Pros: Easy to setup; toner lasts a long time; compact model; when it prints, the quality is excellent. Cons: Lots of error messages halt printing (like having a tray full of paper and the printer insisting it’s out of paper); cannot reset printer after an error message — have to turn off/unplug; nonexistent explanation(s) for error messages (must Google the problem for solutions); has difficulty printing on glossy paper (mangles the paper half the time); paper jams can take days to clear (no exaggeration). When this prints, its a decent piece of hardware. But when it wont print -- which is more often than not -- you will wish you had bought a different printer. For years I have loved the Brother brand, but this POS is the worst thing to ever come off their assembly line. Paper jams are common with printers, but when this has a paper jam, these are the steps you need to take to clear it: 1. Clear the jam. 2. Read error message stating paper is still jammed. 3. Search for additional paper jams. When you find none, turn printer off and then back on again. 4. Read error message stating paper is still jammed. 5. Remove back panel searching for nonexistent jammed paper. Cancel job on both printer and your computer. 6. Read error message stating paper is still jammed. Et cetera. Dont buy this printer. Its beyond frustrating.

Ive owned this printer for 7 months and hate it with a passion. I primarily use this printer to print shipping labels and order details for my eBay/Amazon/Shopify home business. I have thrown away so many misprinted labels that its just costing me to much money to keep it in operation. Last week every single paper started jam up unless I opened the back panel. Nothing I have tried has been able to make it stop jamming. I googled the problem and its a know issue. There is an online tutorial that shows you how to take it apart to fix the underlying issue. I cutting my losses and replacing this with something else.

If you are buying this to print wirelessly, dont bother. I have an Apple iMac and Apple MacBook. With BOTH, I have downloaded all current drivers available from Brothers site as well as updated the firmware. The issue is that the printer goes into sleep mode and will NOT wake when you send a document, which is, amazingly, the POINT of wireless printing. If the printer is "awake", the prints are lovely, fast, and I bet if I was connected to the printer by Ethernet or print cable it would work fine, but I bought it SPECIFICALLY so I DID NOT have to sit next to the machine. I have looked up the issue on the Internet and it goes back AT LEAST a decade. I am not sure WHY this is still an issue, but it is. And it sucks.

Update: I have now had to replace all the toner that came in the machine, but I’m pleased as to how much I got out of them! The black went first about two weeks ago, and now I just had to buy the three colors. I’ve been through roughly 3000 prints now! I just got this printer today and I put it to the test! Setup was very easy, took maybe 15 minutes but that’s mostly because my internet is super slow. I’ve printed about 300 pages today and it is so fast!! My old HP Envy 4500 claimed to print 17ppm and this one prints 19ppm. Well I printed 48 pages on this in the same time I would have printed maybe 4-5 pages on the HP! So far it hasn’t lost WiFi connection at all and it has gone into deep sleep many times throughout the day with no problem waking up. I’ve printed from both my computer and iPhone with no problems at all. So far I am loving this printer!!! I did notice I’m the only one that has left a review for the new model so maybe they have fixed all the issues the older model was having? Thus far I have to admit that this is by far the best printer I’ve ever had! No paper jams, fast printing, and as far as quality- it’s better than the old printer but I have so far only printed out curriculum materials for school. If your on the fence I’d say get it!! It’s now a week later and I’m running low on black toner after printing close to 2000 pages! Considering the yield is 1400 pages on the toner it came with and it’s still printing that’s awesome! I did order another black but won’t replace it until it’s completely empty.

This printer is 4’ away from the router, so WPS direct connection was a key feature in my purchase. However, the printer suffers frequent WiFi disconnects, each time requiring deletion of the printer driver, reinstallation of a new printer driver, and configuration of the WiFi. Oftentimes (but not always) the printer refuses to connect via WPS direct connect. I’m sure that if asked Brother would blame the router. I have given up with WiFi and connected a USB cable, which is much faster anyway.

