Oh Chromebook why did I leave you? I had a pixelbook and thought it was too much chromebook for me and decided to get a surface laptop that was on sale. Big mistake! I was pineing to return back to chromebooks but didn’t want to buy another pixelbook at that price. I then saw the announcement for the hp chromebook x2 and quickly pre-ordered. I read on the web that they were showing up early and decided to cancel my pre-order and pickup at the store. I paid $599 plus tax for the hp chromebook x2. My impressions are below. What is cool: The display is the same one on the pixelbook, chromebook pro/plus, so I am really familiar with it and it still looks good here with its 2400 x 1600 3:2 aspect ratio. This is the first chromebook detachable and hp were clever in the design because the keyboard looks almost like one of those folio keyboards, but it is not and is actually hard plastic. What this allows then that the surface pro devices can’t claim is the ability to be used on your lap. The secret is in the hinge mechanism that allows more of a claim schell design, but retaining a look like a folio cover. There is a reason the keyboard weighs 1.5 pounds by itself. Typing experience is good as well as the trackpad. The performance from the core m3 7th gen is really good on this and is a step up from the chromebook pro, and asus c302. What could be improved: Speakers sound okay but they just don’t get loud enough, and when on max volume sound tinny. White case looks okay but I wish they offered another color, and I dislike that both the keyboard cover and tablet are fingerprint magnets, requiring constant wipe downs. The not so good: The price you pay and the paltry storage of 32 GB is insulting in this day and age. Should be able to double it and give you 64GB, since android apps are a thing now with chromebooks. No backlit keyboard. It was reported on the web several places that the keyboard is backlit and it is not. This isnt a major deal for me but it does lower the value of the device and I could see many being turned away from this. No home button in tablet mode. I feel like this could be fixed in a software update but having to clear your pages to get back to the homepage just seems inefficient. Conclusion: I think for premium 2 in 1 chromebooks that the Hp Chromebook x2 slots nicely in the number 2 spot just behind the pixelbook. I think with its price and newer core m3 it is a good alternative to the chromebook pro and asus c302 also. I think lowering it $50.00 would be ideal since it does include a pen, but hp did skimp out on the storage and backlit keyboard.

So Im sure If youre interested in this product youve probably noticed by now that its a chromebook. The real question is, does anyone really need a $500 or more chromebook? Well the short answer to that is no. But Its more complicated then that for most people, Ill explain more at the end. The first thing I thought when I opened the box was that it was a pretty stunning chromebook. It looks sleek, as you can see from the photos up by the price. When you are sitting in the coffee shop and decide to pull out your device to do some browsing, people will know you are using a premium device. If that matters to you then you have it here. The thing doesnt look cheap and thats a good thing. Okay, so the thing looks good. But how about its functionality? Does it actually live up to how it looks performance wise? Well yes and no. It depends on what you are getting this device for. I think about 95% of people will be totally happy with its performance. For browsing the web, checking emails, using google docs, etc. It performs exceptionally well and I havent noticed any slow down whatsoever. On the flip side, you have android apps and this is where performance can take a hit. It can run most android apps decently and some great even. Just dont be expecting to play the most demanding games at the highest settings or anything. With these limitations in mind, you should know whether or not its for you. Just some final things that deserved to be mentioned. The detachable keyboard THAT COMES WITH THE DEVICE(how awesome is that?) is actually really great. It feels tactile and has a good travel distance, It just feels good. Sadly the keyboard is not backlit which isnt a huge deal to me but may be to some. The speakers are okay, nothing special. Id say there slightly above average, theyll get the job done and youll be content but they arent gonna blow you away. Next the screen. The screen is one of may favorite aspects on this device. Colors pack a punch, the resolution is really sharp and it can get pretty bright. The screen is awesome and every time I open the device my eyes just light up with how great it all looks. Text is easy to read and really no detail is left out. FINALLY, thanks for sticking with me this long those of you who have. Some simple stuff to also note. The device has a headphone jack, 2 USB C ports on each side of the device as well as a power button and volume button. When it comes down to it, I think spending $500 for this chromebook is absolutely worth it. Its fast, looks and feels premium(which matters to a lot of people, myself included), has good battery life and is just one of the better chromebooks out there. Definitely the best value for your money if you can afford it. I almost got the pixelbook hearing its the best of the chromebooks but I found this and I gotta tell you guys, I dont feel like I settled and you wont either.

