So my main rig died after about 8 years of faithful service and so it was time for some upgrades. I decided that while I was upgrading the one rig, Id build a pair of new ones for my wife and I, relegating my old rig to standard downloading/streaming tasks. One of the new parts to be considered was a monitor, as mine were dying a slow miserable death. Enter, the ASUS VS229H-P. I basically had a short list of requirements for this monitor: >20-25" >HDMI >VERSA compatible After reading through a metric ton of reviews I settled on this ASUS, and Ive not been disappointed. In fact, I liked it so much that I ordered two more, and will likely order another one or two, making it the standard monitor for my house. The stand it comes with is decent, but I intended to mount it from the start (hence the need for VERSA compatibility). So I picked up one of these to mount it to ( VideoSecu TV Wall Mount Articulating Arm Monitor Bracket for most 12"-24", some up to 27" LCD LED Plasma Flat Panel Screen TV with VESA 100/75mm ML10B 1E9 ) paired with a 10 HDMI cable, and mounted it above my computer desk. The picture is beautiful, paired with my 980Ti it blows my old setup away. And for the price, you cant beat it. Picked all of mine up for around $110 a piece. Honestly, the only thing I would change if I could is the finish. Its that glossy black that is impossible to keep clean. I would have preferred a matte black finish. But honestly its hair splitting at this point.

For the money this is a solid monitor. Viewing angles are decent, colors look pretty good, very sharp picture. The size is also perfect for 1080p. I previously had a 27 Inch AOC 1080p monitor and honestly it looked horrible because of the low PPI. The unboxing experience was very pleasant. The box was easy to open and was very easy to assemble. In the box you get: The base stand, the display itself, a power cable, a VGA and a DVI Cable, unfortunately no HDMI, but DVI Does give out pretty much the same signal as HDMI. Once you connect the monitor to your PC, Mac or game console you will soon realize the colors and brightness are a bit off. So once you get this monitor you will have to calibrate it and change some monitor settings to your liking. Once you do that and its setup to your perference, then you will really like this monitor. In fact, the factory presets are the only reason I gave this monitor a 4/5. Whos this monitor for? Well, its not really designed for graphic artists. There are better options out there. I use mine with my gaming PC and games look very nice, but if you want more accurate color then you may want to pick up a more high end monitor. Overall, would I recommend it? Yes. If you dont care about a few colors being slightly off and just want a basic 1080p monitor, go for it. Its like every other Asus product, its solid and works very well.

Nice color, nice image, not too heavy. The only problem came in when after I used it for two weeks. I moved the PC-end of my HDMI cable from my PC to my Mac. So, I never touched the HDMI port on the monitor itself. And when I put the HDMI cable _back_ into my Windows laptop, the monitor went unresponsive. I tried another HDMI cable, same thing. No signal received, according to the monitor. I tried a VGA cable, and that worked. So, I put the original HDMI cable back into the back of the monitor again and pressed hard, and it worked that time. Over the next week, it became clearer that the HDMI port on the back of the new monitor was very touchy -- like it had a short or was ill-seated.

The best part about this monitor is the price. This was my first monitor purchase. I am trying to create a desktop set up for my 13" macbook air. Pros: -Price -Size - it is relatively thin and light -once calibrated the screen can look nice and viewing angles are great -So far I have no compatibility issues using this with a mac running 10.10.1 Cons -out of the box the calibration was terrible and all the presets were also terrible - and I am not a photographer or graphics artist etc. I know very little about proper colors but I could just tell things were off. -the base is basically unusable without some kind of workaround If you plan on doing any serious typing at your desk while using this monitor and your desk isnt made out of a solid block of wood you will have an intolerable amount of wobbling. I didnt think it could be that bad with so many 5 star reviews. IT IS THAT BAD. Luckily there are a few options to rectify this. You can buy a good vesa mount monitor stand to replace the stock stand. But this will increase the total cost and then you might have been better off buying a pricier monitor. OR you can find something to stabilize the ends of the monitor. I am using stacks of books on either side of the monitor to stabilize it. Working pretty well so far although I probably wont be able to easily access the controls or the on/off button using this method.

