EDIT 9/21/2018 Its been a few months. Monitor is doing great despite it was probably very old stock. It requires a lot of setting up, trial and error, but once you get it going, it is a fantastic gaming monitor. I suggest going to the Nvidia forum as well, to properly set Gsync. Its not as easy as just turning it on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay... It was a very difficult choice whether or not to get this monitor. At the price point, you will NEVER find a gaming monitor with G-Sync with a 1440p resolution and a 165hz capability. I mainly bought this monitor to experience a resolution higher than 1080p, and finally get a taste of G-Sync. those two things have definitely exceeded my expectations. 1440p isnt really that different from 1080p, but you will notice it. It is crystal-clear and some details stand out when compared to 1080p. As for G-Sync... That is the absolute way to play a game! Breathtaking... ZERO tearing, ZERO stutter and ZERO input lag. You will not game any other way once you experience it. Now, for the monitor. I mean, it is a nice monitor and it feel well-build. The appearance may not be for many, as it does look like an office monitor. Compared to my ASUS vg248qe, which looks absolutely beautiful. But that, at the end, is superfluous... Image wise. This monitor is not the best when it comes to colors. It didnt really take me more than two minutes to set it up, compared to other users that report up to two days of tinkering and changing options. Colors feel dull... there is no saturation, and the gamma is a bit weird. ghosting and invert pixels are horribly noticeable when response time is set to "Fast." I had to turn it to "Normal." Another thing that bothered me as soon as I got the package was how old and worn the box looked. This unit was sold as new, but it was definitely used before. There was dust at the back of the panel, and some scratches where the mount goes. this monitor was at least used as display at some point. However, I am willing to ignore that, as at least it did have protective plastic still on, which tells me it wasnt really used for too long. But mainly because of the price. All in all, Im just impressed on the G-Sync feature and the 1440p resolution.

This is a phenomenal monitor and after extensive research I am very happy that this is the one I purchased. I am not a tech expert, but a fairly knowledgeable amateur (as most of us looking at this monitor probably are). At the end of the day I simply want a monitor that I dont have to think about, a monitor that does its job so well that Im not ever required to worry about it. This monitor absolutely does that. First, the actual physical presence of the monitor; the screen extends almost all the way to the edges, leaving only a narrow black frame around the edges. This is a very appealing minimalist look and helps you focus on whatever is on the screen, not whats around it. The size of this thing is just right--27 inches really is the ideal monitor size for most people; it dominates your field of vision but not so much that your eyes have to search all over the place. The buttons on the underside of the monitor are small but simple to use, and the options easy to click through. The monitor also has all of the ports youd want in a modern monitor (several USB 3.0, an HDMI, and a DisplayPort [DP]). The final physical feature I like about this monitor is that it is one of those rare monitors that is fully adjustable--it can tilt, swivel, pivot, and adjust its height. I dont know why more monitors dont have this, because the ability to perfectly position your monitor the way you want it is awesome. While all of those are outstanding features and definitely contribute to the monitor, ultimately a monitor is all about the screen and its picture quality. This monitor delivers. For serious computer people (like you, because your looking at a $500 monitor), one of the biggest questions is what type of panel to buy, an IPS or a TN (or possibly a VA). Without wanting to get into that whole debate, let me just say that this TN panel look vibrant, has rich colors, seamless response times, and good viewing angles (though everyone just looks at a monitor from straight on anyways). With a native resolution of 2560x1440 (WQHD), the image is as big and sharp as you could want (its not 4K, but most of our eyes cannot even perceive the difference because science). With a potential refresh rate at 144 Hz, this monitor is at the cutting edge (quite frankly, a lot of graphics cards, and almost all games, arent yet able to fully utilize such ability, I actually set my monitor down to 120 Hz for most things). The built-in Nvidia G-Sync only makes this all work even better. Out of the box this monitor was already calibrated pretty well--I was blown away by how good images looked. But as with any high-end monitor or TV, you really need to sit down and calibrate the display settings at least once. A previous reviewer did a very nice job offering people a list of settings, my slightly different version is below. I dont think mine is inherently superior, rather I think each monitor is slightly different and each person has slightly different preferences. The following, especially compared to his, will give you a range to play around with. I hope it helps. On the monitor itself (using the buttons on the underside of the screen): Brightness - 35% Contrast - 75% Custom Color (R) - 98% Custom Color (G) - 98% Custom Color (B) - 95% Response Time - Normal Monitor Deep Sleep - Disable On the computer (likely through the Nvidia Control Panel if you have an Nvidia graphics card) All Channels (so you dont need to individually adjust the Red, Green, and Blue channels) Brightness - 55% Contrast - 40% Gamma - 0.66 Vibrance - 55% Hue - 0 This calibration worked well on most visual tests for seeing all whites and blacks in various pictures, and seems to deliver highly accurate colors and that wow factor that just makes a screen grab your attention. If you are considering a high-end (i.e. expensive!) monitor, this is the one to get. There are others out there with more features (you wont need), different panel types (like IPS, which I dont miss with this monitor), and with a higher price tag (who wants that?), but this monitor really does hit all the right notes and for two years I have been supremely pleased with it. Go ahead and get this monitor.

