This was a pretty good monitor out of the box, and the speakers were useless like most people say, and it gave me about 3 months of satisfying use. I even gave it a four star review. But I think Ive just changed my mind. When I first got the monitor it was hard to get the color scheme right but I figured I could tolerate a unusually bright picture if I was getting 24 inches of 1080p picture, right? Another minor gripe was this little ghosting effect that dark text on a white background had, but I dug through some other Amazon reviews and found a work-around for it, and it was only an issue when I was working with long papers and reports for school. So again, I tolerated the issue because having a big monitor was really nice and overall it was a decent machine. Unfortunately my desire to spend as little as possible has finally caught up with me. I have just recently noticed a vertical stripe of dying pixels about an inch wide running down the center of the monitor. The colors in the stripe are noticeably darker than the rest of the screen and there is some distortion with text. I doubt this is a factory defect because I have heard of others running into this issue. I would check to see if this is under warranty but Id rather buy a different, more reliable monitor than get another cheap one that will have all the issues Ive had with this. Shell out the extra 20-30 bucks to get a higher-end screen and save the 165 I just wasted on mine. In the end, you get what you pay for.

I purchased the ASUS VE228H 21.5" monitor for my wife to use with her Mac Mini. The monitor was very easy to setup since I only needed to connect a single HDMI cable from the Mac Mini to the back of the monitor. Since my wife uses her computer mainly for browsing the internet and email, we didnt need a high resolution, more costly or larger screen monitor. BENEFITS: - Built-in speakers eliminates need for external speakers that would take up more room on our desk (Single HDMI cable from Mac provides both video & audio) - 21.5" 1920x1080 resolution is more than adequate for web browsing and email - Adjustable screen presets - LED backlighting enables less than 1W power consumption in sleep mode; less than 30W in use. - HDMI input (HDMI cable not provided) - Responsive - Less than 8" deep (leaves plenty of desk space. VESA Mountable, too - 3-Year Warranty Overall, were very happy with the ASUS monitor and would recommend it for anyone that is looking for an affordable, LED monitor that has built-in speakers.

This is a fairly solid monitor for the price. Here are the things I have noticed with it. Pros: Matte finish on screen works well against glare. Color is good. Monitor turns on very quickly when either monitor or computer is powered on. Easy to assemble base or mount on mounting arm. Cons: Monitor has no height adjustment. Monitor sides and back are fingerprint magnets and scratch fairly easily. Bezel does not have a matte finish so it can sometimes reflect things. Acceptable but not great viewing angle. Short power cord (it might only be 4-5 feet? Power cords are cheap though.) Most of these cons are not a big deal for me because of where and how I am mounting them but to be honest its a little disappointing for an Asus monitor. I got lucky that the reflective bezel and lack of height adjustment arent affecting me. If you have a bit more money to spend or these cons bother you I would look into another model. I have several other Asus monitors that I prefer over this one. Because it is working well for me I will still give it 4 stars but keep the cons in mind.

I purchased this as a secondary monitor to use for reference photos while I draw on my main monitor. Right out of the box putting this on my mount was amazingly smooth, the downside? The SHORTEST cords Ive EVER encountered with monitor equipment. My previous monitor required the cables to be tied up or theyd droop, I cant even get these through my cord management system on my mount. They must free hang to go to both power, and the back of my computer and it was a stretch to get there. Secondly, this thing was obnoxious to calibrate, colors are still iffy but I have it configured to an acceptable setting. Plug and play wasnt the option here, as the colors out of the box were washed out and desaturated. Lastly and worst of all, viewing blacks, greys, and purple colors results in seeing severe red pixelation when viewing. My primary monitor works just fine and doesnt display any of these behaviors, which leads me to believe that its nothing to do with my hardware (EVGA Geforce GTX 1060). For overall usage for references I wouldnt say its a huge deal, but its aggravating on the eyes trying to focus. Contemplating sending this back... UPDATE: 7/22/2017 Its flickering on and off as it pleases with a No Signal message, pixelation of colors is still occurring too. HDMI Cable is brand spanking new and video drivers are up to date. Same issues plugged into the hubbies computer with a different cord. Naturally, the latest date for me to get product support through Amazon? July 14, its the 22nd. Go figure. Shouldve sent this back and got the display port version instead. *sigh*.