Im an IT Technician and custom installer. I like to stick to brands when they work for me because i know they will be reliable. Ive been a promoter of ASUS for years, since the days when they only made motherboards. I bought 12 of these for some offices I was setting up for different clients. These monitors look nice and sound nice, when they work. Out of the 12 that I bought I had 4 defective units. One has the images frozen on the screen, buttons are unresponsive, and the only way to power on and off is by removing the power cable. On the other three units, when you turn the computer and monitor off you have to select the input EACH time you turn it back on, to set it to HDMI or VGA or whatever. its ridiculous and my clients have repeatedly unplugged or turned off their computer because they believe its not turning on and call me to tell me something is wrong because they power everything on and theres no picture until you cycle through the inputs to select the correct one. Its UNACCEPTABLE and any old monitor with multiple inputs gets this right. I wont be buying these again. ASUS was once a respectable motherboard company. Their quality control has gone to crap and all their products are subpar because they try to do too many things. Dont even get me started on their laptop computers. What a disaster.

After six months, this monitor stopped working. Luckily, it has a 3 year "rapid replacement warranty" combined with a "corporate stable model" that commits them to "guaranteeing" a stable supply for a minimum of one year. Well, not really.... I filed the "online RMA request" and got an email telling me to proceed to step 2, which was to call them. No phone number, but after 5-10 minutes of searching, I found a number and called. Im not at all sure what the point of he online process was, because after being put on hold for 5 minutes, the first thing we did was recollect all of the information, even though they clearly already had it. Then the fun started. I got a couple of more emails and a return label; I asked if they were going to send me a box. No, I was told I would have to "Source" that, and that they recommended AGAINST using the box it came in. Could I use the box that they shipped my rapid replacement in, I asked. Rapid Replacement? Youre asking for that? After replying yes and reading the description on the web page, I was rewarded with a ten minute hold. Finally: "were sorry, but that product is not in stock." What? What about the "Corporate Stable Model" that says (and I quote): "As the first monitor series to enter our renowned Corporate Stable Model program, the VS series is guaranteed to remain in stable supply for a minimum of 1 year." Well, that caused a LONG process of repeating data, serial numbers, insistence that my version of the web page didnt meet hers, that my model wasnt covered, etc etc, culminating in: it is not in stock. Needless to say, I got a supervisor who, after a five minute wait followed by a quick revisitation of the model number, serial number, etc, put me on hold for 10 minutes and came back with the new: sorry, not in stock. What does the corporate stable model mean, I asked? Have they actually stopped production? Well, it turns out, "not in stock" means, in the best interpretation, we dont have any today. We may have some tomorrow, but (in a not so good interpretation), we really have no intention of shipping a rapid replacement, so well hurry you right to the "find a box and ship it to us and wait until we decide what to do next process," rather than wait a day or two and honor our commitments. At some point, though, the ASUS supervisor I spoke with did say that the model started production in 2014, so even though it is on todays product page, what the "Corporate Stable Model" means is that ASUS is absolutely committed to rapidly replacing any covered products, so long as they come in by the end of 2015. Starting today. Apparently, I am not the only one subject to the same treatment. This is not a one off. This is a clear, calculated, managed attempt to misrepresent the warranty support for an admittedly cheap - and in my experience - shoddy product. Caveat emptor.

Monitor is dead after 5 weeks - 1 week past the Amazon return window of course. Same behavior others have noted. Screen goes in and out flickering then dies completely. Most companies would send you a replacement when you have a brand new item that is clearly a defective unit but not Asus. They want to try to "repair" it & send back what should have been a brand new items but is now a repair job, and if they cant, they will eventually send you a replacement. That replacement is likely a refurbish job and not a new one. *** Tech stated they never replace brand new units that are defective.*** I might eventually have a monitor to use but itll be junk and Ill likely have to go get another one to use in the mean time. Save yourself the Asus run around and just get a different monitor to begin with.

