Bought this for glorious 21:9 gaming and general desktop use. Fully calibrated out of the box from the factory, for the most part, just leave color settings alone. 109 ppi, on par with the Acer Predator X34. Decent built in speakers for general use, which actually sound pretty good for when you take off your headphones and visit YouTube. On screen menu is very intuitive with loads of options organized nicely. The 1900R curve is great and immerses you. Movies look great on her too, no black bars on 21:9 content, which ~90% of films are shot at. The stand is very solid, no wiggle, feels like its bolted to my desk. It has a tad back-light bleed but this is a compromise for any IPS panel offering wider viewing angles...you really cant have both, at least at this price point. Thankfully the 3417s is minimal. Side note: To truly enjoy this with games at 3440 X 1440p (60Hz) on high/ultra settings, you will probably want to consider a beefy GPU. I would advise the GTX 1070 as a minimum. Witcher 3 and Skyrim look absolutely amazing on the 3417. Words cannot describe, it pulls you into the world just a little more. Leave the monitors response time set to "normal", as the "fast" setting seems to cause ghosting in scenes with lots of contrast. Overall, a very solid 21:9 monitor. I was on the fence, just like you probably are, but no regrets on a purchase that stayed in my wishlist for over 8 months. Once youve went 21:9, there is no going back.

I bought this monitor to replace an Acer K272HUL with an intent to use it for work and gaming purposes, and I will review those two purposes separately. Work: For work it has met my expectations. My complaint with the K272HUL had always been that it was too bright/harsh to stare at for long periods of time in a dimly lit room. I had the monitor brightness turned down all the way and still did a little extra tweaking via software drivers. With just a small amount of brightness tweaking on the U3417W I brought it down into a comfortable range where I can read documents and work at the command line for reasonable periods of time with improved text clarity. The extra width comes in very handy to have documentation as well as an IDE or terminal window open at the same time. I do very little photo editing or publishing work so color accuracy and high contrast arent as much of a concern as eye comfort. Gaming: For gaming purposes I find it a little less than ideal. The "IPS glow" as others mention must be what Im observing. Black isnt a very dark black -- its more like a charcoal grey. Depending on my angle to the screen it can seem a little darker/lighter or even a bit silvery. This means that my older Acer has the Dell beat for blackness depth and uniformity. Enabling either Gaming or Movie preset mode turns on Dynamic Contrast ratio which helps. Also, there is a bit of back light bleed at the corners with the lower left hand being the worst-- not terrible but noticeable above the ambient backlight glow on a very dark screen. Some have claimed that the U3415W is worse, but I have not had the opportunity to compare them. I dont tend to watch movies on this screen, but if I did I could see the glow and bleed as being potential issues. Competitive online multiplayer isnt for me so having super tight input lag isnt critical. However, its nice to have the extra width in FPS games and I havent particularly noticed blurring or lag issues. I have adjusted to sitting a little bit further back from the monitor in order to take it all in though.

