I purchased this item and the first monitor came and it would constantly flicker and make a strange sound and both screens would go black and everything on this new 2nd monitor would move back to my primary laptop monitor. It was very frustrating and annoying and would happen once every 10 minutes at least. I reached out to AOC customer support and they said it could be the USB cord. Cord came and still had same issues. I then had to pay $99 for a new one to be shipped out (they did pay for the return shipping). Once I received it, I would ship back the broken one and get my $99 refunded. Well, the "new" replacement monitor came and was already broken! The screen looked cracked so I called them and they shipped out ANOTHER replacement monitor. Meanwhile, I sent back the 2nd broken monitor that arrived. Waited for my 3rd new replacement monitor. This one showed up and had some issues still (would be plugged it and it would be a black screen and have an icon telling me to plug it into the monitor). Would also do the same flickering, but it was once a day instead of once every 10 minutes. I figured I would just deal with it to avoid the hassle of returning it. So this morning, I wake up and it looks like the attached pictures. I emailed AOC and they said that it looks like it was damaged, etc. and that isnt covered by their warranty. I havent even traveled or moved this monitor once since Ive had the replacement. Not to mention, the monitor is lightweight and really isnt very protected. I could see how traveling with this monitor could easily cause it to have damage. I would suggest getting a warranty that provides damage protection as AOC could care less. I need to purchase a 2nd monitor now again after wasting all of my time and $100 and I am looking to go with another brand if anyone has any suggestions. I usually do not write product reviews, but I am not happy with AOC or this purchase.

Update: this does not work at all with my work computer. I couldn’t get it to work with anything so I ended up trashing it. I needed a smaller monitor for working at home. I have an actual dell monitor and it was just too big and bulky for my desk, and I like being able to move around so I got this. Its good for what I need. I dont need anything fancy so for me this works. I have had it for about 4 days and used it 2 days working from home. This is being used with a dell latitude e5470. Here is how it earned 3 stars: 1. Its light and very easy to pick up with my laptop and move rooms 2. The screen is clear enough for my needs (email, excel, general business support needs.) 3. The size is just right for my space. 3. It works with my newer MacBook which I could never find any monitor to work with it. Here are the reasons I wont give 5 stars 1. The kickstand wont allow you to let it stand up completely straight up and down, its always at an angle. (I Rigged up a piece of foam to rest the stand in to make it mostly straight). 2. I started noticing when I go to drag and drop emails the slight flicker (not horribly visible/distracting, but it makes it feel like the mouse/pointer is cutting in and out). I had to move my email app to my laptop monitor (which sucks because we use lotus notes and it takes a lot of screen space).

Ive twice the made the mistake of buying from this company but NEVER AGAIN! The first one pixilated to uselessness after a few months of use, and the manufacturer blamed user error for the problem, claiming I must have dropped it. Because I urgently need an external for my work, I bought another newer model. It came in a nice travel case which I used when I took it out with me in my briefcase. This time I treated it with TLC. But the second one also went dead. When I filed a warranty claim and sent it back tech again claimed "user physical damage." I explained how Id use it with great care, and they simply didnt give a $#%*%. Asked to escalate the claim and the clerk who did intake emailed back "This is the highest level of escalation to process your case. Based on the evidence provided through the pictures, the pattern given by the LED panel can only indicate that it was caused by damage done by impact." This is simply not a portable product. Buy from a different company.

I have the older model of the AOC portable monitor, but the USB 3.0 connector is always disconnecting. I thought this was the perfect replacement since the USB-C connectors are so much more robust. I was a bit hesitant because the description seemed to hint at (but not be explicit about) this monitor not working with USB 3.0 connectors like the older model does. Got the item, downloaded and installed all drivers including the latest DisplayPort drivers. Nothing seemed to work. The monitor would light up, but then say "No Signal". Called the manufacturer, and they affirmed that this monitor will not work unless your laptop actually has a USP-C connector. Im only slightly disappointerd, since I took the chance and it doesnt work, but the description should have been much clearer regarding laptops that have no USB-C connector. I just wanted everyone to know so that they dont make the same mistake. Thanks to Amazons excellent return policy, Im returning the item *UPDTATE* This is my first return to Amazon. The process was easy - printed the label and took the item to the Amazon Location, only 20 minutes away from the house. Stopped at the grocery store on the way home, and by the time I got home, the return was acknowledged and my refund had posted. - Thanks, Amazon!

