Hi. Ive been building gaming PCs for almost 20 years. Im an old, salty, experienced tech, and Id like to tell you about the ASUS VG278Q. This is a great display for any GAMER looking for a large, fast, 1080p, 144hz display. As you can see from my review photos, I also own the ASUS VG245H, so my review can apply to both displays. I purchased the VG245H to be my PS4 Pro/PC display. It has worked great for both the PS4 Pro and my PC for almost a year now, without issue. After building a new gaming PC for myself, I decided to go with the VG245Hs bigger brother. The difference between the two is the size of screen and most importantly, the refresh rate. The VG245H is a 24" display and features a 75hz refresh rate, while the VG278Q is a 27" display featuring a 144hz refresh rate. Both of these displays have a TN panel. If you are just a casual gamer and you like to do a lot of photo and video editing on the side, you might want to look at an IPS or VA panel. These TN panels dont have the greatest color or contrast, but they feature some of the fastest G2G response times available. So, if youre a gamer with a competitive nature, these are monitors that you should strongly consider. Try not to pay much too much attention to the reviews claiming that these displays are great for gaming but terrible for everything else. These displays can be tuned and calibrated for a great "all-around" computing experience; via the monitors OSD, and your GPUs control panel. While they will never be as vivid as an IPS or VA panel, they can still be good for day to day computing. So take a little time to dial them in before giving in to the idea that these display are "washed out" with "poor color reproduction". Pro tip: Make sure that the RGB range is set to FULL and not LIMITED in your GPUs control panel. Both displays come with the same sturdy, ergonomic stand. Who should buy these? Anyone looking for a fast, reliable, and affordable display. Serious gamers who value speed over contrast and color accuracy. Who shouldnt buy these? Anyone looking for rich, saturated colors and life-like reproduction of movies and photos. So it all boils down to what is most important to you. If fast and furious is what you are going for, this is the monitor for you. If eye candy and features are more important, then you should look elsewhere...and be prepared to spend more.

I bought this monitor for playing first person shooters on a console semi-competitively (Game Battles, MLG gametypes, scrimages, sweats, etc.). Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, and mainly Destiny. From what I understand, this is a sub-par monitor for PC gaming, as high-end PC gaming monitors go upwards of 144Hz and beyond. But for a console, with all games being kept at 60FPS or less, I figured this was a good buy based on the specs. Good size, under $200, and low input lag. Before this, I gamed on my familys 72" Samsung TV. I did a bit of research and I believe the input lag was something around 78.9ms. This is around 7-9ms (its advertised as 1ms, but you have to consider actual lag from the console to the monitor). I pulled it out of the box and it took maybe 30 minutes for me to figure out all the settings and get the brightness and balancing and things set up. I plugged in my Xbox 360 (yes, 360, screw the Xbox One), and started playing. I didnt notice a difference from the TV I was used to. I played quite a bit, and more of my shots started to hit and my movement felt a little better, but I chalked that up to a placebo effect. Then, I went back home for the holidays, taking my 360 with me and plugging it back into the 72" Samsung I mentioned earlier. GOOD LORD. It was unplayable. I noticed the input lag as soon as I was at the main menu of Destiny. I played two doubles matches with a friend on Destiny and could barely move or shoot accurately. It felt like I was moving through jell-o. I gave up playing over break after that. I go back to college on my ASUS, and low and behold, everything was perfect. Unnoticeable input lag, and movement and shooting was back to being crisp and precise. It was then that I noticed just how much of a difference this monitor makes. After that, I played lots of competitive matches and worked to improve as much as I could. When playing sweats on Destiny, I was making plays and hitting shots that wouldnt have been possible in a million years on a 72". I went from an above-average player to one of the top current ranked Destiny players in the world (currently fluctuating between #1 and #2, thanks to clanmates). Is this monitor magical? No. If youre a bad player, youre not going to magically get better with this monitor. But if youre like me, play on a semi-competitive level, youre a well above-average player, and want a good gaming monitor to maximize your performance, go with this. I know BenQ and ASUS are both very good for competitive FPS monitors, and to be honest, Im not an expert on monitors so I cant say which is better. But I can say that I am more than pleased with this monitor. TL;DR: No problems, beautiful picture quality, near non-existent input lag, and simple user interface make this, in my opinion, one of the best gaming monitors you can get for under $200. I have absolutely no complaints thus far (three months into owning it; I will update if any problems arise). HIGHLY recommend.

This review is for the VG278Q monitor. It is a HUGE improvement over my 60Hz monitor. I wont ever go back to anything below 144Hz. There arent any dead pixels or issues with the monitor thus far. I just received it in the mail yesterday and like many reviewers have said this thing is BRIGHT out of the box. After looking up some settings that other users have found success gaming with, I was able to find something that was pleasing to my eyes. I try to remember to update this in the future after Ive had some more use out of the monitor. If youre looking for a relatively affordable 144Hz monitor, look no further. I spent a decent amount of time researched various monitors before I decided to buy this one and I am extremely happy with my purchase. I have yet to play Fortnite with it but the quality of gameplay on CS:GO is so much more smooth compared to the old 60Hz Sceptre monitor I was using. Update: Still love the monitor. I found some settings on tomshardware forum that are to my liking. Here there are: Cinema Mode Contrast 83 Saturation 42 Color temp - User mode - All colors set to 83 Skin tone - Natural Sharpness 50 Trace free 40 ASCR ON (Adjusts brightness according to content - if you like your monitor to be brighter just turn this off and adjust brightness) I have the monitor hooked up with a DVI-Dual Link cable to my GPU. *Update 11-18-18* My monitor started to go black for a split second every once in a while. I did some research and found a few different avenues to trouble shoot. The first was the possibility that my DVI-D cable was bad. So I purchased a new cable, tested it, and the problem persisted, only more severely. So I returned that cable and went back to my original cable. I decided maybe I should try using the Displayport 1.2 cable. I purchased a VESA certified DP1.2 cable and plugged it in. I didnt experience any issues with the original screen going black problem. Now I had a new issue, the colors are TERRIBLE! Even with tweaking the settings that are necessary to get a good picture on this monitor, it did nothing! Ultimately I switched back to the DVI-D cable I was using originally. Hopefully the problem doesnt get any worse or persist at all. If it does Ill have to do some more research and development. I deducted 1 star from the monitors rating due to its inability to provide quality picture via the DP1.2 port. Also, when I alt+tab out of a game, everything is magnified when using the DP. This is not the case while using Dual Link. Hope this helps someone!