First, I was surprised at how heavy this printer is, if you are going to waste your money on this make sure you have a sturdy enough printer stand. Also, dont plan on printing on anything heavier than standard copy/printer paper.. I bought this specifically because it was a Brother product and I have been very happy with the all-in-one B/W laser printer and I need something that could print 24 lb paper (not heavy card stock). and the description said that it could be done through the manual tray. It cannot. If by some chance, you can get it to go through, it cannot run more than 1 copy. I put three sheets in and it couldnt handle it. When it did go thought, it was crooked every time and yes, I made sure the guides were adjusted properly. I had to stand next to the printer with my hand nudging the paper through and hold my breath that it didnt jam, which it usually did. I wasted 20 sheets of a very expensive paper just to get 4 useable copies, only one of which was straight. I wish there was an option for "less than 0" stars. So completely disappointed. Cant even return it because it is so heavy I cannot repackage it. Huge waste of money, cannot emphasize it enough.

Not as plug and play as I had hoped but nothing Im not used to from other printers over the years. I really like the speed. It takes a few seconds to transmit to the printer wirelessly but once the job is loaded in memory it flies through the printing. The prints look professional but not crisp if that makes sense. Maybe playing with the settings will help. I didnt need photo like prints but I needed to update my monocrome brother printer to color and this fits the bill. The size was a bit of a shock. Its larger than I expected. Most of the size is depth and height. Side to side is about what I expected. It may be too large for some homeowners desks. I was fortunate to have a printer stand area already so it didnt take up desk space. If this printers toner has the longevity of our prior model it will last us years at the rate we print and wont dry out like inkjet models weve tried. So far we are happy with the results. Ill update with any concerns should they appear.

I love the printer itself. I use it at home and purchased it because I like it from using it at work. However, the toner notifications make owning this machine too much of a pain. You get a daily notification of low toner being WAY before you are going to run out. This was true even in an office where I did much more printing. I waiting a while before ordering the toner and did so on June 22. So for over two months now, I tell it every single day that I know I have to get toner. There is no way to tell it I actually have the toner on hand. Every time I print, I get a notification that Im low on toner. Even with that, I might have been able to tolerate this nonsense. But the every 3-4 hours, every single day, having a popup tell me Im low on toner is intrusive, unhelpful, and maddening. Just to shut it up, I changed the toner. There was still toner in the cartridge, but I have had it. There is no easy way to turn this off, although there are myriad complaints about it online. So, in order to not be annoyed by technology, I just wasted a whole bunch of money (toner being the most expensive substance on the planet) and this is unacceptable. I dont really care how good a product is, it is not supposed to be this annoying just to own it.

Its great. Sure there is a high start up cost, but due to my high volume of printing, I have probably already saved 50 dollars that I wouldve spent on a printer cartridge with the hp inkjet printer my parents have in just 1 week. But compared to the hp the lack of scanning and copying capabilities were a tradeoff that I was more than willing to give up. And so for you, it is going to come down to what you need in your office. _____ After using it for a while, I think it is important to be specific. You have to know what you are doing when it comes to this printer. I have had connectivity issues from time to time, but I am still satisifed by the printer. I suppose it is also important to mention, I was aware of these things others mentioned before buying it: no automatic double sided printing. no scanning no copying cost of parts mediocre quality of print. I also know I didnt need to print labels. Because, I only use this printer to print documents to read in color and b/w for academic related work. Its great in that it does its one job really well and cheaply.

Update 8/26/18: I fell in love with this printer even though i had to scan pages in with a different printer before printing it in color on this printer. It worked great for maybe 3 month and now it wont work at all. Deleted the drivers and reinstalled.. still wont print. Hooked it up directly with a USB plug and it wont print. All my computers can print on my other printers just fine except for this one. Will be looking for a different one. Sad it is only a printer... but I do love the quality of printing. I mostly need it to print my file folder games...
