The VIOTEK HA238 is an okay monitor at a reasonable price. Its colors are great, and it is very stylish, but it has its drawbacks. PROS: Its a great budget monitor at a great price. These colors are very vivid, and are beautiful right out of the box. No adjustments necessary! Photography and art alike look beautiful. Its also great to watch movies on! I love the sleek, border-less look of the monitor. It is very contemporary and minimalist, which I can appreciate. I can look at this screen for hours without any eye trouble, and even all day (As I often do). Honestly, I have used this monitor for a long time, and I dont have too many regrets. CONS: As someone who has used this as their primary monitor for about a year, however, there are some things I would like to point out. Im a digital artist and gamer, my experience has been a little less-than-satisfactory in those aspects. The monitor has a 14ms delay, which you wont really notice unless youre playing a game at 60+ FPS. Rhythm games such as osu! will become harder (Especially in mania and taiko) as it might look like multiple beats appear at once, when they really dont. This can be attributed to the slow refreshing. It is not a true 60 fps monitor. If I had known this initially, I likely would have invested in a different monitor. On an older version of the product page, VIOTEK referred to this as, An enhanced cinematic experience. Which, to me, just sounds like instead of addressing and resolving an issue, or just ignoring it entirely (As this is a budget monitor), they instead tried to reword it into sales pitch, as if saying, "Its a feature!". Nice. Thankfully, its not much of an issue when watching films. However, you might notice a very subtle frame drop with presentations that require 60 frames. Its not too noticeable, and you gradually adjust to it. If you are someone who games all day, though, consider getting a 1-4 ms delay monitor (Those are about average, which is why 14 ms is VERY bad for fast reaction gaming). As a digital artist, however, I have to be careful when utilizing colors. As I had stated earlier, the colors on this monitor are beautiful, breath-taking in their saturation. But you have to be aware that this monitor will display colors differently than a traditional monitor in order to achieve this vividness. Therefore I have to use my laptop screen to test the colors. However, they do look quite beautiful when I drag them back to this monitor. I guess I cant complain too much. Even though this monitor is pretty sturdy, I need to address the fact you cant tilt this monitor up or down, just left-to-right. This was never an issue for me as its at a perfect eye level from where I sit. However, for people with tall chairs or short chairs, I wouldnt recommend this. Also, when you lift the monitor up, the bottom stand (Which is in 2 pieces) disconnects unless you hold it in place AND the rest of the monitor at the same time. A bit annoying if youre cleaning your desk, as the monitor is very front-heavy without its bottom stand, leaving you holding a thin metal stick. Sure, a sturdy one, but its still just a stick. The last gripe I have is something very easy to fix. When you plug this monitor in for the first time, it is blindingly bright. Maybe thats just due to my sensitive eyes, but turning it down a ways seems to fix the issue. However, I wasnt expected to go blind from turning a monitor on for the first time. Like I said, though, very easy permanent fix. Just an odd factory setting.
