I installed the monitor only to discover a vertical line running from top to bottom on the screen. At first I thought it was a setting but after trying all of the settings I decided to hook up the monitor to a different PC to see if it was a hardware issue, but the line was still present. I contacted Amazon support who was extremely helpful but all they could do was refer me to Acer. Unfortunately, the contact info Amazon gave me for Acer is completely out of date. The repair locations no longer exist and the Acer support number was invalid, Im not sure why Amazon doesnt verify material like this with its vendors. I found the Acer support number online and called them. After having to repeat the serial number through their automated system, I was finally able to tslk to a person who again asked for the serial number to verify the warranty. After that I was put through a bunch of inane personal questions (full name, address, phone number, etc.) not relevant to the issue, since he had already verified it was under warranty. In the end, all they needed was an email address to email me the warranty repair address so I can ship the monitor back at MY expense. Needless to say this will be the LAST Acer product I buy. I understand that products fail occasionally but putting customers through unnecessary red tape and then forcing me to pay for the shipping on a item under warranty makes it clear this is not a company I want to do business with.

I bought 2 of these monitors for a dual monitor set up. The buttons did not work on 1 of the monitors. I filed a complaint with acer and they advised I had to pay for the initial shipping to them, which was approximately $90 to pay UPS for packaging and ground shipping. Acer refused to reimburse me even though it was not my fault the monitor didn’t function properly. The cost to ship it to them was nearly the cost of buying a new monitor.

I ordered this monitor specifically because I thought, "Great! A monitor with built in speakers. Now I wont need to buy speakers immediately for my new computer." However, to my dismay, I apparently selected the monitor WITHOUT the OPTIONAL audio cable. So now I need to go to the store and find an audio cable (or speakers), as well as a different HDMI cable as I just took the one from one of my game systems to function in place of the cable the monitor came with (the basic cable it DID come with will not function with my desktop). Other than that I like the monitor. Its nice an bigger than anything Ive ever had. Certainly does the trick. Ill update my review once I go out and buy an audio cable and get to experience the audio quality. JUST BE CAREFUL WHICH OPTION YOU PURCHASE. I dont see why they wouldnt include an audio cable with every monitor... UPDATE: After going to the store to get an audio cable and messing with this for more than 30 minutes thinking it was possibly something I was doing wrong, I now realize that I was sent a monitor that DOES NOT have speakers. It seems that now I must go BACK to the store to buy SEPARATE SPEAKERS. I normally would not get this worked up over a mistake made when making an amazon purchase; however I literally only chose this monitor for the fact that it supposedly came with built in speakers. Again, be careful which version you get, as apparently I chose the wrong one and am now literally paying for it.

Warning before you buy: This monitor has a well known backlight bleeding problem that appears to be present in everyones purchase of this model monitor. Its still a good deal if you are viewing an image with full color borders but if you are watching a show with dark corners around the edge in a dark room its pretty apparent. I think I can get over this problem as the price was so loe, however.

I bought 2 about 2 years ago for my first gaming build as my side monitors. So far Ive had to replace or buy new ones because all of the seem to have dying pixels, the screens start to flicker and are unusable. Acer makes you pay for return shipping to replace or fix the monitor. Which is ridiculous because it costs like 20-30$. But after getting pissed at them, they agreed to cover all shipping costs. I will be getting different brand monitors once these ones die out too.

Install Flash Player I would rate this monitor as a 2.5/10. Ill list the pros and cons then follow up with a more detailed explanation. Pros: -Clear and vivid screen -Good looking monitor Cons: -Began flashing on and off when in use (6 months after purchase) -Acer makes you pay for shipping for repairs... even during warranty period -Buttons on monitor are too small and unmarked Initially I needed a second screen for my laptop. After looking around for a while it seemed like nothing else really compared for this price point. I order the Acer R240HY. At first it was fantastic. When it works (note that phrase), it looks great... crisp and clear. However about 6 months after purchase it began to act strange. It flashes off and on randomly when trying to use it (see attached video). The screen going black every few seconds makes the monitor utterly useless So, I call up Acer support and this is what the support tech tells me "unplug and re-plug it in... did that work?... no... ok, thats all the guidelines we have... youll have to send it in for repair" As it turns out youre responsible for the shipping... let me rephrase that ... YOU HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE YOUR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT FIXED. Based on that alone (let alone the fact that its a defective piece of equipment) I cant recommend this monitor. When it works it works great... but what does that matter if it breaks after 6 months?

I figured I would wait awhile before making this review. Its for the 23.8 inch R240HY bidx I feel I should mention the size because Amazon has this completely stupid policy now of merging reviews for what they think are similar products, so you never know if youre reading the review for the product you actually are researching, or the larger or smaller model with may or may not be similar in reality. In my opinion this monitor has good color quality, blacks are black enough, it can be tuned to be not too bright/blue (although most people seem to love screens as bright and blue as technically feasible). Its great for gaming, the screen looks larger than it is because the bezel is small. Its very thin. No dead pixels (my last 1080p Acer had one stuck red pixel, this was ages ago though). I have hopes it will last longer than my last one because of the LED backlighting. Main complaint is ghosting or trailing when scrolling on websites with dark font and colors that arent white. Theres a site I visit more often than others, and when scrolling the text ghosts pretty bad, its black text on a kind of blue/grey background and the ghosting is basically negative, as in it ghosts light almost white under the black text when scrolling. Hard to explain I suppose but even a literally ancient HP LCD monitor I have from Windows Vista era does not do this. Really griping I suppose and if you want consider this a five star review. I just dont give five stars unless I have no complaints. Acer is always a great value brand if youre willing to consider it might not last forever. Great specs and features for the price as always VESA mount would also be nice, if just so that I could get a second of exact same model for portrait use as a second monitor

I bought two of these monitors. I hooked them up using the HDMI port to my PCs video card. The VERY FIRST thing I noticed with both monitors is their constant flashing on and off. The power stays on, but they seem to keep refreshing their connection to the PC. Ive tried different cables. This did help with one monitor, but the monitor connected strictly with the HDMI cable just will not stay on/lit/connected. Tapping or bumping the monitor or giggling the cord or connection doesnt change anything. The monitor will stay on for 30 minutes to an hour, and then go through this...refreshing or w/e it is where the screen flashes on and off over and over for about 10 minutes...then it stops for a length of time, and starts back up again. Going to switch it to DVI like I did the other one, and I expect it will help. I also read that cables come with these monitors but neither of them had any but the power supply. Wonder if this is part of the issue.

PROS - Great value for the money - Slim screen (6mm thick) - Nice image quality and colors - The screen does not get warm after a long use - No ghosting while playing games CONS - Besides its 4ms response you can see ghosting when move the mouse agaist white backgroud (web browse, read text on white background) - Uncomfortable monitor configuration menu - It show a little lack of homogeneity across the entire screen - It shows light leak when the monitor is totally black Bottom Line: My version came with minimal but perceptible light leak, cool tone on the bottom left and warm tone in the bottom right. Of course this is only seen when the screen is black but its not a deal breaker, you will not perceive this when you normally use the monitor. In general this monitor is a good purchase. Update 1: After a few weeks of use I like this monitor but it does not have a true 178 viewing angle. If you sit in front of the screen theres is no problem but as soon you stand up youll notice the degradé.

Dont buy this model. I purchased two, and after only a year of light use they both are nearly unusable. After spending the money to ship to their repair center (a shipping label isnt provided), I got the panel back not repaired with a scratch on the casing. Spend the extra $20 and go with a better brand, you wont regret it.
