I think of my notebook computer as a lumberjack thinks of their chainsaw - a tool I use daily with every aspect of it becoming important over time. Some would say Im a bit obsessive, but I believe something I use for nearly 12 hours a day, whether productive work or entertainment, is worth the extra effort. I pre-ordered this latest version of the LG gram and Ive used it hard ever since it arrived. For me, it replaced a top-of-the-line $3,000 Razer Blade 14". Prior to that I had a $2,700 Macbook Pro with bootcamp. In 35 years of using computers, this is the first review Ive ever written for a notebook computer. Key Considerations: 1. Very Fast - boot-up, sign-in, program loading are all faster than any other notebook computer. Im not the most patient person so speed is key to me. 2. Thin/Light - Im amazed at how handy it is that this computer is radically light and thin. 3. Battery - The battery life is so good its not a worry, ill use it for a couple hours and its down mabye 10% or so. 4. Screen/Keyboard - These are both excellent. While 1080p resolution doesnt sound impressive, it is a perfect fit for this size computer and Im a guy who loves huge curved monitors. Some people think more pixels is important for a 15.6" screen but in this case it is a matter of less is more - by going 1080 the computer is more snappy and drains less power and saves some money. I never used the reader mode before but I love it now - I have no idea how I made it when I let me screen blast my eyes with too much blue light! Put this computer on reader mode next to any other computer with any other screen and youd likely never turn off reader mode (thats whats happended to me). Backlight for keyboard comes in handy and keyboard is great for typing. Numeric pad is good and fits well with the computer layout - nothing is wasted. Surprises: 1. Im shocked by how fast the fingerprint scan is - 1/2 a second login to Windows at a touch, you cant live without this feature once you experience it. The IT expert at our company had to change some settings so I can use it versus typing in a password - it is surprising to me how fast fingerprint scan works for login. 2. Every once in awhile Ill barely hear the fan turn on, the strange thing is the barely audible fan turns on when it doesnt seem like Im taxing the system. The computer has never really been hot, even when playing games. 3. Speed. Seems like LG just found a way to make the components work better together. Programs load faster than any other notebook (and my day job is at a company that resells computers for high-end simulators, so Ive been using fast SSDs for years). 4. Feel. This is so light that you might fear it could easily break. Ive had zero problems with it but if youre the type of person who often drops a computer from 5 feet onto the ground, this is probably not the computer for you. LG says it meets a military standard - which is impressive in such a lightweight chassis. Since I carry this computer from home-to-work-to-home-to-airport-to-hotel-etc... I love how lightweight it is, plus even the AC adapter is lightweight. Fewer back problems. 2.5 lbs. is surprisingly much lighter than 4 lbs. for a computer. Price/Performance: Just outstanding. I gave up a $3,000 Razer notebook to get this $2,000 LG and am very happy. 1 TB SSD and 2 slots is very smart. Other Thoughts: This computer has the ability to charge to 80%, instead of 100%, which I engaged as soon as I first booted it up and which means the effectiveness of the battery will do better into the future (same principle for Telsa vehicles where you arent to charge them to 100%). System/Battery combo is so good 80% charge is perfectly fine. The lack of bloatware is highly appreciated. The ability to use the computers USB-C to fast charge my Google Pixel phone (USB-C) can come in handy. Also, Im able to have one charger for both the computer and phone via USB-C. Notebooks Wifi has been rock solid. I didnt expect much from the speaker audio (I use headphones or bluetooth speaker if i need audio usually) but it is perhaps the #1 or #2 notebook Ive ever owned for quality audio. Ive tested it with some Steam games and it has performed very good - another reason I appreciate the 1080p resolution screen and with Thunderbolt 3 built in, there is the potential of external enhancements because thunderbolt 3 is like having a central line to the backbone of the computer, helping to future proof this model. Update: 5/1/18 Ive had no problems with durability despite heavy use and considerable travel. I just completed some video editing (using Adobe Premiere Pro CC, latest version) and was shocked how well it worked. Previously I used a high-end desktop with 1080 Ti graphic card but I could barely tell a difference between the two of them. There is one problem, when you engage or disengage the trackpad the indicator light is stuck in the on position regardless, but the function actually does work fine just the indicator light is pretty useless. I also added small white dots (used white-out) to help me quickly align and plug in cables since this unit travels between work and home. Update: 9/23/18 LG is still going strong, zero issue with durability. Just bought a Sager 15.6 notebook and Ill do an amazon review on it - but the sager is impressive for performance demanding work or games! If thin and lightweight (while having solid performance) is important to you, this LG gram is tough to beat, you just have to accept that it can be durable even though it weighs almost nothing. Normally this is the time period when Ive had plastic-based Dell notebooks start to have hinge problems but no problems with the LG gram despite daily travel and 12 hours of use per day (plugged into power usually). Update: 11/26/18 Durability is still solid. However, today I had three times where the notebook screen went totally black for about 2 seconds and then came back, but the computer continued as if nothing happened (no reboot occurred nor was a reboot needed). Today was the worse but it has happened before, maybe once every two days. However, I usually have this computer connected to a monitor so it might be a bigger problem for someone not using an external monitor. Update: 6/25/2019 The blank screen issue seems to be less, though Im usually working with it connected to a 4k monitor. Still using it 12 hr. per day and the durability of this thing continues to impress, despite the feather-weight status. Not a single "blue screen of death" despite over 7,000 hours of operation plus over 100,000 of airline miles! I might someday upgrade to the latest LG 17 gram.

