Physical construction: pretty decent imo, the frame is more stylish than it looks in the pictures as it is modernly curved with a gloss finish. Performance: I used an HDMI cable, and endlessly fiddled with the display settings, but ultimately the colors on the screen would always be off in some way. Either the colors would be way too vibrant, or the contrast would be extremely poor. And no matter what, the blacks were TERRIBLE, they never got any better than being noticeably gray. Price: At the time of purchase, I purchased the 23.6" screen for $90 after a $20 mail in rebate. VERDICT: It is definitely a good price for the amount of screen real estate you get, but I was just extremely disappointed by the colors the monitor put out. For something touting HD and a great contrast ratio, the picture was just never right. Ultimately I returned it and was more satisfied paying more money for an IPS display.

The monitor is fine, has a bright clear display and connects via hdmi. I use it for word processing and other text applications connected to my laptop when Im working from home. Works great for my purpose. I have an earlier version of the same model. Rebate process is awful. You have to go to a website, enter codes, search your product, select your product, enter your info, decline spam emails, answer some survey questions, submit the claim, print out the sheet, sign the sheet, locate one from 7 different shipping stickers from the product box & cut it out with a box cutter, xacto or some other blade, print out the amazon receipt, and mail all if it in within 30 days of buying the monitor. At some point supposedly they will send me a $20 visa card for my efforts. Summary: If the price is competitive with other monitors WITHOUT the rebate, go for it. If there is a competing monitor for about the same price, Id buy that one instead. At this point, most panels are probably coming from the same factory so differences between brands is likely to be small. Update December 2017: I just got an email from Asus, my rebate is possibly being mailed soon 6 months after buying the monitor.

The Asus VS247H-P is a good budget monitor for console or pc gamers looking to get a monitor with crisp images, great contrast and depth in shadows and highlights, as well as a very quick response time. The monitor soon falls behind when you want to do anything more than quick performance. The color depth on the panel I received was subpar for a TN monitor at this price range, and for video and photo editing I began to have issues distinguishing colors and getting them where I needed. On the pannel I received I had non-linear saturation performance across all colors, and it was especially bad in yellows and violets. The yellows and violets also seemed to have the worst hue accuracy; I often found the yellows to quickly tint green or orange as I changed the hue settings even slightly. The colors on this pannel are vibrant and the great contrast ratio of the pannel adds to the performance, but I would not recommend this monitor to someone looking to any type of editing work. On the the other hand I can see who Asus is aiming this monitor at; the gamer who wants fast performance at a very low cost. This monitor offers a blistering response time of 2ms and I had no issues with ghosting or artifacts at any frame rate. The dynamic range of the monitor is impressive for the price and I was able to see detail in highlights and shadows with no issues. This is the selling point of the monitor in my opinion, and it does it very well. Pros of the Asus VS247H-P: - Affordable for a 23.6" pannel (its not really 24") - Bright, even backlight - Impressive contrast ratio and dynamic range - Good maximum saturation levels - Impressive response time (2ms) - Easy to navigate menus, good calibration ability - Lightweight, sturdy frame - Easy to wall mount Cons of the Asus VS247H-P: - Below average color performance for a TN pannel - Major issues with hue and saturation accuracy - Below average viewing angles for a TN pannel - Connections on back are perpendicular to the back, making it difficult to mount flush to a wall - The stand is a bit wobbly, could be improved One thing to know is that one monitor may not perform identically to another due to the nature of pannel manufacturing and design, so I may have ended up with a pannel that performs less than average. Even so, the color performance and especially accuracy on the Asus VS247H-P is not up to par with the rest of the monitors performance. Where this monitor shines is its performance for media like gaming and video. I would recommend this monitor to the average gamer looking to get good performance for their money. I would not recommend this monitor for the editor looking to get serious performance. Is it worth the price? Maybe, but if you want to get even more bang for the buck then I would recommend the very similar ASUS VS239H-P which is an IPS pannel only .6" smaller diagonally and offers the same contrast ratio, clarity, far better color performance across the chart, and an IPS pannel for outstanding color accuracy and viewing angles.

Update: Monitor began to flicker after about 16 months of use. Tried a new HDMI cable, reset monitor, changed refresh rate and tested the port on laptop. Sent the monitor back to Asus for repair. Thankfully, they covered the shipping both directions. Received the fixed monitor only to experience the same problem. Called support again. Start the process over. Asus is again covering shipping both directions. Seems like a lot of money for a $130 monitor. I have two other Asus monitors that I use at my main office. This one is used at my 2nd office location. Its a great monitor (at least when its not flickering). Jury out. 16 months and done?? Will provide another update when fixed again. I use this in an office setting and do not play games on the monitor. Its a great solution for business. Text in Word, Excel and my various software (including PDF documents) is clear. Its about 96% of what id like to see in a business monitor. I just switched to a HDMI cable and that seems to be a bit more clear. Im using this as my main monitor and my laptop as my other monitor. Im not sure about the quality of the speakers as I use my laptop for sound. Calibration is easy and I recommend using your calibration tool in Windows to get yours dialed in. Im using the standard mode, 47 brightness and 67 contrast. That is different from what I used before the HDMI. Its a good balance on my eyes - and Im staring at my screen for up to 16 hours a day (I run two businesses). I likely find a way to add another one of these. Im happy with the size (I wouldnt go bigger), value and quality. Yes, the base is a bit flimsy but how often do you touch your monitor?