*Update 2* Wow, I could actually power this via a SINGLE USB 3.0 slot from my laptop. I thought it would either reduce the native resolution to a lower one but it didnt or that the refresh rate would be lowered but that wasnt the case either. I guess it depends on the USB port youre connecting this to. Whatever the case I wouldnt bet on it being powered by a single USB port all the time so its best you set aside 2 ports just in case. Rating remains the same as there are still other remaining cons. *Update* Looks like you can change the brightness and contrast. There are no physical buttons to be able to do so. Youll need to use the DisplayLink software in order to adjust under settings. Its not granule adjustments but its better than nothing. Ive updated my rating from 3 to 4 stars because of this as this was one of my major complaints. Original review: First, lets get on with cons: -pretty bad mouse lag; should be ok for spreadsheets and light web browsing though but I wouldnt play any action games on it -no way to control brightness or contrast; this is really bad for when you want to work in dimly lit areas or you feel its too bright plus being able to control the brightness will reduce power consumption as well which is important if all youre using to power this is through the 2 USB ports on your laptop -dual usb port require for power and the additional power only cable end is only 4-5" from the data connector end which means unless you have two free USB ports very close to one another, youll either need a USB battery pack or a USB extension cable (a right or left angled one would work best depending on which side of your laptop the power end is supposed to be connected to) -big bezels all around which results in a much bigger physical profile -thickness is an issue; its thicker than ultraportable laptops and even some that arent ultraportables like my Dell Lattitude E7450 -horrible colors which cant really be adjusted, most people wont really care so this wont be an issue for most Now for the pros if I havent scared you away already lol: -very bright but as mentioned earlier, non-adjustable -can actually be powered by portable USB port battery packs, if it doesnt power on even when you have the power only cable plugged into the battery pack, unplug both and plug in the battery pack first then the other end to your computer -1080p res while still being bus powered though 2 USB ports must be used. Lower res portable monitors can be powered by a single USB port. -comes with a case for storage and transport. While its padded, you would still have to be careful regarding the side of the display screen -ok priced, not cheap cheap but affordable enough for those who are looking for a portable 1080p USB bus powered monitor under $150. -light enough to store in a laptop backpack, probably wont fit a messenger style laptop bag though

I originally purchased this from Amazon, but their in-house delivery service botched the delivery and I never received it. I found it on sale at another on-line store that uses traditional delivery services. That being said, it is a great monitor. Make sure you have a Thunderbolt 3 or a USB-C port that supports ALT mode. I have tested it with a both a touch bar MacBook Pro and a PC with Thunderbolt 3. It was plug-and-play on both laptops. The image looks great. The colors are crisp. The dust cover is magnetic and doubles as the stand. Make sure you use the magnet to hold the monitor in place. The only negative thing that I have to say about it is the "one button does all". It can be a bit of a challenge to change the settings. If you are accustomed to having a dual-monitor setup, this is great for the road warrior.

The product works great 1) cable - it came with a 3ft and needed 6ft minimum. Save yourself returning cables that dont work, calling AOC <they dont have any length longer than 3ft> and use the following cable: TIEGEM USB Type C 3.1 Gen 2 Cable USB C to USB-C Cable. (Gen2 is required) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F36KZCD 2) My usage: Client presentations <web, pdf, documents, no games>. The client has their own view at a comfortable distance. No more crowding around one screen. 3) Size: perfect, as it is large enough for easy viewing and fits in my existing e-bag laptop backpack. 4) Magnetic monitor stand doubles a screen protector and can place the monitor in portrait or landscape. 5) 90 degree adapters can help with cable strain. 6) Battery life. I have a thin and light laptop that still had 25% life after 4hrs. Definitely portable. With recommendations from other reviews, I purchased a protection plan. Cons: None Ive found.

product works great on my laptop but I wanted to use also with a desktop. so I bought a type c pci express card. actually bought 2 different type with pcie x4 and pcie x1 port. both didnt work. I called AOC asked why and they have no idea. I asked about what type of type c is used but they have no idea. I asked about what voltage does it take or at lease what amp. their answer was no ideal. Now, i got stuck with the monitor because it has pasted return date. So i bought a XPS 8920 which have type c built into the motherboard. I crossed my fingers but didnt work. i have no idea how this monitor works. i plugged into Samsung galaxy s8 and worked which i dont need. i bought many different type c cables from amazon. Tried them and all didnt work. so whoever has this monitor dont lose the cable you cant find it anywhere. Everything I like but cant make it work with other computers. so far worked on Dell XPS 15 Laptop -worked Dell XPS 8920 Desktop- dont work Apple Macbook Pro - Worked Samsung Galaxy s8 - worked Dell Optiplex 780 MT with pci e card didnt work except for above problem, rest is good.

The USB-C model is a wonderful monitor, and a godsend if you want to do actual work while away from your office. As long as your laptop supports DP Alt-mode over USB-C, it should truly be plug-and-play. Just one cable for both the video signal and the power. No weird drivers necessary - its just a DisplayPort monitor. And the magnetic cover/stand is a brilliant design - it sticks to the front of the monitor for transport, and to the back to use as a stand. It works for both portrait and landscape mode, and has a large adjustment range for tilt angle. I wish my tablet PCs came with a stand this useful. Please note, Amazon bunches similar products together and lists them as different versions of the same product. But the different versions here are very different. The USB-2 version requires drivers which seems to be the source of many problems (and the main reason the rating is as low as it is). This isnt an issue with the USB-C version.

Follow-up Post: This is a follow up to my original post (below). We have determined that this monitor is fine for the average joe who just needs an additional screen, but not so much for the person who needs higher end screen resolution. My daughter is in an architecture program that requires computer hardware with high resolution, and this didnt work for her needs at all. I did adopt it at home on my own computer and it works fine. The difference is that the resolution i use works well (1366x768) but she used a higher screen resolution for her work and this monitor wasnt able to adapt to that resolution. Overall its good as long as you arent doing anything that requires high resolution. First Post: Verdict is still out on this one. I bought it for my daughter at college. When it came it looked perfect. Lightweight. Compact. Carrying case included. USB attachment that also powers the screen. BUT...it has been a few weeks and my daughter still hasnt gotten it working yet. Apparently it is not plug and play, and the software drivers come on a CD. My daughters laptop - like most new laptops - has no CD drive. So she is currently searching the web for the software drivers. Im willing to upgrade this review if we get the thing working. Disappointed that it is not an easy plug and play device.
