared toward an office environment. My family will use it at home, but office stuff tends to be more robust. Plus it says right on the box that its competing with color laser printers, so that interested me. Setup (Wireless from an Mac): The setup on this printer was extremely fast! I had the whole thing up and running in under 10 minutes, all done wirelessly from my iMac. Printing: Holy cuss! -- this is the fasted printer I have ever used! I clicked print on the first print job (a page of text with some color), and from click to complete was a total of maybe 5 seconds! Next, I tried a full-page color photo (regular, not photo settings) and it came out in maybe 10 seconds! I tell you, I was waiting for the sonic boom! Scanning: It is awesome that the scanning can be done wirelessly. Like the printing, the scan is crazy fast, and produces a great image! Printing from an iPhone: What made me the most happy about printing to the Epson from my phone is that I didnt have to download an app or do any setup. Once the printer was on my wireless network from the original setup, my phone saw it, and with just three taps it was printing. The printer does have to be powered on for your phone to see it, but ... it also has to be powered on to print, so there you go. The one drawback here is that when printing a photo from my phone, I didnt seem to have any options to resize to fit the page, or any page or sizing option for that matter. That said, I dont really want to print pictures from my phone so, its no big deal for me. Other things: I love that, with both paper trays full, the printer can hold a whole ream. Hallelujah! Our last Epson could barely hold enough sheets to print my long-winded Amazon reviews! I also love the touch screen interface. Much easier to use and more responsive than previous Epson printers. Why Im not doing a victory dance: Ive been happy with other ink jets at the start and then ended up a bitter grump monster about them. I do think Epson printers give the best color results of all brands, but Im still leery of ink printers. They break down a lot, constantly need head cleanings and alignment, and I regularly hear my wife restraining the more colorful side of her vocabulary while dealing with them. I am also against the ink/toner scam of printer companies -- programming their cartridges to tell the printer its out of ink when its not. Im not sure if its better or worse with this printer, but my experience with all printer companies leads me to believe it will be the same. Overall: This is a lighting-fast, easy setup, easy to use all-in-one that I hope will be more robust and have a longer life than other printers. What Im hoping for is more color on the pages than in my language describing it!

Im pretty much done with Epson printers. I have had numerous WF-4630 printers (numerous because they kept breaking and had to be replaced) and next I tried this "upgrade" to a WF-4740. It sometimes prints fine, but usually it doesnt and the frustration just isnt worth it. For starters, every Epson WF-# printer I have ever owned prints some lines crooked, so that they look like you formatted them with italics. But you didnt, and they shouldnt, and yet they do. This printer is no different. Random lines will be slanted / italics for no reason. Thats fine for drafts and stuff you dont really care about but for official documents, forms, envelopes, whatever, its a problem. Second issue is you cant easily (and by that I mean "almost cant at all") print Avery labels and business card stock. Epson in their infinite wisdom decided not to put a manual document feeder on this printer, so that if you want to print labels or business card stock, it has to go through the complete loop up into the printer and around the roller, something that is avoided with manual feed. Result? Well, you can guess: paper jams 90% of the time. I just tried printing some business cards to Avery business card stock, have all the print settings correct, and when I hit "Print", almost every time the printer will feed through several pages of stock and then say the printer is jammed and I need to remove the back cover. No, I dont need to remove the back cover because theres nothing there. So fine, I remove the back cover, and guess what: nothings there. Its just too frustrating to work with these printers. Im going with a completely different brand next time.

I was given this printer as a Christmas gift. In the 3 months I have used this printer, I have had to call Tech Support at Epson 3 times. This last time, it was determined that there is a hardware issue that is covered by the warranty. However, in order to get a replacement, I have to give the customer service people my credit card number over the phone for them to put a hold on and then they will send a new printer. If I choose not to give my credit card number, I have to purchase materials to box it up and return (they will pay just the shipping part) it to them. When they get it, then they will send a replacement. The printer is very large and heavy and i am disabled, so having to pick this printer up and get it boxed up is a hassle. I will be without a printer for up to 2 weeks. In addition to all of this, you have to buy a the ink cartridges as a set, which cost me $139. The ink runs out quickly because even if you are printing in black, it draws from all colors to make up that black ink. I am thoroughly disgusted with the product and the customer service at Epson. I will never purchase a product from Epson again.

