Nice laptop. Fast start (especially after unchecking the fade options (found in: " Control Panel / Performance Information and Tools / Adjust visual effects"). Finger print feature is quirky but once you get it to recognize it, it goes to the desktop lightning fast. I DONT like the keyboard. Im a typist and like a firm keyboard while typing. I noticed that while typing the keyboard has some "give". Also, I wish the keys were not so flat.... Im use to feeling some height and mild key pressure while typing, not so with this keyboard. It does not have a lot of bloatware. I uninstalled the trial Microsoft Office software and installed my own MS Office 2007; installed flawlessly (you will need an external DVD drive). Another change I made to Windows is changing the fade when clicking to other documents. This fade feature in Windows is an annoyance for me; I like to instantly get to my documents when I click, so I changed the settings from "fade" (uncheck the option to fade screens) - you get a much faster response this way. I like the FREE computer games and other stuff that the Microsoft App Store offers (app pre-installed) . This is my first Windows 10; I like it, (they returned the "Start" button) (I hated Windows 8). Even though this machine has a SSD drive, I still hear something like a fan blowing (maybe its a fan for the cooling?).

I was looking for an upgrade from my old 2012 Asus Laptop (which just finally crapped out on me) and this one quickly became a top contender after hours of research. Ive got a few pros and cons below. PROS: - The 802.11ac wireless connection really makes a difference. Internet is unbelievably speedy, which makes a huge difference for me since I use lots of heavy web applications for my work. - Applications running on the computer are even faster. Even Premiere Pro runs smoother and easier than it does on my desktop. Keep in mind, my desktop has 12 GBs of RAM, but its still running on an i5 processor. With an i7 8th generation processor, this laptop is outstripping everything and can run multiple intensive operations at a time. I often run into problems on my work computer (a Dell) with my web applications crashing when I run too many at a time. Not a problem on this guy. - Battery Life. Battery Life is incredible. Best Ive ever seen on any machine. I gave it a full charge at roughly 1PM Sunday, used it for 2 to 3 hours (setting it up, downloading applications, logging into my email), used it on Monday for 5 to 6 hours (doing heavy work), and now Ive used it today, Tuesday for over 2 hours, and it just got down to 25% battery capacity. My older laptop wouldve needed a charge after the first two hours on Sunday. Theres a slider in Windows that lets you toggle Battery Saver VS Performance, and thats super handy when on-the-go. - Keyboard. I do lots of typing, and the keyboard feels nice and spaced out. My older Asus laptop had a "crunched keys" feeling to it, but this feels really comfortable. Im not really a keyboard scientist or anything, but I experienced no problems typing on this guy. - Size. The 15.6 screen is really nice, and it gives the entire laptop a bigger, better size than most Asus laptops. My old one was much smaller, and I often paid the price. This one is bigger, lighter, and thinner. Imagine that. - Setup. There was almost no bloatware on this guy other than some of the Asus stuff. Its really refreshing. CONS - Nothing, really. Ill update this review if anything comes up. Not a huge fan of Windows or Cortana, but what are ya gonna do. - I heard the internal fan pick up when using Premiere Pro, but its pretty quiet and didnt bother me at all. Normally its nearly silent. - When running for 4-5 hours, it can get a little warm on the bottom. Normally its perfectly cool. SUMMARY For the price, easily the best laptop Ive ever experienced. This is a MacBook Pro hiding underneath an Asus label and an $800 pricetag.

I was so excited for this computer based on its details and the reviews Ive read not only in Amazon reviews but all over the internet. I ordered from Amazon Warehouse refurbished and I must have just not gotten a fully refurbished model Im unsure but Im very unhappy with my purchase. It seems Im unable to return it either. It takes a full few minutes to start up then is slow in like every application it takes a full 30 seconds to open applications the screen blacks out and Ive only used this for a few months not to what I thought its full capacity could be. I wouldnt recommend this

