The battery discharges while plugged in, meaning you cant use the machine for more than 2-3 hours total without having to shut it down...It lags when even playing a 10 year old game, and the keyboard back-light does not work properly. This computer is a piece of crap. It is so shameful that this is marketed as a "gaming laptop" because it cant even stay awake long enough for the average Netflix binge session (even when plugged in) led alone any "gaming" session. I cant even use this for my work, led alone leisure activities. Scam.

Im a software developer but generally avoid replacing hardware until necessary. My old "desktop replacement" laptop had finally reached its end of life so it was time to find a replacement that would last me the next decade. This is that machine. Battery life is fantastic, computing performance is staggering, the physical case is sturdy enough to avoid the motherboard flex that would plague other brands and cause intermittent device failures, and all at an impossible price point. Physically, its pretty big for a 15" laptop and has some weight to it. Those are pluses for me, but it might be too much machine if youre regularly traveling for business or tend to work on the train/bus/plane. As others have said, its appearance is pleasantly understated for a "gaming" laptop. This is a great price for a very solid machine from which even power users should expect many years of use.

I was expecting great things from this laptop after all the reviews I had read. The laptop blew me way in terms and video editing with really fast render speeds. It played every pc game I threw at it in full HD. I opened more than 50 tabs in google chrome simultaneously and my G5 did not freeze even once!!! The only trade off is the battery life. The battery lasts little over 2 hours when gaming or rendering a video. Overall I would definitely recommend this laptop for videographers, casual gamers and creatives as a whole.

I had the previous version of this laptop but unfortunately I broke it. The G5 is nice but it has some faults, the track pad could be a little smoother. I really wish they would make one to compete the the MacBook track-pads, those are smooth as glass. Also, out the box windows is asking to be activated with a product key (i dont have one). My biggest gripe with the laptop is the screen quality, not the resolution but the color; if youre familiar with night mode on your phone its like you have night mode on all the time. The screen seems a bit warm and yellowish but all the time. Im sure ill get used to it in a few weeks but it really is annoying... I would have gladly paid an extra $100 for better screen color. So far those are all the cons, if I could re-buy I probably would. Or search for a comparable laptop with more accurate screen color.

I waited a while before writing this review in case anything came up. Which it did, but it didnt have anything to do with the PC hardware.. This is a really good laptop. Its lightweight and running windows on a SSD definitely makes a difference! Ive been wanting a computer that had the OS on a SSD for years now and I finally have it in this affordable little gem. The laptop itself isnt much to look at. It does have nifty red back-lighting to the keyboard, which is nice as Im frequently in a dark room. I do wish it offered more color options for the back-light, but Im satisfied with what I have. I do wish it was a little easier to navigate the partitions though. Since the OS is on the first partition the system defaults to trying to put literally everything on the C:/ drive. It would be more convenient if I could figure out how to get photos and docs to autosave to the D:/ drive and if my quick links linked to the second partition (D:/ drive).. There probably is a way to do it, I just havent done it yet. The only issue I have had with the laptop didnt have anything to do with the laptop hardware, it was an OS issue. The PC I purchased is a refurb, which is fine for me, but someone forgot to take the retail OS off the PC and put the OEM OS on so it ended up throwing notifications that my windows license was about to expire, which Amazon took care of. They ended up crediting my account so I could purchase another version of windows and install myself. While it was annoying to have to go out of my way to do work on, what is to me, a new laptop but it worked out fine. Overall I give this laptop a 9 out of 10. You get what you pay for, luckily this PC is a really good mid-range gaming laptop. Im satisfied with my purchase.

Only bought about a month ago but so far have zero issues or concerns with it. Its a powerhouse and I have not seen it slow down at all. I have been running AutoCAD 2017 and doing 3D drawings and renderings with no problems. Never imagined a laptop doing this. Also running video and sound editing programs on it with no lag or slow down processing anything Ive thrown at it. Battery life seems a little short but when you have power like this what do you expect? I love it and will update if there are any issues!

Dell nailed this computer perfectly! Yes, it is a laptop but the fans work well enough to keep everything cool. This computer plays most games on high settings and to be honest I really could careless about playing on ultra settings. So overall this computer is 5 stars! You get your moneys worth!

I purchased this laptop to be able to run Unity and it runs it really well (Ive been using it consistently for a few weeks now so Ive gotten familiar with it). It also handles games pretty well, running slightly hot for the Sims 4 (but the Sims isnt really optimized well in general so I expected as much) but doesnt lag for Elder Scrolls Online. My only complaint is that the charger cord is oddly short for some reason. I had to order an extension cord just because I cant even comfortably sit with it plugged in around my apartment.

Im not a gamer, Im a professional adult who mainly uses lightweight programs like Chrome, MS Word, and MS Excel, but I also occasionally shoot and edit marketing videos. Like anyone else, I also watch my fair share of YouTube and Netflix on my computer. I spent *days* researching different computers and even looking at various builds in mini towers. I finally settled on this Dell, and Im very happy with it. The bad news is that the machine is relatively large and heavy, and it features pretty angular and sharp edges on the corners. It also runs relatively warm and has a pretty loud fan. The screen is very good, but not excellent. I plug out to an external monitor with the HDMI port to take better advantage of the graphics capabilities. The good news is that the machine is a heck of a value, blazing fast, and comes with both an SSD for fast booting, but also a standard HD for storing things like videos and photos. The machine also came with minimal bloatware and Ive had no problems with any of the hardware. The illuminated red keys are pretty stealth looking (they remind me of Knight Rider), but the highlighted directional arrows for four of the letters looks pretty lame (I know they are there for gamers, but Id prefer to not have them since Im using the machine for business). Overall, I am very happy with the computer. Its an excellent value for its price point and a relative beast compared to my last laptop. Cheers.

I had high hopes for this laptop when purchasing it. However, 3 months into use I am starting to have issues with it. Twice now my Intel 9260 driver has failed causing me to lose all WiFi connectivity. Thankfully I saved my old laptop. I needed to dust it off, and download the Intel 9260 driver, as well as the Dell G5 Firmware to a thumb drive, then reinstall both on my brand new laptop. This would be an amazing laptop if it would continue to work. I expected better from a computer I paid $1,100.00 for at the time.