I should have heeded the warnings about this printer, but it seemed like such a deal. Bought one for my husband and me. Had to send mine back after two weeks, because it suddenly stopped working. Four days after I got a new one, it simply wouldnt print. I kept having to re-download drivers, turn it on and off. It would work for two days, then not respond, on and on like that. Thought I just had a lemon, but the EXACT same problems happened with my husbands Epson after almost two weeks to the day. Save yourself lots of aggravation, and find another printer.

We had previously purchased the Epson WF 4640 back in May of 2014 and it was a bigger machine than this new WF 4740. Both seem similar and with the one digit number change I figured it was just an updated version of the old one. Well, it is extremely fast (like the old machine) however the difference lies in the ink cartridge size from what I can see. The older model, the 4640 used huge plastic tanks that slid in the front and just clicked in place. Not terribly expensive to replace the color you need however if you were replacing a whole set with the black, it could get a little costly. The new model, the 4740 has smaller sized cartridges similar in size to the competitors printers on the market. Not sure if they hold as much ink as they are much smaller but so far they are good. Setup on this machine was very quick and Epson respects the right that some people out there dont own a Windows computer and has all the updates easily downloadable online for the newest version of an Apple computer. Printing on this machine might just be a little quicker than the older version machine. The price is much less as we purchased on Amazon for $179 and our old Epson was $249. Our old Epson did die on us and we used the Square Trade warranty we purchased on Amazon. They were great about replacing the printer and gave us our full purchase price back on the old machine. Love this new printer. Text is very sharp, colors are very good. Pictures even on photo paper are just okay, not up to par with some of the other brands out there like Canon. However, if you are going to print pictures a lot, get a photo printer dedicated just for them.

Lasted 6 weeks and 375 pages before running out of ink, I had the 4630 before this and it lasted much longer. They also jacked up the price of individual ink cartridges so I have to buy all four to get a decent deal.Id bought four epsons in a row for various businesses, but Im out of Epson now.

In 28 years of owning printers, this has got to be the worst! For starters, the scanner software is terrible - though I am fairly tech savvy, and my partner is a software engineer, neither one of us has been able to get the scanner to work with the interface at the scanner. Instead, I have to place the document, then walk back to my PC and use the PC software (which is also unreasonably cumbersome) and start the scan from there. But I soon found that the printer is much worse than this - every few days I get an error message, about the print head or other issues, all of them requiring that I run the maintenance on the printer, If I dont, then the page will print with wide faded horizontal stripes. Invariably the maintenance requires a new test page to be printed, sucking up even more ink. The ink on the printer ran out incredibly fast, too, and it turned out that the replacement ink costs and arm and a leg. Add insult to injury, any time that there is less than 15-20 pages of paper in the printer, it will spit out many of them in the printing of just one page, and somehow it manages to print just a tiny bit of the printed page on all the bunched up pages... so now its also wasted paper. Finally, the software is terrible. Any time I print a jpg picture, I have to assure the printer that I want to use the letter size paper that is in the tray. I have suffered through this now for many months and hoped I would somehow catch the pattern of problems and be able to avoid them. But Im giving up. Ill buy another printer, and its not going to be one from Epson.

I am a bit surprised at the quantity of one-star reviews. I guess there must be some quality control problems, because this is the fastest duplexing, great print quality printer Ive ever had or used.. and Ive printed to lots. Ive been using for 6 months with zero issues. I am trading out my reliable 8600 officeJet pro plus with another one of these at my office.
