This laptop is for people who need to be able to whip out their computer and type on the fly. I cannot stress enough that the Surface Laptop 2 has THE BEST LAPTOP KEYBOARD on the market. If youre an impulsive writer, go to a lot of meetings, or need to take fast-paced notes in school, this is absolutely for you. The incredible (and I mean seriously incredible) display and touch screen are a huge bonus. You will, however, compromise on performance. The small form factor seriously limits the thermal integrity of the machine, meaning that whether you try to pack an i7 or an i5 in there, youre going to get some serious throttling. This does, however, also make for incredible battery life. I highly recommend the i5 8Gb config. You absolutely do not need the i7 model, as the form factor significantly limits its performance. If youre looking for something that can handle more intensive workloads, this is not the laptop for you. Its also ABSOLUTELY not for gaming. Overall, the average user wont regret this one. Its extremely versatile, and itll get you through a few years of school. Expect to depreciate over 3 years if youre buying it for your business. I love the thing, and Im really picky about computers.

I gave this a four out of five just due to a lazy thing that Microsoft could easily fix. The power cord for this laptop is way shorter than it should be... like prohibitively short. The cord from the wall to the brick makes it hang in the air and tugs the charger out constantly. I am currently looking into where to buy an extension for this. That is only an extra $10-$15 and isnt that big of a deal... but if you are dropping $900+ dollars on a laptop, should you really have to do that? My other complaint is the lack of USB-C ports. I knew this going into buying the laptop, so I am not going to complain about it too much. But I purchased my Spectre three years ago and it had two USB-C ports at the same price point... it is just really odd Microsoft hasnt added at least one yet. Besides that the laptop is amazing. I went from a Macbook, to an HP Spectre and now to this. I will say that I think the Surface Laptop is my favorite of the bunch. I wasnt sure Id like the cloth like fabric around the keyboard, but it is great. It looks good, runs smooth and has an amazing screen. The speakers on this laptop are also tremendous. Ill definitely be sticking with the Surface Laptop line, especially if they fix the two issues I listed above!

I searched for a laptop for school for several weeks, combing through hundreds of reviews and types. I decided on this one based on overall price point and reviews. Overall, this is an awesome laptop. It charges really fast and the battery life is pretty good. I love that it starts right up and recognizes your face as soon as you open it. It is durable and super fast. I use it mainly for taking exams, Microsoft office, and other things for school. I love the draw feature on it especially for lectures. You don’t really need the stylus pen. Overall, I have been pleased with this laptop and would definitely recommend it especially for the price point. It is super quiet and light weight as well!

Honestly, this is the best laptop Ive ever purchased but I did only had it for 4 months. Ive had no issues with it and the keyboard is amazing! The touchscreen is also flawless and my laptop never slows down and honestly it is just amazing. I was scared to purchase such an expensive laptop because there is a chance you may recieve a laptop that is defective but so far no issues so Im quiet happy w/ my purchase. I do have to say that when you purchase your laptop make sure you read what that seller is selling and their reviews on that product. Fortunately for me the seller I picked are the Toll brothers and they had such great reviews on their electric products. Great customer service on their part and the laptop arrived safely. Thank you so much, couldnt be any happier!

I dont know if I can find enough positive things to say about this laptop. Yes, I know that it does not have any type C USB ports let alone a single Thunderbolt 3 port, but this laptop is really the fastest, best looking, and most functional piece of hardware Ive owned. Aside from my $3,000 gaming PC that I built myself, this is the fastest machine in the house. Again, it lacks in I/O, but I havent had a need so far to plug anything into it. I bought the Surface Arc Mouse thinking that I would use it and I have only used it for a few minutes here and there. The track pad is so intuitive, accurate and responsive that I really just dont need a mouse when I use this laptop. The keyboard is AMAZING. I mainly use this for work, and I must say I have not had a more comfortable all day typing experience on ANY laptop. I would recommend this laptop to anyone who needs a lightning fast machine for work/school that can last all day under load with a killer battery, and still look amazing while doing it. Ive already gotten several compliments on the look of the machine from my colleagues. Well done, Microsoft. Well done.

