I am a computer engineer and work 8 hrs a day in front of 9 27"monitors... I own several Samsung monitors (S27D390 - PLS type) and now the VN279Q. Unhappy with the Samsung picture (slight 1/8" shadow on the right edge), I hoped the ASUS would be better. I was "just about" to return these because of the inferior text" quality and discovered the "VividPixel" setting (default-on-25). Turned it off and.... wow... this is a GREAT monitor. The black levels are spectacular, text is crisp, no perceived light bleed, CLEARLY superior to the S27s. Wish I found these before now..

This was purchased as a workflow enhancing second screen for my pc setup. As advertised, ASUS delivers on all fronts with vibrant enough colors and decent response time. The display port availability was a huge plus for my specific setup as well. The main reason I got this was for the amazing swivel stand it comes with that allows you to use the monitor vertically. Essentially this will help me look at lists on excel and scour reddit posts (among other things) way more effectively with the long portrait mode screen. Attached is a photo of the monitor on the left and how it fits in with the setup. I can see this being extremely useful for coding, web designing and basically anything that requires viewing of long lists for reference and comparison. Its definitely made my work setup more efficient while freeing up some desk space as opposed to having another horizontal monitor. A+ for workplace efficiency and would definitely buy again for this price which is basically a steal!

Like many other reviewers have said, the IPS panel in this monitor produces better colors, black levels, and a uniform picture when compared to other similarly priced monitors. I noticed very little (if any) light bleed from the sides or corners. Im extremely picky about that stuff. The build quality of the monitor itself is very good and feels sturdy, with sufficient input ports on the back. Youll either love or hate the flap that is non-removable on the back of the monitor, which covers the ports. It gives the back a clean appearance, but can be cumbersome to lift repeatedly when you have to insert or remove cables. Overall its not a big deal for most though. Now, for the reason Ive given this monitor a three star review. Asus quality of control. The monitor I received was brand new directly from Amazon, however, the panel had a clump of around five dead pixels all bunched up together in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. They were all black/purple and also caused some weird lighting effect around the surrounding pixels. I know theres always bound to be a lemon in the bunch with any electronics device you buy, but when it happens more than two times in a row.. thats just bad quality control. It seems that across many different brands, manufacturers (whether its LG or Samsung based panels) arent producing quality panels like they used to for monitors. This was my THIRD monitor to have bad pixels in a row. My first was an Acer IPS which on the 15th day of having it developed over three dead pixels scattered around the screen. That one was purchased from Micro Center and was luckily still within the return period. The second was another Acer, but a 27 inch with a VA panel. This one was purchased at Best Buy. While an excellent screen for movies and watching media based content, it also possessed dead pixels. All were white. I also noticed that compared to an IPS panel, the VA panel seemed a bit fuzzy and wasnt as sharp up close. And lastly was this Asus, from Amazon. I would have liked to try reordering another one from Amazon, but so much time had already been drained in trying the other monitors first that I ended up needing one as soon as possible by that point. Once I returned it to Amazon, I found a steal at Staples out of all places. I decided to try my luck a third time with Acer, purchasing a 27 inch IPS monitor for $120. The price went up to $240 the day after I purchased. So far the monitor hasnt given me issues, but time will tell if it does.

Ive purchased six of these and theyre 100%. Good clear monitors with consistency - which is important if youre using two monitors at your work station. I use one monitor with Display Port and one with HDMI and the look is virtually identical.

For its price (which was 236 for me), this is a really neat display. Its slim bezel, and VESA mount makes it a good choice for multiple display. Something worth noting is that this monitor utilizes AMVA+ panel instead of the more common AH IPS panel for monitors with wide viewing angles. Comparing to the IPS in similar price range I owned, it has darker and more uniform black (whereas many cheap IPS monitor has bleeding issue), but the color distortion from different viewing angle is more visible. If you are more tolerant to bland color than to bleeding, you should choose AMVA panel monitors like this one. (On the other hand, if you tolerant neither, you should go for a more expensive IPS) It has HDMI, DP and VGA port, and comes with VGA, DP and a DVI-HDMI conversion cable. It is a bit weird as to me for not including an HDMI cable.