Great monitor at any price, worth purchasing. Ive bought many Asus monitors and other products over the years with zero to little issues. The first monitor delivered had dead pixels, bright pink, right in the middle of the screen. Called Amazon support and had a replacement sent via next day, showed up in perfect working order. True to other experiences with Asus products, absolutely lovely monitor. Screen is crisp, frame is responsive, no ghosting, great coloration. Movies, games, work, its a fantastic choice for any purpose. While I run external audio, I tested the speakers and for what they are the quality is good, with decent volume. Its really hard to beat this monitor in performance or price, one of the best deals Ive picked up in a long time.

I purchased this 21.5" monitor to use as a simple screen for my secondary computer. For the price, its the best bang for your buck. You get HDMI, DVI, and VGA all in one. Plus, it has a VESA mount which is important to me because I will be wall mounting it soon. The monitor came well packed inside the Asus box with ample padding. It comes with a VGA, DVI, and power cable. Unfortunately no HDMI cable is included, but they really arent much extra to purchase one separately and chances are you have one laying around. Installing the stand was just sliding it into the plate and screwing in the thumb screw. Very simple and easy. Upon turning it on I felt the colors were a bit washed out, however I turned the brightness down to 50% from the default 100% and it looks much better. The on screen menu wasnt too bad to use, and the buttons were easy to understand. Do note that this is a TN screen, so the viewing angles arent going to be great. However, for my purposes they are fine. Now if youve experienced a better monitor this will definitely look worse, however for the price it is honestly not too bad. Just dont expect it to blow your socks off, especially considering the price. It is just a basic, simple display.

I ordered this monitor first because I wanted a larger picture (my eyes dont work the way they used to) and I wanted to replace the HP 22" monitor that I had. I have an older system (desktop) that has only a VGA port. Since most of the newer systems and laptops have HDMI, that has become the defacto standard in computer monitors. This ASUS was one of several 27" monitors that popped up on the Amazon search for me. I compared them all and chose this one. I am glad I did. The base is a round bolt on affair and the bolt uses a outer ring to help tighten it with your fingers and then hide away. Works like a charm. Mine came with all the cables and chords. This was a straight swap for the 22", so I used all my existing cables and everything was connected and up and running in about 20 minutes. The menu is easy to navigate using the buttons on the bottom right of the outer screen and frankly my only problem was that when it came on it was too bright! I turned the brightness down to 45 and will probably turn it down some more as this thing is very bright. Nice picture with no ghosting that I can see. Excellent monitor for the price. I would by another one if I needed it.

I purchased two of these several years ago based on the inexpensive price at my local computer store. Two years later, I purchased two more of the exact same model so I could fill out my desk with four identical monitors. They are plenty bright, sharp, and have a great overall picture. My only complaint is that the viewing angle is severely compromised if looking off-angle - but not enough to warrant any major concern. I dont use the speakers - but Ive heard them before - and they are basically useless. I wouldnt recommend using them as your main speakers. Otherwise, product has been great!