Pros: The monitor looks great for the size and my distance from the screen. I dont know if 4k would be a large improvement for most people at a desk. Take a look at distance that the human eye can tell the difference between resolutions to get your correct size. 24" is about the limit of 1440p. Easy to connect and hook up. Cons: The monitor caught fire less than 15 minutes of it being turned on. There was a beautiful hole burned through screen. (Picture attached). Dell Support: there is supposed to be 3 year warranty to exchange the monitor but I have spent over an hour and follow up emails that were promised regarding my open case have not been answered. I expect quick responses and resolution when it comes to warranties. I would not leave this monitor unattended and on for the first few weeks you own it. Will update rating as the warranty process continues.

After using this for one week, I will say I am happy with it. I am by no means a monitor connoisseur though. I bought this for 2K and gsync, and I am not disappointed. From my experience going from 1080p to 2k cost me about 20fps on The Witcher 3 all settings on ultra except the hairworks . I am running an older rig with a GTX1070. (I5 3570K 16GB of DDR3)

I have the same ASUS 1080p 144hz monitor that most of the gaming community has. I bought this Dell monitor because I thought 165hz, 2k resolution, and G-Sync would be an upgrade but I was wrong. I had 2 major problems with this monitor... 1. There was noticeable light bleeding along the bottom of the monitor. This did seem to slowly go away after using it for a while. 2. When G-sync was enabled, I had very bad stuttering problems when playing games in Boderless-Window mode which is how I play all my games since I have multiple monitors. When using the monitor in Fullscreen mode, there was no issue. When it comes to 165hz VS 144hz, I could tell no difference at all. If you have a current generation graphics card (GTX 1060 or above) (I am using a 1080 in this case) then there is really no reason to pay extra for G-sync because you are probably running a higher fps than your monitor is capable of anyway so you wont see any real benefit. If you are running a GPU that has trouble keeping up, consider upgrading your GPU rather than dishing out a $200 premium for G-sync. As for the quality of the monitor, it was very well built and was very aesthetically pleasing. It had almost no bezel around the outside and viewing angles were decent for a TN panel. The stand was well made and sturdy.

PROS: + Beautiful 1440p images in lighter scenes + 165hz adds incredible smoothness to image quality + Pretty vibrant colors CONS: - Pixelated blacks and darker shades; even after calibration, performs poorly in darker scenes - When swapping to lower resolutions from 1440p in-game, massive tear appears down middle and to the right of the screen - On occasion, swapping inputs from HDMI to direct input causes the monitor to not power up; the only solution was to unplug the monitor and plug it back in OVERALL: - Would be a fantastic monitor for the price, if it didnt had any of these issues. Never had any issue with the two BenQ monitors weve had before. Didnt want to give this a one-star, but having these problems immediately out-of-box is disappointing.

