If possible, Id give zero stars. Printer displayed "printer unable 02" after 6 pages. Called Brother "tech support", an oxymoron, and they were unable to solve the problem. My options were to take it to a service center, with no compensation for my troubles, or a tech would bring a replacement but they needed my credit card for this option. "You wont be charged". Why, then, would you possibly need a credit card? Returning to Amazon. Caveat emptor: buyer beware.

Im on my second one in less than a year. The first was great for 6 months, then its document counter went haywire, and it stopped working entirely. Brother replaced it with a refurb, which meant a many telephone calls, a great deal of nuisance and installing and packing and shipping for me--all time out of my business & weeks with no printer. They told me I could install my nearly full toner cartridges from machine 1 into machine 2. Lie. Machine 2 would not "read" them. The refurb is not two months old and NOW it jitters when printing standard Avery labels. It prints a black line and grey background on everything (after I went through the nuisance of cleaning each drum), and the print varies in darkness one every page (dramatically), and it will not play nice with Adobe pdfs.

For the most part, I really like this printer. Setup was pretty easy. They walk you through it quite nicely. The ink that came with the printer has lasted for quite a while. Im a teacher, and I mostly print game boards, game cards, and playing pieces that require a large amount of ink per page. Im still using the original set of ink cartridges. The print quality and color are both very good. There were two issues that I noticed. The first one may or may not be the printers fault. Most documents print just fine, but occasionally there will be a document that simply wont print if I select a range of pages. If I want it to print, I need to print the current page one at a time until it is finished. I have tried, but I am unable to solve this. Again, it may or may not be a printer issue. It could be a computer issue. The second issue that I have is that sometimes the ink will not adhere to the paper. Once the page prints, you can see that the ink didnt adhere, and you can rub it off with your finger. At first I thought it was because I forgot to select the correct thickness of my paper. However, it continues to happen even when I change the setting to the correct thickness. I would estimate that it happens once out of every 25 pages or so. Overall, this is a good printer for the price, and I would recommend it to others.

I have only had this printer a month but it is fantastic and I would not hesitate to buy it again. I have had many printers over the years from inkjets to laser printers to mult-function printers. My last printer was a multi function printer from Brother that is about 7 years old. I was looking to upgrade to a color laser printer and since my old Brother printer has been such a work horse I decided to stay loyal to the brand. Positives are: color is amazing and easily as good as the $5k machine we have at work. Scans are quick and very high quality as well as the copies. Color touch screen menu system was a very big upside surprise given how sensitive and intuitive it is. The big selling point for me is the wireless capability. The machine is large as it should be but now I just hide it in a closet. Synchronizing it to my wireless network was easy and took about 20 seconds with the touchscreen keyboard. I also love the Brother software that comes with it. Works with all my PCs and Macs perfectly.

The printer has a number of small issues it shouldnt for the price but my anger comes from the fact that the ink supplied with the printer might last you 100 color prints. Maybe 100. Then its time to get back on Amazon open your wallet and spend 2/3rds of the price of a new printer on ink less than a week after starting to use the stupid thing. Dont buy this printer.

Could not find my wireless network 98% of the time even though my router sits right next to it. And even in the very few occasions it could, and I connected, the print jobs I send to it from my PC, from within the same network, would not print although the print jobs are listed in my PC print job tray as sent to the printer. I could not find any useful way on the makers site to alert them to the issue. I left a review on their site detailing this issue and no-one from their establishment responded. Printer has been needlessly taking up space in my apartment ever since I bought it. Buy a different printer instead of this one perhaps from this maker. However, I prefer that you buy from a different maker. This maker leaves no way to reach them and does not care to respond to constructive reviews on their site. They are highly unlikely to respond to this one either.

WARNING: If you have a multi-band wifi network (2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz) and the SSID is named the same. Then this printer will fail to wake up to print for you. I am using the Eero devices for my network. It names each of the 3 bands the same in order to make for a better mesh networking experience. The printer only works with 2.4 Ghz and having an SSID on a different band causes it to be confused and not retain its IP address when going to sleep. I liked everything else about this printer. I really wanted to keep it, but the above problem was a deal breaker for me.