I just ordered this monitor after two years experience with a previous ASUS (VS278q-p)— the original was given to me as a gift, and I really was planning to buy a much more expensive screen to pair with my Powerbook Pro/Retina laptop. After using the VS278, I realized I did not need the super high resolution and perfect color match of a very expensive display since I do 98% of my work for web. My reason for not buying another 278 was that I use it behind my laptop, so Im always putting it on a stand or a pile of books. This monitor has a built in tall stand, so I can see the full screen above my laptop without additional spacers. As for cables, this box includes an amazing array—but not the one I needed! If you need a simple HDMI-->HDMI cable like me, youll have to buy it because its not included! I prefer the smaller bezel on this screen, much nicer appearance overall, and very nice adjustable height stand. I doubt Ill use it in vertical mode, but its easy to accomplish and looks great. It would be pretty cool to have three of these side-by-side in vertical mode, but I dont really need that ;-) As an aside, this monitor lists a 5ms response vs the 1ms response on my VS278Q-P, but I honestly cannot detect this difference...but then, Im not a gamer. Im a graphic designer, and for me this works very well and saves me a small boatload of cash.

I purchased this monitor about 6 weeks ago when there were no reviews yet on Amazon. After seeing all the reviews for other ASUS monitors I felt that this was a safe purchase to make. So far I dont regret my purchase. Pros: -Its huge. In fact, it is so huge that it took a week for my eyes to adjust to a screen so large and close to my face. I actually had to push the monitor a little further away from me so ease my initial eye strain. But once my eyes adjusted Ive had no issues with the size. I primarily use this monitor with Windows 8/8.1 and I can view two documents side by side on the desktop and still have an app docked to one side of the screen. This monitor is really huge. -Beautiful display. This thing is gorgeous. I dont have any issues with light bleeding from the IPS technology nor do I have dead pixels. I also think the colors, contrast, and saturation are good too. The thin bezel is amazing and I dont think I could ever buy a display again with a thick bezel. -Input auto detection. If I use only 1 input at a time the monitor automatically switches to that input. When I have two or more inputs it is easy to switch via buttons. -Audio over DP, HDMI, or 3.5 mm jack: The speakers arent all that great, but they do work. It is very nice to have a monitor that can project a little sound when I need it. -Rotation, swivel, tilt, and pivot: They all work fluidly. Remember to give your cables enough slack when you pivot the screen. FYI: You need to tilt your screen before you can pivot it 90 degrees or else the corner of the display will bump your tabletop. Cons: Brightness: This isnt a con worth taking a star, but know that the default brightness on the display is extremely bright. I have my brightness turned to 0 (yes zero) and I still think it is a tad too bright at times -especially at night.

Pros: -Very bright -Colours are vivid and pop when calibrated right. -Stand comes with full range of ergonomics (yay, no more stacking books underneath). -VERY thin bezels -Supports multiple input sources -Minimal backlight bleed, no dead pixels Cons: -Not sure if its just my monitor but there is some slight yet noticeable pixel ghosting in games. Subjects behind a light background tend to leave a blurry outline trail in motion. Turning the "Trace Free" option in the monitors settings sloves the issues, however, it adds a CRAP ton of motion blur into the equation. -Out of the box the Display Port didnt work. Tried all 3 display ports on my gtx 970, but no signal recognized, Googled the problem, apparently the monitor needs to be fully discharged of all electricity, so I unplugged it for ~20mins. No problems since. Other thoughts: Monitor is great buy for the price, especially with all the ergonomic adjustments included, however if I had to choose another one again, Id probably go for a 1440p display. If youre like me, and have a 24" monitor before, if you really squint you can see the pixels a little at the same distance. Pushing the monitor back solves this. I believe at 27", 1440p is the more optimal resolution.

Monitor was great out of the box. Very thin bezel, colors look amazing, crystal clear images. No dead pixels at all. Has preset modes to choose from that will darken/lighten the image. You can also manually adjust brightness, color, sharpness settings. I didnt get into all of that as the picture looked just fine out of the box. I think I changed it to one of the preset modes and am very happy with it. Definitely recommend and am definitely buying 2 more! UPDATE: Got my other 2 in. Just as excellent as the original! Could not be happier with this purchase.

I like that this monitor has very accessible 100mm VESA mount holes on the back for mounting a Mac Mini or Intel NUC. I also like that this monitor has built in speakers. The speakers arent the greatest but they are better than no speakers. This is especially nice when using an Intel NUC or Raspberry Pi which has no speakers. I like to pair this monitor with a slim 1ft HDMI cable when I mount a computer on the back. One potential downside is that the ports are on the bottom and not super easy to use. This isnt an issue if you plug a computer in and leave it. If you travelled with this monitor and detached the cables often (like using it at trade shows), it would probably be easier to get a monitor with more accessible ports. Also, it is a bit of a pain to control volume but Im not sure Ive seen a monitor that makes it easy. It would be nice to have an old fashioned slider or dial.