You can find lots of reviews online that tout this as "best in class" or best bang for the buck, as well as reviews comparing this to the older 3415 and larger 3418 models. Everything is true, the picture quality is simply superb and this is a very well designed monitor. I have this thing connected to a LOT of devices. Highly recommended!! My connections are as follows: MacMini on HDMI, Desktop PC with NVIDIA card on HDMI, Desktop PC with NVIDIA on DP to DP cable, and MacBook Air or Dell Laptop on the mini DP (requires manual cable switching between the laptops). I also have an old video surveillance system with a VGA to HDMI cable that can be manually swapped with the Desktop/HDMI as needed. There are no video splitters, mergers, converters, or hubs. The unit comes with 2 full size DP inputs, and I was unclear that you could not use both as DP1 and DP2 inputs. This is not the case. Using Dells online forums I got a quick response and screenshot from the owners manual validating that the 2nd DP port was only an uplink port, to drive 2 monitors with one graphics card, through the DP in and out via the DP out. DP#2 is essentially and output only, but not clearly labeled as such. The unit ships new with a bright orange cap covering up this port, so that should have tipped me off. This feature is only useful if your graphics card and other monitor support it, since you could do a wraparound dual 34" screens. Big shout out to Chris on the customer forums. Dell phone tech support was actually willing to send me a new monitor, but obviously mine was not doing anything wrong. The monitor comes standard with a generous 3 year warranty. Part of learning that I was wrong about this monitor not having 2 DP inputs, I also learned that the DP input (or maybe the format in general?) has some I/O quicks. For example, you can not really go from a HDMI output on a graphics card, in to the DP input with a cable. Most HDMI-DP cables are one directional not bi-directional - and that direction is DP out to HDMI in. So you can go from the DP out of the NVIDIA card to the HDMI input of your Monitor, but cant go HDMI out or VGA out to DP in. Not sure why the specification is limited, since it seems logical that someone would want to leverage the DP input on this (and other) as an additional "traditional" HDMI type of connection. Think of an example where you have a bunch of things with HDMI out (Mac, PC, Xbox, PS4, Switch, etc.) and no DP out from those. This monitor would essentially limit you to the 2 HDMI inputs and you would have a minDP and 2 DP ports on the back of this monitor that could not be utilized (even though logic would say, hey, there are 5 things on the back of this monitor that look like they should be video inputs)! Another interesting tidbit for Mac users. My MacMini is a late 2012 model, so it does NOT allow the user to connect via miniDP (a.k.a Thunderbolt 2) to miniDP as the PRIMARY video output. Interestingly, you CAN use the miniDP (TB2) as a secondary output, but only after the HDMI out of the Mac is connected and active as the primary output first. It would have been nice if Apple supported either/or HMDI or miniDP/TB2 as the "primary" video out. HDMI out of the MacMini works great and looks great at full 3440x1440 resolution, but only at 30Hz. I dont expect to do any 60/120Hz gaming on a mac with a 6 year old integrated video output. I dont watch Apple store 4K/60Hz videos/movies/shows on this machine. I am almost certain that the newer MacMini as well as some iMac and the cylindrical MacPro all support Thunderbolt 2 to miniDP for primary video output. The MacBook Air certainly works fine in this regard. Apparently Thunderbolt 3 to miniDP has its idiosyncrasies, so if you are a Mac user you need to do some homework. I think Dell makes a better Mac monitor then Apple (certainly way cheaper and more flexible). The gaming experience on a pretty old and basic NVIDIA g-Series 9800 graphics card is very good. The 34" screen is very immersive with minimal lag for casual gamers and playing some basic fighting, driving, arcade, adventure and FPS games. Curious how a new/real/current graphics card would look, Im sure it would be amazing, but Im not dropping $350 when most of my gaming is on consoles. At least not until I start fooling with VR and with VR the external monitor no longer matters, LOL. The main reason I bought this monitor was multi-screen productivity, I do a lot with Protools, Ableton Live, and some pro audio and video (Mac and PC) applications. The ability to open up the Mix and Edit windows, while having plugins and virtual synths (Live, Reason, NI Komplete, Akai MPC, Arturia, and Spectrasonics) all on the screen at the same time AND to be able to still open word/excel docs, notes, and web browsers is just superb. Sure, any 34" 3440x1440 will enable this, but the font detail, color accuracy, and overall clarity of this monitor is simple excellent for $600. Again, highly recommended!!

I originally was skeptical that I would ever care for such a wide screen or a curved screen. However, after getting 2 of these at work I realized I had to get one for the home office or I was losing out on too much screen functionality. The resolution is nice, although I wish it was a full 4k instead of only about 2k. If you are looking at the Dell 34" monitors I would have to say go with the U3417W instead of the U3415W the 15 is not near as curved and the stand is better on the 17. Furthermore with the 17 there are USB ports on the side for easy access. If there must be cons listed, I would complain about the weight and the light bleeding at the edges but unless you are doing graphical work it is easily overlooked and forgotten.

I will start by saying that I have little to no experience with any competitor products. My 1080p Asus recently gave out after ~5 years, so it was time for a new monitor. I went to Frys to compare different monitors, but they didnt have a floor model of the u3417w. I did consider the 34" curved Samsung, but the 1080p resolution on such a big screen was atrocious. I also looked at the higher end gaming monitors, but their $1k+ price point was a deal breaker, plus I dont do much gaming so the extras werent worth it for me. I decided that the u3417w was the right compromise. I use the monitor for school work, programming, very light gaming and reading. For these purposes, this monitor is close to perfect. The aspect ratio and curve took less than an hour to get used to (never having been exposed to either). The menu structure is very easy to use and the settings are useful. This is my main monitor for my computer, and it also extends my wifes 2009 iMac 24". Her iMacs screen is almost the identical height of this screen (off by ~1/2"), so they look great next to each other (in big part thanks to the adjustable height of the Dell). The backlight bleed is heaviest in the bottom left corner, but its not terribly bad. Applying a small amount of pressure to the plastic corner seems to take it away entirely, so I might look into some of the common fixes to minimize it. The only other problem Ive had is trying to get the USB hub to work with my computer, though I cant say its the monitors fault. Im running an Asus p8z68-v pro gen3 motherboard with an AsMedia USB 3.0 controller. When connected to the monitor, my wireless mouse and keyboard constantly disconnect and reconnect. Ive tried various fixes, but none work permanently. My solution so far has been to connect this to a USB 2.0 port on my computer, which then works flawlessly. This is less then ideal, but it doesnt bother me. Ive ordered another USB A to B cable (the monitor only comes with one) to connect to my wifes iMac. Since her iMac only supports USB 2.0, I dont feel like Im losing anything. From what I believe, any mouse /keyboard plugged into the monitor will work for whatever computer is on the screen at the time. This saves us from needing two keyboards (or unplugging and replugging the dongle). Ill update my post regarding this as soon as I try it out. All-in-all, Im quite impressed by this monitors capabilities. It has the right mix of functionality, quality, and wow-factor. Obviously I wish the price was lower, but Id still say it was worth the ~$800