Best computer Ive ever owned. No other laptop is anywhere near this laptop. The touchpad is even as good as the MacBook 12" I used to have. This runs Age of Empires Discovery Edition just as well as the two other gaming laptops Ive tried, both with discreet graphic cards and weighing a TON more with HUGE power bricks. Dont forget the power brick size is important too. Since this can be charged off usb-c, it opens up all of those possibilities as well. A neat trick I did was to use cloudready (chrome os on a usb drive), disabled secure boot and adjusted the boot order so usb drive was first, and now I can just use a usb drive to boot up into chrome os (i.e. it turns it into a chromebook). (Although the trackpad isnt as good as it is in windows, but an external mouse works fine). Because LG designed it to run on the basic drivers without a bunch of CRAPWARE like with many laptops, it runs Chrome OS great! To boot into windows I just shut down and remove the usb stick. It boots SUPER fast, I cant emphasize enough the raw performance this thing has. Everything about it is perfect, Ive never encountered a perfect laptop before. When gaming the battery only lasts about 5-6 hours. When web browsing it will last much much longer, and you can easily set the performance mode by clicking on the battery icon in the system tray at the bottom level and simply sliding the slider to the left for better battery. I dont even notice a performance downgrade when putting it all the way to best battery settings. Brilliant decision choosing 1920x1080 for the screen size for battery saving and usability reasons .Every decision made when designing this was the perfect decision.

Ultra lightweight, big bright screen. I got the 1T ssd and 16 ram model. There is no fan noise at all. I love the extra screen size, it is so worth it. Quick setup. I love everything about it, though screen frame does seem a bit flexible, so Im extra careful when opening and closing it. Microphone setup tricky but once I found the app that controls it, it was a snap. So glad I got one with regular usb ports. Speakers on back are odd but I work with it in my lap and its nice and loud. Laptop doesnt get hot but a.c. adapter did during initial setup. Keyboard is good but layout different than what Im used to, so Im still adjusting. I immediately upgraded to Win10 Pro and its still super fast. Great fingerprint reader. I just hope this baby lasts! Its always somewhat of a crapshoot these days. Go for it!

Ive been holding out for two months for these to hit the market and Im so glad I restrained myself from going with a different manufacturer/model. This thing is as light as a feather and super, super thin. Its a sight to behold and feel in your hands; worth every penny and more. I personally dont like the Windows 10 interface but it was easy enough to go onto youtube and find out how to get it switched over to the familiar Classic Shell (which took a little bit of doing) and see all my icons like Im used to. The machine itself is breathtakingly amazing though. If you have it or can manage it, it is worth every penny. I love LGs branding as "gram" - says it all. LG has now set the standards for every laptop manufacturer to follow suit if they have the guts to attempt it.

After months of searching and scrutinizing every available full keyboard laptop on the market I chose this LG and could not be happier. It is so unbelievably thin and light and super fast. Having a full keyboard was essential for me in my line of work so I love having the number keys on the right. The touchpad is very responsive. Although I dont use the touchscreen frequently it is an added plus. They battery life is great. Set up was a breeze .

I have an older version of this that for years I would make people hold it. It is soooooo light. This version has a touchscreen and I bought it for my college son who was lugging around a 5 year old MAC tank. If a computer makes me hold it with 2 hands when opened up to move it, then it’s not an LG gram. The computer has all bells and whistles, and it’s sleek. LG has this down. I have to have the number pad and this computer has it. It’s just easy.

My wife had pretty exacting requirements for a new laptop and this LG gram met them all. She loves the screen, performance, and light weight. The fact it irks with a docking station was also very important to her. This machine is used for business applications in our volunteer activities. O gaming or intensive graphics. I also wNted a machine that would last five years or more through up oming Windows upgrades. The 8th Gen Core I7, 16MB DDDDR4 memory, 1TB SSD storage and very rugged construction of the machine make that quite possible.i also love the backlit keyboard. The successful combination of light weight and ruggedness astonishes me. For those interested in a docking station, we bought a new Pluggable USB 3.0 which works very well with this LG gram. We haven’t spent more than a few hours at a time on battery so we can’t vouch for the stated 16.5 hour life, but it seems likely. Finally all our myriad devices, old and new, work well with this combination of computer and docking station.

Hi, I use the computer strictly for word, excel, business/legal stuff. I went with the type c charger which only comes in the $1900 configuration because I had dreams of going backpacking with this thing and using an external battery pack. In retrospect, I probably would have been ok giving that up and going with the $1400 version. Screen is bright, good feedback on the keys and it is light as heck! I travel to 3 different offices daily so portability is key. Update- June 3, 2019.. so I rarely run this thing off of battery, which I know kills battery time. I had to use the c charger to juice up my samsung 8+ and I forgot to replug the laptop. I had its main screen on 100% and hmdi to my office screen. I made it 8 hours of banging away on office work before I got the 10% low battery warning. After a year of treating the battery poorly and driving a 15 inch screen. Hurray!!!

First thing. This laptop isnt for gaming. If you expect to play games theres a lot of options out there with discreet video cards. What this laptop does well is merely function for work. Its super light, I can get a good 6-8 hours on a charge if Im just coding away. The keyboard is very comfortable. Trackpad is almost on par with a macbook. In general I just love this laptop. Its made me want to learn C# and visual studio (Im normally a mac/linux guy by trade). The only detractor to me on this laptop is the screen aspect ratio is meant to watch movies 16:9 and Id rather have a taller screen like a Lenovo or Macbook. That said this machine Ill probably use for as long as it lasts. 6 Months in its been great. I have the thunderbolt one and Ive used it to charge. The barrel charger included can be painfully slow if you have a lot plugged in.

Excellent computer, very light for a 15 inch screen,,. The computer I replaced had a ultra HD screen, which was a much clearer screen, ,LG TAKE NOTE! THIS COMPUTER WOULD BE PERFECT WITH A BETTER SCREEN!