It was not abundantly clear to me when buying this printer that it doesnt auto duplex (something I think any printer in the $300+ price range should ALWAYS have). That said, manual double sided printing WOULD be fine if it were easy to do. The printer doesnt have an easy diagram on its color screen to show you what to do so you have to constantly run back and forth from your computer to the printer trying to remember the diagram your computer showed. Once you finally figure out how to get it to print double sided in the correct orientation, youll be disappointed to learn you can only do this, one page at a time. If you want to print 20 copies of a brochure, double sided, you would have to print all of them from tray 1 on one side, then stand there feeding each page, one by one, into the manual page feeder to print the other side. OR youd have to put EXACTLY 20 pieces of paper into tray 1, so that it runs out of paper from tray 1 or else it will just print 20 copies of the first page and 20 copies of the second page without pausing for you to reload the printer. Its infuriating.

as of 7/17/15 seems that the heat generated by the printer is actually melting the drum set - so now another several hundred dollars to replace those.....this thing was an expensive hunk of junk. it would be cheaper to just buy another printer which is exactly what I may do. as of 6/11/15 Im updating my review and lowering my 2 star review to a one star. I noticed I was going through color cartridges very quickly even though I rarely print in color these days because of the poor quality and after some testing and close monitoring I have realized that if you dont have your settings on b&w the printer will use a mix of black and colored ink to print everything! a total waste of money! - be careful with your settings on this printer! original review: thought Id try a laser printer, but Im not loving this one... I print out 50 -75 sheets of paper each day and this is my experience over about 4 months. I go through expensive ink just about as often as I did with my other printers and ink is oddly hard to find. Ive had several bad experiences buying ink - receiving empty cartridges from shady sellers here on Amazon. The tray capacity for print out is only about 25 sheets so if your not there to catch it, it will over flow, spurt out sheets and jam. It can easily overheat after about 25 sheets and stop - it start again...but its unnerving when youre trying to work. I miss being able to print on both sides of a sheet. Its huge and heavy and the set up for fax is tricky. color print outs are not particularly clear or crisp - very muddy. if it last longer than my old epsons - which I normally go through about once every year to year and a half then that will be the only advantage, but for the price difference the perks of the ink jets will make me go back.

After my experience with Brothers technical support I will never be using a product from this company again, nor will there be a single brother product purchased in any office or home I am working in. Purchased this in April 2015, it is now January 2017. Ive been having problems with the print quality(it would not print a complete page despite all toners being full. Prints faded about a third of the way and image quality deteriorated as the page progressed) since July or so of 2016. I was already out of warranty, and the scanner worked fine, so I made to until today when the scanner was acting up. The printer seems to dry up by the end of every page i attempt to print. Prints start fine, and then slowly fade to faint or nonexistant versions of the original file or document. At other times I would receive the error message "One or more toner cartridges not detected, please reset all toner cartridges" over and over again despite following the instructions to a T on how to reset the cartridges. I called technical support and they told me they were sorry but there was "nothing they could do" and that any cost of repair would fall on me(this was after their first adamant suggestion that I buy MORE NEW TONER CARTRIDGES EVEN THOUGH MINE ARE FULL IN ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM). As for the scanner issue, the customer service rep said he could try to help me but he felt like itd be wasting both of our time because according to the diagnostics everything should be working fine. As they have left me little recourse, all I can say is to hell with Brother. If your machine reports that everything is okay, and the consumer has done nothing but use the machine as it is intended to be used(Ive used this machine lightly. It is at home, not at my office), and the machine does not work as promised and your first and second response are "buy more toner" and "pay to have it repaired" then you have lost my business forever. No desire to support a company who doesnt give a rats ass about you as soon as they have your money. To boot their customer service rep was fairly unpleasant. Something that was partially my fault but I couldnt hold my tongue about the "buy more toner" thing when my toner is full.