I normally dont review items, just a personal preference, but feel I need to in this case for the Dell U3417W 1900R UltraSharp 34" Curved Monitor I purchased. First, a shout out to Amazon customer service. I received my initial order for this monitor on April 21, 2017, two days after ankle surgery, so I couldnt open up and install the monitor, needing to let it sit in my living room for just over 6 weeks before being able to do so, because I could not walk for that long. The box was in very good shape from shipping, so I wasnt worried and its a Dell monitor, so I didnt think anything of it. Well, I finally got to open and setup my new monitor, last Saturday, 3 Jun 2017. Monitor looked perfect, no problems visually to it at all. I was very excited to be able to hook it up after so long, but after doing so and turning it on I was devastated to see that the lower left hand corner had a tear (the only way to describe it) of about three inches long, inside the monitor. I was heartbroken and sick over it. No visual damage "anywhere", but inside the screen was torn. I called Amazon in dismay, because my opportunity to return the monitor expired on 21 May 2017. I explained my situation to the Amazon customer service representative and was very pleasantly surprised and how understanding and helpful he was as well as the supervisor he was communicating with. They not only authorized an exception to the deadline of being able to return the monitor of 21 May 2017, but also arranged to have the monitor picked up and put in a replacement order for me. THANK YOU AMAZON FOR YOUR EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT. IM EXTREMELY GRATEFUL! The replacement monitor was unfortunately not scheduled to be available for delivery until around the end of June, but I was OK with that. However, on Monday, 5 Jun 2017, I noticed that it was being prepared for shipment and I received it via FedEx today. Unbelievable! Wow! I proceeded to open the monitor TODAY, set it up and connect it to my system and its working BEAUTIFULLY. Dell did a REALLY good job with this. Its crisp and clear edge to edge and EXTREMELY suitable for what Im using it for, programming. Im running all my virtual development environments on here and my VMware guests are now running with a screen resolution of 3436 x 1327. There are no defects I can find on the screen what-so-ever. Im VERY HAPPY! Dell monitors are a good bet anyways, but this is outstanding.

I am using this with a 13" MacBook Pro w/ Touchbar (late 2016). Have it connected from the Monitors DisplayPort to one of the Laptopss USB-C plugs (search Amazon for part no. JCA141). Works flawlessly - as a replacement for a dual screen setup. The resolution is great, as is the color for my use (business, programming etc). Have added a photo of this monitor on a 24" deep by 60" long (smallish) desk - leaves plenty of space for my needs. Minus one star as at night, on a black screen there is very noticeable backlight bleed in all four corners.

I previously had a complex setup with 24" dual monitors shared between a few PCs using a KVM. I replaced all that with this single 34", which is the same height as the previous setup but wider. I use keyboard and mouse (Logitech) via the monitor switched USB. The picture is as expected and subject of many other reports - Im more than happy with it for my desktop shared between Macbook and Linux/Ubuntu. If I have any complaint its that Dell have not thought to add soft key switching to it. I have to use the clunky monitor buttons, about half a dozen pushes, to switch input. Hotkey 1 or 2 on the keyboard would be so much nicer. Unfortunately I could not find any better options in my search, so although this is cumbersome for frequent switching, Im still happy with performance overall.

I spent a long time trying to decide what I wanted in a monitor. I was replacing an HP ZR24w, which is 16:10 aspect (1920x1200) that I had for some time and really liked. Eventually I narrowed it down to either a 27" 1440p or a 34" ultrawide, as the consensus seemed to be that 27" was a little too small for 4K - at least with Windows 7. After much debate and poring over specs I landed on the U3417W, and I have not been disappointed! Ultimately what I needed was screen real estate, which is why I liked my previous 16:10 AR monitor - and this thing has plenty of it! My biggest concern was that the curve in the screen would end up being a gimmicky design concept that detracts from the image quality, but I have found that you very quickly get used to it, and using the monitor is a rather immersive experience. So far everything about the monitor has been up to task - text legibility, video, gaming, multitasking, etc. The build quality is also very good, which is another one of the reasons that I chose this over some of the less expensive 34 ultrawide options, both the display and stand are very sturdy feeling and are up to the level that you would expect of a monitor in this price range. I am thoroughly convinced at this point, and have no regrets about splurging on this.

I use this monitor for business in a job where I regularly have to review CAD files along side other documents. I spent personal money to upgrade from the company allotted two monitors and Im so glad I did. It feels more like an efficiency necessity than a luxury item. Through included software I have the screen divided into thirds. Each third is perfectly acceptable for an individual document though I mostly use 2/3rds for my main document and the last third for a reference document. Using the whole screen for one task is bigger than you need. The built in stand is also terrific. You can easy adjust swivel, tilt, and height with little force but once set it just stays.
Make sure this fitsby entering your model number.
