First off, I am a software developer, so my monitor needs arent as extravagant as a gamer or professional digital artist. That being said, I am picky with regards to text clarity, screen real estate and aesthetic, so I spent several months researching. Initially I was set on the Dell 38" or 34" ultrawides, but ultimately decided the utility of two 27" monitors would be better for productivity reasons. I was coming from two Dell 24" monitors and loved them, so naturally I was leaning towards Dell. Here were my main considerations, and why I ended up with the HP 27q: 1) PICTURE QUALITY (and backlight bleed) In this price range, picture quality between most brands out there arent going to vary drastically. While I didnt try this particular model in stores prior to purchasing, HP makes great monitors so it wasnt much of a concern coming from Dell. The picture quality is fantastic, albeit the back-light bleed that is oh-so-noticeable at night. Its not a huge deal for me as I dont watch movies or do professional graphic/photo work in my office. Actually, this monitors grays are fantastic which is generally the background color of my IDEs (i.e. VS/VS Code). Additionally, the displays are in my sunroom office, so during the day the bleed is not noticeable, and the brightness is perfect. I give the display a 4/5 for picture quality for the price, and for matching MY needs. If youre looking for show-stopping image quality that youd find in a photography studio, do yourself a favor and get comfortable with shelling out at least a grand. 2) AESTHETIC This is completely subjective, but my office is in a sunroom with white walls and dark gray wood flooring. If I were in a typical office setting, I would have gone the direction of the Dell Ultrasharps for their more bold and professional look. The HP 27q simply looks cleaner and matches my office decor. 3) UTILITY Dell wins here hands-down. While the base of the HP 27q is sleek and made of quality material, there is no adjust-ability besides tilting forward and back. I use a dual monitor mount for my set up, so this was not a consideration for me. However, if you are not using a different mount, I suggest avoiding this model. **NOTE: This model does include a VESA mount adapter, which is great.** 4) PRICE This was a big one. I wanted a high-quality display that looked great, but that was as inexpensive as possible. I was fortunate enough to grab this HP 27q on Amazon that was being sold for $210, and plan to buy a second soon. $280 is still a fair price. That being said, if you are going for a different look or need more utility out of your monitors base, I would also recommend looking at the Dell Ultrasharp 27" for about the same price.

This monitor has no dynamic backlight and a rather low contrast LCD. The screen is disconcertingly bright in a dark room, when its displaying full black. The black screen is also much more uneven, reminding of monitors made in early 2000s. Also, image retention is noticable a lot more than youd expect from a modern monitor. I am using this mostly for reading and programming, so my requirements for color are relatively low, yet this is bad enough that I will probably return it. You should be able to get a better glass with the same resolution for this amount of money. But, it youre not sensitive to blacks and image retention and/or work in a well-lit room, this is a good monitor, so 4 stars. As far as construction, stand, etc. everything is fine. The stand is heavy enough that this is quite stable on the desk, and the lack of degrees of freedom in the included stand does not get in the way at all. Its actually just perfect. My only problem is visual performance, black contrast and color retention. Bad enough that I am thinking of RETURNING the damn thing.+ UPDATE: didnt return, gave it to my gf for new years instead. The woman is happy, as she runs the stupid thing with full-on lights in the room anyhow. Got me an et322qk instead, which is bigger and higher res anyhow, and costs only a little more.

I am using this with a Mac Mini. It is compatible except for the on-screen menu for the display settings. You have to change the setting manually on the monitor itself. Other than that this screen is perfect. It is extremely lightweight. Very slim profile. Connection ports are easy to get to. There are 2 hdmi ports and a display port and one 3.5 aux port for speakers or headphones. ASSEMBLY IS A SNAP... literally, lol. You just snap the base into the screen and your are ready to use. It comes with two quality cable, hdmi and display so you are ready to go out of the box. I bought a thunderbolt to hdmi cable to go with my Mac Mini. The response time is amazing. There is zero lag. I dont game so I cannot speak to that. Oh by the way, THE DESIGN IS GORGEOUS. I have a white themed office and this monitor looks absolutely stunning on my desk. My only complaint is that the stand is not at all adjustable. You cannot adjust height or viewing angle and it CANNOT BE MOUNTED. This is what kept this monitor from getting 5 stars. I would have given it 4.5 if possible though. However this issue is big enough to cost it an entire star. As long as you dont need mounting or adjustable viewing angels, you will love this screen. It is easy on the eyes too with the right settings.

I wanted a 27" monitor but was worried that FHD would look too grainy. I found this monitor for just a bit more that looked really nice and had QHD resolution. I wish I had the desk space to add a second one. The design is really nice, and matches apple hardware well. The stand is heavy and solid, and the monitor stays stable even when the table gets bumped. The stand is solid metal, but the frame around the display is silver painted plastic. The monitor is really bright, I turned it down to 35% and it is still probably brighter than it ought to be. Contrast isnt as good as it could be - if you will be using this in the dark you may want to go with another monitor. Colors are good and I dont have any of the image retention issues that some reviews complained about. I just use this for office work, if you are a gamer you probably want something else. Overall, this is a great looking decent quality QHD monitor - you can probably get a slightly better image quality monitor for about the same price, but design of this one looks better (to me anyway) and except for the contrast I cant imagine the image quality needing to be any better. I have only had it a few days so I cant comment on durability except that it seems to be fairly well made.

Everything about this monitor is great with 2 exceptions. When I try it using Firefox or Edge browsers it doesnt fully display what is at a website such as Amazon, Bank of America and several others. Boxes and forms are incomplete. But when I use Chrome everything is perfect. Sometimes I switch browsers for specific sites and I have issues. How do you resolve this incompatibility?

This monitor is almost exactly what I was looking for. Great, sharp looking screen with minimal glare. The only negatives are the lack of height adjustment and no USB out so that it would become like a hub. The latter is more of a minor thing. But even without height adjustability, it is a great monitor.