For the price and the specs youre getting, this monitor cannot be beat. I really like the design of this monitor as it has that minimalistic look that doesnt scream gamer and has a square base, which I prefer. The build quality is solid and sturdy. The monitor is adjustable with it being able to go up, down, left, right, and the base has a swivel function. Assembling and setting up was also straightforward and simple. As a gaming monitor, I find the specs perfect for my needs, 1440p, 144hz, 1ms, and G-Sync. The only con is that it has a TN panel and the viewing angles arent that great. However, looking at screen directly as anyone should, I think it looks awesome! I actually tried the settings that the top reviewer recommended and to my surprised, I like the stock settings much more to the point that I just use it as is out of the box and still am. Now the reason why I did not give this a 5 star rating is because exactly one week into my usage, I had a stuck pixel on the 7th day. Keep in mind that this monitor was a revision A07 and was manufactured in September of 2017 so it was pretty much the latest updated version and new. I tried to remedy it, but to no avail. Therefore, I had to return the monitor. However, I like this monitor so much that I gave it another shot and ordered another one and also because I couldnt find any other monitors with the same specs, design, and price that this monitor offers. I am currently using the new monitor to type this review and have been using it so far for exactly 13 days with no problems. I hope it stays that way and will update this review down the line if anything. By the way, my new monitor is also an A07 revision and was manufactured in August of 2017. Overall, I think the monitor is great for the price and specs and anyone thinking about purchasing it should just give it a go and see if you like it or not.

This was my first "gaming" monitor purchase and I am very satisfied with it. Dell makes really nice monitors and this one doesnt disappoint. It has QHD resolution which is a higher than 1080 HD but lower than 4K. To me that is the perfect sweet spot for resolution. To get games at 4K 60 fps you would need a pretty beefy computer rig to run it. But at QHD a GTX1070 works great for even the most demanding games. The 144hz is also a good thing about this monitor. It can be overclocked to 165 if need but honestly I cant tell the difference after 144hz. I also like the looks of this monitor. I prefer my setup to look clean and nice and this monitor is perfect. Some people might like the flashy alien look of other gaming monitors. At the price point its at now, I think this monitor is great value! Until they make 4K monitors more affordable, stick with QHD you wont be disappointed.

I bought this Dell monitor last week after rave reviews on many different websites. My experience isnt translating as well. First of all, Im pretty sure I was sold a used monitor marked as new. I paid the full new price for it, and when it arrived the box was beaten up pretty badly. As well as multiple shipping labels on it that had been covered up various times. It was clear this box has been around. As for the physical monitor itself, the results were similar. The top bezel was coming loose from the monitor itself (looking like it either was dropped or that it had been pried off), and in the bottom left there are 2-3 dead pixels. That, coupled with either a dead pixel or scratch that manifests itself RIGHT in the middle of the screen during gray/black backgrounds that makes it impossible to ignore. Ive since been in touch with Dell due to their advance exchange program, but apparently this monitor has been discontinued and they are contacting me Monday with possible replacements. For 400+ I expected better quality control. Another note is 144hz is amazing, regardless of monitor. Absolute game changer. Gsync seems alright, wish Nvidia would get its head out of its ass and use the Adaptive standard like AMD with Freesync. The premium just doesnt seem worth it. I almost wish I had never entered the world of high refresh rates and adaptive sync. I know its going to make it hard to go back and keep me in the upper price brackets for any upgrades. I remember when 60hz looked normal and smooth; after this its a choppy mess.

The Good: This monitor is shipped well, packaging is very protective. Easy to unbox and setup. Comes with all the necessary cables such as DP to DP, which can support 165hz, an HDMI to HDMI, power cable, and USB B Female to USB A male. The picture is clear and sort of color accurate, but as I am using it for gaming I dont really care about that so much. There are 6 usb 3 ports, 2 on the side, a headphone jack on the left. The built in menu is easy to navigate with the 4 buttons at the bottom. The Bad: The USB ports on my device are spotty, meaning that lets say Im listening to music with my headphones that are connected via usb. Every ten seconds or so the signal will just cut out, after 2 seconds the music comes back, but I missed those 2 seconds between the signal loss. Same thing with a keyboard, it will act like I didnt press keys while the usb timed out. This happened on every single USB port on the monitor. Replacing the USB B to A cable didnt work either, so it seems to just be inside the monitor. Not to mention that the USB A placement is incredibly hard to reach, so make sure you have everything plugged in before moving your monitor back so you dont have to keep readjusting. The Ugly: Customer support. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with this person who wasnt familiar with the monitor or any troubleshooting fixes. At some points she asked me if "The computer was plugged into the monitor". I ended up hanging up as the advice given was just insulting. UPDATE: Since the post, I have gotten a replacement cable rather than the one that dell provides, which works perfectly, but I will not be changing the stars as Dell really should check all accessories before sending them off. Overall, the monitor is good for gaming, but the quality control from dell is somewhat worrying considering the price point. I am still annoyed at the Tech supports lack of knowledge on their products and I hope that Ill find a fix for this issue, otherwise an okay purchase.