This is one of about a dozen monitors my company has purchased that constantly flashes off and on. Tried working with Asus but they will only offer a repair which means well be without a monitor in the meantime. Asus support is useless. They will only offer repair and not cross-ship. So unless you have more than 1 monitor, youre out of luck. Update 10/5/2017: More monitors are flashing, Asus is still not offering cross exchange. Their only offer is to repair the monitors but in order to do that, we need to purchase more monitors to cover those that are being repaired. UPDATE 11/13/2017: Still dealing with ASUS. They are not honoring their 3-year warranty. Im trying to have another one of the 30+ weve purchased in the past 2 years repaired and they are telling me (based on the serial number) that the warranty is expired. Thus they are trying to charge for 2-way shipping and for the repair. This is a monitor that was purchased in 12/2016. Others were purchased in 2015 that did include free shipping and repair, but monitors purchased as recently as 4/2017 dont include free shipping or repair. Plus, they take 24-36 hours to respond. Chatting with them is pointless as (by his own admission) was chatting with as many as 8 other people at once. The cost of shipping these back to Asus is $40.00 for ground shipping for UPS. For another $65.00 I can purchase another monitor. UPDATE: We tried working with ASUS, but they couldnt honor their replacement guarantee of sending us a refurbished monitor to replace our faulty monitors. Further, one of the Asus support people implied (rather strongly) that its a known issue. After replacing 8 of the faulty monitors, they stopped responding. Were still stuck with monitors that are acting as if the data cable is removed. Im coming to the conclusion that the HDMI port on the monitor isnt completely maintaining the connection as when the cable is disconnected and re-inserted, the issue goes away for days.

I purchased three of these monitors (one from NewEgg and two a few months later from Amazon) and overall theyre nice monitors with good color reproduction, but one of the monitors has a faulty power socket. I sent it in for an RMA and it came back with the exact same problem and apparently whatever they replaced wasnt the problem. I RMAed it a second time, they shipped me an entirely new panel with a new serial number (with a Feb 2015 production date) that had the exact same problem. At this point it feels like they changed subcontractors (Foxconn to Quanta, or whatever) and the new supplier just plain makes defective products. The only thing they can do is RMA it a third time, which is three times too many. At this point it feels like Asus is in Breach of Warranty and has sold me a product that is unfit for purpose and is unwilling or unable to repair or replace it under the terms of their warranty. If this were a car Id have the legal right to claim a refund under lemon laws. For what its worth the two that work fine have production dates of Sept. 2014 and July 2013. Some time after Sept. 2014 they moved production to a different factory and started making defective versions. The problem monitor also has a significantly shorter stand and a noticeably smaller panel and bezel, but still has the "VS239H-P" model number.

I originally purchased this item a little over one year ago. I was thrilled with the purchase. Everything seemed perfect; IPS display, good price, good size. It was just what I was looking for. Just after one year, the monitor quickly went from showing vertical lines on the screen to a violent flicker. The issue would persist, even without cables plugged in. OK, bad timing (I rely on this monitor for business), but whatever it has a 3 year warranty. As an IT technician, Ive RMAd plenty of monitors. Ill wait a couple of weeks for the replacement. I go to Amazon and purchase a replacement monitor (same model) so I can get back working. I receive the new monitor and ship the defective unit back to the mother ship. I figure once I get my original monitor back I will have dual monitors, which I have been missing. Now Im kind of excited. Until today... I am typing this review from my laptop. It is 33 days after the purchase of my second monitor, I left the room to refill my cup of joe and come back in the room to the violent flicker of death. You have got to be kidding me. OK, lets go online and check the RMA status of the original. It has to be on its way after a month, right? Wrong again pal. Online status still shows customer product not received. Meanwhile, Fedex tracking indicates delivery date of 7/31. Awesome. To wrap up, I must return my second monitor and purchase a THIRD monitor so I can work this week. Lets just say, it wont be this model. If you are curious, heres my setup: Nvidia 9600 GSO video card DVI to HDMI Converter HDMI to monitor Monitor power cord plugged into APC UPS Nothing special and a setup that has worked MULTIPLE times in the past with several manufacturers. (Dell, Acer, Hanns-G, Other ASUS models, etc.)