I cant get over how much I love this Chromebook. Being a devotee of all things Android and Google but needing an actual laptop, for years I have been hopping between a Windows laptop and an Android tablet (I use a tablet for digital sheet music, as a full time music teacher). This detachable Chromebook is the perfect solution. It acts and feels like a real laptop, and when I detach the screen (which makes kids gasp most of the time, because it looks so much like a traditional laptop that they think Ive broken it), it acts and feels like a tablet. Its fast, and the battery life is better than anything Ive had on any tablet and better than any laptop by a LONG shot. I keep finding myself saying "It just WORKS!" I cant recommend it enough!

Delivery came in a day late due to understandable Florida weather. This is by far the best laptop Ive ever used! Ok so the processor and 4gb ram may appear subpar but dude does chrome os make use of it. In the one day Ive used this, never any lag or buffer. Even initial set up was about 3 mins. Before this I had an i7 hp 12gb ram 1tb storage laptop but windows crippled it. I doubt Ill ever go back to windows. Outstanding product!!!

Wow, I just got it but I love it! Its beautiful and it started right up with all my information as I had a Chromebook before. Its fast, beautiful clear pictures and videos, detaches easily and feels very sturdy but lightweight, battery life could be a little longer but havent had it run out yet. Love that it has a stylus but have not used that yet. So far I am extremely happy with its sleek appearance and quick setup! Way to go HP and Google. Oh and the price was right. Got it $100 cheaper on Amazon.

Im not a "tech" person or a gamer, all I care about is the device doing what I need it to do, which it does and the device looking good (which this also does). I love this Chromebook. I use it for work and internet research and it does everything I need it do, quickly. The detachable tablet/screen is super cool feature/bonus. The screen images are clear and the battery life is good. Im typically an Apple person, I have an iPhone and iPad Mini in my dream world I would have loved an iPad pro but I cant afford it. This HP is a really good compromise for me. That being said the only thing I dont like is having to use janky Android apps. Im spoiled by the App Store. But I can work around it with what Google has to offer. I saw this Chromebook at Best Buy on sale for $399 and it was just what I was looking for but I wasnt ready to buy on the spot. When I went back to order it online they were sold out and when it came back in stock the price was up to $599. The price on Amazon was still a little more than what I originally found at Best Buy, but it is worth it.

Knowing that Google is moving away from the android os to a chrome based os I needed a tablet replacement and the HP X2 seemed to fit the bill. My only disappointment and concern is the 32gb installed memory. In todays software environment of apps vs programs, this is not enough in the long run since google does not handle plug in memory well due to security concerns. Because of the screen size it is not as easy to hold as a 10 inch screen but its not bad either. It is fast and does a great job, I think I could use it for a laptop once I discover more apps that work on a system like this from the app store.

I mostly use this device in tablet mode, because I use it leisurely (movies, TV shows, and light Android games) and it does all those things great thanks to its really nice display and front firing speakers. Overall speed performance has been solid with a few rare frame rate hiccups in Android apps. The included pen is a very nice addition to keep the screen clean of finger prints and accurate touch! Battery life has been really solid, using it mostly to stream Netflix and light web browsing, I can easily get through a day. The unfortunate part is that included keyboard/mouse would randomly stop working, even when fully docked, and the only way to fix it is to either re-dock it or reboot it. It would even sometimes pop up a message saying that the keyboard may not be a valid one. I also encountered a few Bluetooth connection issues too, it seems to be stable with a recent update, but Im still a little bit skeptical on its Bluetooth connection reliability down the long run. If you NEED a keyboard and mouse, I strongly advise grabbing a USB-C dock with Type-A ports for an external keyboard and mouse. Would I recommend this? Yes as a tablet*, but no for a 2-in-1 solution, because of the keyboard/mouse dock being unreliable. *Even as a tablet, its a bit on the unwieldy side for its size and weight - definitely visit a store and get a feel for it before you consider this tablet. As of May 2019, this device stills deserves to be in a shortlist when considering a tablet, but if you need something lighter/smaller - I feel the iPad series may be a better choice.

I really like this device especially getting it at a deep discount at $380. Its a competent chromebook, works very well as an occasional tablet (fantastic for online magazines, the screen is incredible) I like the heavy keyboard as its not as top heavy on a desk. Build quality is incredibly solid and its not too heavy. At this price point there are compromises, and I would have gladly paid more for additional ram and disk space, and a back-lit keyboard might be nice. Otherwise I enjoy the form factor more than a flip over 2 in 1 because its lighter as tablet. Hopefully chrome in tablet mode will improve over time. Its not IPad Pro but damn if it doesnt feel that way! Quick note the keyboard was malfunctioning, but hps service was fine and there were paid options if you wanted really fast turn around, as it was they upgraded me to the midteir for free and turn around was 2 days to get the shipping box and about 5 days for the repair and return.