First week the picture quality and gaming experience was excellent. Video started to degrade after shut down/restart. Menu...factory reset was locked off. In order to reset had to unplug all cables than hold on/off button for one minute. On advice from factory support...answered e-mails promptly...no complaint. Sometimes had to do this two to three times in order for monitor to reset. Stuck in shampoo cycle...rinse repeat. Great picture quality until computer shut down/restart or turning monitor on/off then repeat... Still w/in 30day return. Last e-mail informed support I was returning. I really like this monitor and requested a replacement. Amazon was unable to replace and refunded money. Asus is a fine product line. In any product line a small percentage will have quality issues.

Ive been using this monitor since August. Its been great so far. Amazing picture quality in games, and great framerates with the 144hz. Also looks solid on videos and internet browsing. I could write a longer review about all that, but that isnt the point of this review. A couple of days ago (Mid January 2019) I got a graphics card update for my Nvidia gtx 1080. After the update a notification popped up that my monitor was G-Sync compatible and that I could activate it in Nvidia control panel. Sure enough it was now G-Sync compatible and even indicated in game that G-Sync was activated when I had the indicator toggled on. So this monitor is advertised as Free sync/Adaptive sync, but apparently also is now magically G-Sync compatible as well. They should probably change their product title. *Edit June 2019* Looks like Amazon has changed the description of this product to reflect that the monitor is in fact G-sync compatible after the GTX driver update back in January. Been almost a year since Ive gotten it, and still very happy with my purchase.

I recently split a one big bedroom into two rooms--one of them is my man cave. After researching and asking some streamers on Twitch about the best gaming monitor I could get, I ended up getting two of these -- one for my new gaming PC that I build and one for my PS4. I was not looking for something crazy with high specs because I dont make money off of gaming, plus I was on a budget. (Im a casual gamer who likes to enjoy my free time that I spent gaming) The monitors are easy to mount and setup. They come with everything you need to hook them up with any console. I limited myself to 60hz on the PC because I use HDMI cable. I might use the Display Port in the future just to test out the 75hz and see if there is any noticeable difference. The two speakers are nice to have but they are not that great. They are very handy if youre watching a quick YouTube video or something similar. But I use headphones if I want to watch a movie or a sports game. I highly recommend this monitor.. You wont regret this purchase.

I want to start out by saying that this is a great monitor. I had a 4k 40" Samsung TV with HDR I was using but I moved it to the bedroom because it had issues with any stationary images. Even the background of my PC which changes every 1 minute would stay "ghosted" for a little and fade. And the one that was the worst of the images was very problematic. So I had to get something. I wanted a monitor with 4k, HDR, etc. But I want to wait a bit for the technology price to come down and quality to stabilize. But I was not sure which monitor I wanted. A 1080p or 1440p. I figured I wanted IPS but TN was possible. And I was sure I wanted a full 8-bit panel. No 6 bit + frc. I did a lot of searching and found that this monitor, although TN, was full 8 bit. I figured I would take the chance on a TN panel even though I was using a Dell I borrowed from my mother-in-law to save my 4k TV. I was shocked by this monitor. The good and great: -2 HDMI -A hold in the back of the stand that has a cover for running the hdmi wires in a nice clean way. -EASILY adjustable stand that takes up minimal space -Colors and viewing angle: *this is big. This monitor, at least the one I received, produces fantastic colors. I compared it to photos I had worked on and printed and was getting a match. And the calibration was showing that it was producing fantastic colors as did the eye test. Viewing angles are awesome. From the sides it has a good distance until it shifts slightly reddish to me. Now, from the top down there is a major shift but really that is not an issue for me as I never stand and look down at any monitor. And the bottom view angles, when I tilt it up or have hit set up higher are amazing with very little color shift if you get a major tilt. Sitting at a desk this usually is never an issue. -Brightness is awesome. Now I use it in a darker room but even when it is bright in the room at times it looks very bright. I actually had to turn it down a bit. -The monitor has great controls. I really like the little stick that is on the back for navigating around and stuff. If makes switching inputs fast and easy. -Great response time and no blur at all in games. Cons/Bad stuff. -Viewing angles are not IPS good. Even though this does not bother me it can be a negative for some. Then again, if you are sitting in front of this or only at a little angle it is great so fine for me.

A week of use works perfectly, is a great monitor. Previously I had bought a monitor BenQZowie RL series and at 2 weeks of use began to show dead pixels, the settings is easay to use but a little compicated to reach the perfect settings colors. Youll notice a big difference when playing FPS games. In its exterior is simple but with a great style. 3 weeks from here I will update again. Update: It have been more than a month and still works at 100%. Im really satisfied, there is a high probability that I will buy a second one. Update 03/05/19: Almost have been 1 1/2 years from the buy. It works like the first day only detail have 2 pixels dead but they are really small that neither the notice. Only when its the screen black you can aproach really close and you can see the dead pixels, but for others parts like speakers work perfectly. A year and a half I can still say that I made a great purchase.
