VIOTEK GN27DW 27-Inch Curved Gaming Monitor, 1440p 144Hz Samsung VA Panel, FreeSync GamePlus FPS/RTS – VESA (White)

I really like curved monitors, and when I was building a new gaming pc, I wanted to have a really nice monitor. This was my first 1440p monitor (which sadly I regret) and I thought it would well suit my build considering that Im using a GTX 1080ti and an i7 8700k. The Free Sync is useless to me since Im team green, but I couldnt find a g-sync monitor with these specs that was affordable. I also never use the speakers in this monitor since I only use headphones. The most disappointing thing was that the panel had 4 dead pixels right after turning it on for the first time. One is dead-white and the others are dead-black. Another thing I hadnt considered was that being a 2K monitor, watching videos on YouTube or Twitch that are uploaded in only 1080p appear to be low quality. (looks like 480p to be honest). I dont think the 1440p display problems (watching videos that look bad and limited to 144fps) are worth the performance gap of rendering in 1080p and video streaming quality. Sure games look a bit better at 2K than at 1080p, but I rather have the extra 40fps rendering 1080p in the end. This is not a bad monitor; the dead pixels are only noticeable if youre super OCD like me--like you really have to look hard to see them. And its a great price for a curved free-sync 27 2K 144hz panel. However, I think I will probably buy a flat screen 27 g-sync 1080p 240hz monitor and use the Viotek as a secondary panel. I hope this helps anyone considering if 2K is worth it and if this monitor is worth it overall. This review is concerning the GN27D 27" 1440p 144hz Samsung VA Panel monitor. First off, the monitor looks absolutely beautiful. The stand looks nice, if fairly simple, and the thin bezel makes the picture really stand out. The contrast for the monitor is good, the viewing angles are large, and the gamma is actually really decent as well... as long as you set the gamma to be 2.4 in the menu. 2.4 aligns the gamma to the PROPER calibration of 2.2... for some reason. There are 2 complaints I have with the picture quality, and one of this is an inherent trait in VA panels regardless. The first is the brightness, while the monitor is bright, it could still be a little brighter, a small range of blacks still get crushed even at max brightness. The other complaint is theres a decent amount of blur created due to the duration it takes for the pixels to change, but this is a quality in all VA monitors and something you should expect. The main complaint I have about the design is getting to *any* of the inputs on the bottom of the monitor is very difficult. Theres little space to fit your hands in there due to a plastic shielding that covers the ports which are about 2" deep into the bottom of the monitor. The final issue I have with the monitor is the fact that whenever the Display Port cable is bumped, the monitor turns off. I thought it was my cable at first, so I bought a new one, which also happened to be thinner, and the problem went away. Later I discovered that the reason it went away was because the thinner cable stopped pressing against my desk which was causing the thicker one to be bumped thus turning the screen off. Edit: After nVidia added FreeSync support to all monitors I have now been able to test out the FreeSync feature of this panel. Its not great. Theres a nauseating strobing effect that occurs when you turn FreeSync on as the backlight flickers to match the adjusting refresh rate or some such. Not quite sure what exactly is causing the flickering, but its really difficult to watch and I had to turn FreeSync back off.
