EDIT: After a month or so of use, I noticed the left half of the screen going dim, all the way from top to bottom. There was a brown patch at the very bottom of the screen. I touched it with my finger, and suddenly the entire half of the screen lit back up. In other words, the individual elements of the screen were coming apart. I practice good airflow and temperature management around my equipment, so its not like it got overheated or something. It simply... came apart. I stuck a thick piece of tape between the plastic casing at the bottom and the actual screen, simulating my finger keeping pressure on it, and lo and behold the screen was back to its bright ugly yellow glory. Like I said in my earlier review, this is a cheap IPS panel and youll never convince me otherwise. Its only good if youve never been exposed to really good professional stuff. I wound up using this monitor to read documents/Google stuff related to what Im doing, and for that its fine, but Id hate to see a game or artwork that someone made solely with this monitor. The colors would be so messed up, there are some displays even calibration cant fix. --- I know the common wisdom is that a monitor should cost around $300, but Ive always felt a monitor is an investment since your eyes are going to be looking at it all the time, so I usually spring for around $1500. For this monitor, I decided to try it even though it is a "cheap" model because its 2018 version, the "UK650" (instead of UL650) was voted #1 monitor of the year on many sites. (My other option was the Samsung QLED, which maxes out its brightness at 250 nits, which is insufficient for my work area. I got this mainly because of the IPS and the nits.) Unfortunately the UL650 has the same pitfalls as many cheap IPS panels: The grays are non-uniform and the white point is a little bit colourful (which it shouldnt be, it should be something that you can convince yourself is actually white). But the biggest nag is definitely that the grays and whites are DIFFERENT colours. If you look at it closely, at neutral default out-of-box settings (custom colour temperature, all colours at 50 points), white has a bit of a pinkish tint, but grays are yellow. They should all be the same colour temperature, but at this price range, monitors are known to do tricks to get as much performance as possible out of cheap subpixel materials. If you have low standards or just dont care, its not a big deal. But if you compare it side by side with a MacBook Pro (for example if youre using this product as a second monitor for your laptop) and go on a site like Amazon, you might notice the gray accents on the Amazon website look yellowish, and the orange "Add to Cart" buttons look rather more yellow than orange. I included a sample photo of the screen with an Adobe panel open and you can see that even though the background is supposed to be white and the boxes are supposed to be gray, there are definitely more yellows in the boxes than in the background. (Sorry for the rainbow trash in the picture, I just did a quick snap with autofocus on.) Again, its usually just a sign of a lower-priced IPS panel and you might not care. But if your house is filled with Macs and its a non-smoking house so your screens arent subtly yellowed over, youre gonna notice the difference. Yes, this screen distorts interfaces wildly, despite all the praise and acclaim.

I needed a high quality monitor for my laptop. After going to an electronics store and looking at 10 monitors side-x-side, this very clearly stood out as the highest quality colors and build quality in the group. Im a developer, so I cant speak to response and games etc but after years of being used the very highest quality MacBook Pro displays, most monitors disappoint. Usually the text isnt high enough quality and it creates frustration and eye-strain ... But this one doesnt. Its gorgeous, it makes my work look better :) Buy it, youll not be disappointed, its worth every penny and more.

Perfect companion for my gaming consoles, if ur a gamer ull love it..even netflix looks great! I connected to my windows laptop and its great with that too..4k,amazing colors, ips panel.(not washed out or dull), hdr kicks in automatically, unique stand. Has some cool HDR modes. This version does not have speakers. (Uk850 has). I have played battlefield 1, forza 7, gran turismo sport, wildlands, gears, all look beautiful and play flawlessly..overall i am very happy and definitely recommend this product!

I bought the Amazon Basics DP-mDP 10ft cable for my early 2015 13" MBPr and this monitor displays 3840x2160 flicker-free and razor sharp. I use this monitor for stock trading and the charts pop. Love the pivot vertical display setting, as it allows me to view CNBC or Bloomberg TV with HDMI-HDMI cable in 3840x2160 30hz on the top screen while viewing my charts in 4K 60hz with the DP-mDP (thunderbolt 2) cable on the bottom screen. When the trading day is done I can watch Netflix full screen flicker free 4K 60 hz or use it for photo editing with an image as sharp as my MBPr display . Brightness, split screens and on-screen adjustments, in every way superior to the Samsung U28E590D monitor that I bought last week and have already returned.