I bought this monitor in an attempt to find a similarly sized 3rd monitor to fit next to my Asus 4k ROG monitor (MG28U). All I needed was a cheap 1080p monitor that would fit on a monitor mount with the same size or bezel that closely matches my 4k for aesthetics. My rating is based purely on use case and picture quality. So Ill start with the bad. I bought the monitor presumably new and the box came damaged. At first sight I figured probably from shipping. Upon opening the box I noticed this monitor was quite clearly used and probably a refurb. The audio cable wasnt in a package and just stuffed in the box with the other cables. There were greasy handprints all over the glossy bezel and on the screen itself. I cleaned that off and proceeded to install said monitor and take a look at the picture. There is a dead pixel all the way on the top closer to the left, and a damage spot dead center on the top. Not a good first experience, but I digress. I bought the monitor knowing it was glossy with cheap plastic. Not a deal breaker, but annoying nonetheless. On the flip side to all the bad the picture is actually quite good for a TN panel. When sitting next to my factory calibrated IPS panel the colors are vivid, there isnt a whole lot of backlight bleed, and the blacks are pretty respectable for a cheaper TN monitor. Having HDMI, DP, VGA, and DVI inputs is pretty awesome. I have used this monitor for my VR rig, at a LAN, on my streaming PC, and even used the VGA input for my 98 box before. For 1080p gaming and those that may want to purchase this for your main monitor it seems the 2ms GTG is accurate to the best of my ability to notice next to my MG28U which is 1ms. I havent actually tried to use the built in audio, but when playing music through it real quick it isnt too bad. Its a monitor speaker though so dont expect anything crazy. The PiP function is kinda cool, albeit IMO a tad pointless. I also like that the buttons are on the bottom for those of us using monitor arms, unlike my MG28U which has them on the back. Super annoying. The only real big deal here is the viewing angle. If youre looking right at the monitor it looks great. Start deviating from that perfect angle and you can see the picture wash out. You can see this in my picture below (product on the right). That is to be expected from a cheaper monitor though and for the money its a really good monitor for those on a budget. My only advice is set your picture preferences right off the bat and dont leave it on default. With all things said I only knocked it one star because it is a pretty good value for the money, my experiences aside.

So I picked up this 27in monitor about 3 days ago (1 day late). So far I am blown away by it. I got it for my (non gaming) PC, aswell as my Xbox One S. I had previously been using a 42" Vizio TV. I assumed for $175 ($190 after tax) that I would get something halfway decent, but what I got was much better than expected. Its a 1080p 60hz monitor. A lot of people are snobby about that and just HAVE to get 1440p 144hz displays. I dont have a need for that, nor do I have the money for that. This thing may not have those bells and whistles, and but let me tell you, the picture looks wonderful. First thing was hooking it up to my Xbox and starting up Battlefield 1. This game looks literally twice as awesome on this monitor compared to my TV. Colors are vibrant, textures just look better, its great. Heck, even the menus looked significantly better! Another thing I noticed right off the bat was the response time. It claims 2ms GTG and I believe it. I feel like Im more in control on FPS games, racing games, and really everything. You see people buying Ben Qs with 1ms response time for 2x the money. I see no need unless you are a competitive gamer that does tournaments for cash or something. This thing is plenty quick enough, and I genuinely felt myself winning more gunfights than before. This thing also has built in speakers, and to be honest theyre just mediocre. However, for $175 most monitors dont even have speakers, and these are good enough for basic stuff. I have a headset, aswell as a surround sound system hooked up to it, so I dont even need them, but if you had to use them theyd work until you could afford an upgrade. As much as I love this display, I have to touch on a couple flaws. Firstly, Ill start with the brightness. This thing is f***ing bright. I mean it hurt my eyes to where I had to take a break. The thing is, when you drop the brightness to a comfy level, the picture just doesnt look as vibrant. Its really a shame, although my eyes have adjusted to it fairly well now. Next up is the text. It just doesnt look as sharp as other displays. Ill kind of excuse this one because I got the 27in and its 1080p, and also because some adjustments in Windows mostly cleared it up. Nonetheless, its still worth mentioning if someone plans on using this for long periods of reading/typing. The smaller size may work better for you in that case. All in all I give this a 4/5. I never give anything 5 stars simply because nothing is perfect. I wish I could give it a 4.5 because it deserves it. If youre looking for a cheap gaming monitor, this is what you want. I highly recommend it.