Im a graduate student, and do some blogging. I was looking for something super fast that I could use to multitask throughout the day, and wouldnt slow down with many tabs open for my research papers. Overall, the computer is okay. Pros: The user interface is very intuitive and in line with standard PC design. It was easy to customize my settings, and the screen is great. The screen resolution is fantastic, as is the keyboard setup. The size of the screen and weight of the computer make it very mobile, which is a big pro. I also like that it has what I call a "normal" USB port, so I dont need to worry about a converter. The Meh: The battery life is fine. Lasts me about 6 hours of active use. I honestly thought it would be better than that, but its still an upgrade from my Surface Pro 2, which I had worn into the ground. Only 1 USB port. Thats all I need, but may be a bummer for others. The Cons: My main complaint is with responsiveness of the computer. I often right click on Word, or another program, expecting it to show my most recently used documents. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Dragging emails to different folders with the mousepad? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Clicking on an app once at the bottom of the screen to bring it to the forefront? Sometimes it works, sometimes I need to minimize everything else just to show the program I want. Ive never had such a hit-and-miss computer when it comes to reliability, and that delay and inconsistency drives me absolutely bonkers. If it just wasnt available, I would find a work around, but the sudden onset of things not working that seemingly resolves itself at some unspecified time is the worst. Considering the price, and the specs I went with, I honestly expected way more for my money. I would recommend going with the Surface Pro for a cheaper price.

I bought this a couple days ago and was very excited when it came in. Had read up on reviews through amazon and reddit and thought I knew what to expect. However, the alcantera fabric gets too dirty for my liking. Its comfortable, its stylish, but its not durable. After 2 days of EXTREMELY light use, i could see my palm prints in the fabric. I used a damp paper towel and they came off. However, I dont want to worry about that every day for the rest of the laptops life. The battery life was also meh. I was expecting a good 10 hours of light browsing, I got around 5. The price of this product is pretty steep and I couldnt justify it, taking the things above into consideration. Back to laptop hunting!

Bought for my wife who is in nursing school. It’s fast and does everything she needs. It’s light weight so she can carry it around with her books all day. The price was cheaper than Best Buy and was delivered very fast.

I loved my 1st Gen Surface Laptop (i5 processor, 8gb ram, 128gb solid state) and I was pumped to try the 2nd gen with i7 processor and double the memory: Unfortunately, I found it disappointing. It seems to have less battery life, is more laggy, and definitely NOT any quicker. (I’m using it for business purposes with 3-5 programs @ a time: word, excel, adobe, chrome- > 5 tabs). The 2nd gen did not seem to out perform the 1st in anyway, thus not worth the additional cost. Also, it seemed more sensitive to hot and cold. Ultimately, I had to return because (the icing on the cake was that) in 3 weeks I was never able to get the 2nd gen to back up from my external hard drive- maybe I got a lemon. TL;DR 2nd gen is not worth the $, save it for the next unit with (hopefully) actual/material upgrades. Also be aware that SURFACE LAPTOPS WERE NOT MADE TO BE REPAIRED. Thus, if there is a problem outside the 1yr warranty- you can’t fix it. You’ll have to buy new or pray that Microsoft will side with you on the defects *cough, not likely*.

I purchased this laptop to do a variety of tasks, including writing posts for blogs, as well as some design work in Illustrator and Photoshop. Typing on the keyboard is nice, nice level of noise and a pleasant amount of travel. I love the feel of the Alcantara fabric. It does make me cautious that my hands are clean since Im unsure how well itd hold up if Im harsh to it. The square-ish screen dimensions of the Surface gives you a lot more screen space, but if you notice motion blur on monitors be cautious, the panel in this seems to have a slow response of some kind. Trackpad is solid, touchscreen is as well, and the speakers sound good. Fan noise is near non-existent unless you stress the machine, which if far enough can make it sound like a jet. Wish the charger was a block on the wall like you find with Apple machines of the Lenovo I owned previously, the portion between wall and power brick should be longer because it isnt long enough. All around a great machine, just short of perfect, but an absolute buy.