The only reason I didnt give this 5-stars for gaming rating is the response time, wouldnt keep up if you were really into high-fps competitive gaming. Without spending a ton of money though this is a very good option. Everything looks nice and smooth at 60fps/4K. The stand has a lot of adjustment for height and viewing angle, and includes cable routing options to keep your desktop looking neat. My apartment gets a lot of glare in afternoon but the screen handles it very well, and if I turn up the brightness a couple notches I can still see all the detail in dark scenes. Very happy with this upgrade so far. Please note I have never even used the speakers to check them; anyone that buys a monitor or TV based on the built-in speakers is a bit soft in the head IMO

Super high quality stunning beautiful image!!! Outstanding adjustable stand (it fits above (landscape) the display and works with my Surface Pro perfectly). Good speakers (I use a headset and my USB speakers just went into storage). You need to purchase a white 3 foot USB to USB male/male cable for firmware updates and a white Display Port / Mini Display Port cable if you have a Surface Pro. (The LG comes with white cables.) I use 200% scale on the monitor instead of 150% so I can read the mouse type descriptions on my art software tools and sub tools pallets. Make sure the #2 display (LG) is above the #1 display (SP) when configuring for ease of use. Download the latest appropriate LG software (hence the need for a M/M USB cable), my PC/W10 LG Monitor Scree Control Software needed updating. Windows 10 has a problem with keeping the images on the LG when I turn off the SP. When I put the SP to Sleep or Hibernate both devices turn off, however, when I wake the SP up, both machines turn on, everything is saved properly, but I have to move the LG images from the SP back to the LG, where it will stay until I put the SP back to Sleep or Hibernate. It would be a convenience if W10 remembered to automatically put the images back on the LG at restart. If you dont have a second monitor or need to replace the one youve got, get this one. Youll enjoy life better, guaranteed.

I just replaced my 11 year-old Mac Pro and Samsung monitor with a 2018 MacBook Pro and this LG display, and this monitor is wonderful! Crystal clear and vivid colors. Im connecting it to the laptop through a CalDigit TS3+ docking station using the LG-supplied DisplayPort cable, and so far I havent had any issues. The key Ive found to having the display be recognized immediately is to power the display first, then turn on the laptop. Once macOS boots up and recognizes the monitor, I can close the laptop lid if desired.

I put off buying this for several months because of everyone making comments like "fake HDR" - it kind of got me down a bit. But after waiting 9 months and seeing absolutely nothing else on the market that was as good as of a fit for my xbox one x, I decided to buy this monitor. So happy I did. The two games I play the most - Overwatch and Path of Exiles - look incredible. And the size is perfect for me. You do need to spend some time finding the perfect settings though. Personally, I like the contrast turned up, the black levels turned low, input speed maxed out (lag is bad for gaming even if the picture looks slightly better), etc. There was another review with recommended settings for xbox that I generally followed as a starting point then tweaked for my taste. End of the day - Im glad I bought this monitor. Anthem is xbox one x enhanced and Im glad I have my setup in place for it.

I received this in 1-day shipping, hoping that through shipping the monitor would be fine. Unfortunately, as soon as I powered it up, it had 3 corners with light bleed, so severe that brightness set to 0 - as seen in the pictures, the light bleed comes out very strong. LG is tightening the metal frame and screws to hard around the edge. I massaged the frame with pressure and was able to only eliminate the top right corner. The most severe was the top left and lower right corners. If you turn on HDR in Windows 10, everything gets whitewashed. Way to bright, even with brightness set at 0. I had to turn off HDR in Windows 10 settings and turn on the HDR effect on the monitor to get HDR colors right. Unfortunately the light bleed is so strong that I decided to try and get a replacement, but now Amazon is out of stock. If they are out too long I will just process a full refund. I wish I could have used this monitor for more than a day but with the light bleed, its not worth the money to have this kind of issue. I also contacted LG Tech support but an RMA is too long.

Kind of crazy that value and 4k monitor are in the same subject line but for $300 its kind of nuts that you can get this kind of quality out of a panel. Im not sure how long it will last but it blew me away when I first turned it on and played a few video games on it. playing video games turn the sharpness all the way up. Ive had quite a few monitors most of them IPS and none of them quite pop with color the way this does. Theres a bit of glow and bleed but there is an every IPS panel so far its actually less than most I have had. Im really impressed with the picture quality it actually looks better than my 4K TV. I also had to reduce the brightness from 60 or 70% down to about 30. I dont know about the HDR part of it I did enable HDR and it does look a bit better but Im not sure if its true HDR but at this price it really didnt matter to me. I have a TN on 144 Hertz g-sync monitor thats 27 in and I have this right next to it and you can totally tell the difference in color. I wouldnt recommend this monitor for shooters but for pretty much any other scenery based game its perfect.I have been running in g-sync compatibility mode as well on the monitor and have not noticed any stuttering or glitches or artifacting in the six or seven games I tested with a GTX 1080 TI on display port. TL DR great monitor for the money I couldnt be happier with my purchase. Fyi the monitor ul500 to the highest level monitor on Amazon as of this review are the same panel, I am pretty sure just differences in features. At most the panels are probably binned for the higher priced products similar to how manufacturers like Intel and AMD sell CPUs.