I quite like this laptop. My laptop that I upgraded from win8 to win10 had a defective hard drive, and rather than going through the process all over again (I didnt get a chance to create installation media before I had to revert it), I decided to get something new. Its a slick laptop that has the appearance of a macbook. Ive seen reviews describing the color as more silver than gold and yeah, that would be correct. In the light it definitely has a gold tint but otherwise its very brushed silver. No CD drive, so Ill unfortunately have to purchase an external, but its lightweight and compact - it goes into my luggage easily when I travel. Keyboard is super nice with chicklet-style keys that are easy to handle. Booting is SUPER fast and I love the Windows Hello feature to sign in - although you really do have to work to train the computer to recognize your fingers. It takes awhile to get used to but I find it to be a really nice addition. Im very happy about the SSD drive, since my past computers have been HDDs. However, Im not sure if the SSD drive is making a sound or if theres a fan, but theres DEFINITELY a noise coming from this computer. It sounds like a drive or a fan constantly restarting. I cant describe the sound but you can definitely hear it and its noticeable. It sounds like a drive constantly booting up and restarting. Or it might be the fan. Im not sure if its something to worry about, but I will keep an eye on it. Other than that, the display is not fantastic. The screen is very nice, but Im an artist and I draw with a tablet, and I find the colors to be lighter than they actually are when I save my work and export it. Also, Ive had to squint at the screen/tilt the screen to see what Im looking at. Might just be my bad eyes, though. Anyway, Im happy with this computer. Asus has made a ton of improvements since the last two laptops Ive had from them, both in software and hardware (my other two laptops came with Windows 8 - Windows 10 is a vast improvement). I recommend this laptop if youre looking for something more involved for a good price.

This is one slick laptop! Slim, light, gorgeous, yet fast and very capable. It rivals the feature set of other machines TWICE the price, and in a far more stylish and portable package. Id definitely like more RAM, but for the price Im mostly very happy with it. Mostly. But every now and then it will just freeze up, so that I have to hard power-off (hold power btn for 6 seconds) and reboot. And because ASUS customer support is terrible, theres very little to be done about it. In short, if you want a fantastic & beautiful laptop for an insane price, GET THIS. But expect to be pretty much on your own if anything goes wrong.

During setup, noticed an icon telling me its missing updates. Went to settings; said updates pending. Clicking on the update icon did nothing, so clicked on Help, selected updates; it then said it cant tell if its updated, and to call customer service. I tried restarting it; been "restarting" ever since. Called ASUS, and am told its best to charge it for 8 hours before initial use (despite the menu I actually read saying merely to charge for 3 hrs prior to using it in battery mode for the first time). Was 80% charged when this crash occurred, so I dont see the connection. Amazon says they cant replace it, have to get a refund and repurchase, which is not great since it was on sale and cant be had for the price I paid 2 days ago. Should I mention Amazon packaged it with a 5lb protein powder canister careening around inside a larger box, with absolutely nothing protecting the computer inside its thin cardboard box, nor anything holding the canister in place so it doesnt bounce around into the computer? Total team failure.

All right, I will be contacting Asus and my local computer repair shops but until this problem is resolved the 1 star rating will remain. I am eager to get this problem fixed and then to give this device the excellent product review that it deserves. But with the major problem Ive been having with the USB ports this laptop is so unable to do what I need and want it to do, that I would not have paid more than AT MOST $150.00 for it as a back up on the road laptop. Thus far this is the only problem but it is huge. The problem is simple, none of the usb outlets recognize even half of my usb devices. My job requires me to travel and plug into numerous systems, and use numerous devices, all of which do so via USB. I know and respect the difference between the USB 2.0, 3.0, 3.1/Type-C, and Thunderbolt connectors. I have all the external adapters necessary to use any USB type connection on any and all USB ports but while this device lets me use my $1.00 wireless USB mouse it does not allow me to use even something so basic as an external monitor or a host of other common household USB connectable devices. I service a variety of devices that use legacy software systems and more modern systems. I need a USB driver that is compatible with all of these. I have scoured the web looking for tricks to make it work, I have tried all tricks no less than 5 times on 3 separate occasions. I have downloaded all sorts of USB driver software and other USB assistant software, but still I have gotten no results. I am very bothered by this and in need of assistance. I WILL change my review to a very positive one if I get the help I need (because the laptop is great apart from this glaring issue). If not this terrible review will remain. 12/04/2018

This is a really great laptop for the price, and just in general. Ive had it for about a month and so far the only things Im bothered by are the fact that the battery doesnt last as long as its stated when not plugged in, but does charge up pretty fast. And I saw other people have said this as well, and its true, the speakers do suck. The sound itself isnt terrible but its just so low. Full volume is super quiet and thats annoying as a musician and tv watcher. But Id say the pros outweigh the cons. Its a super fast machine, starts up pretty much instantly. I dont use a lot of heavy software, but I do have things like FL studio and that runs fine. The display is nice, but sometimes reds and oranges and pinks show up a little pixely. Dont know what thats about. But nothing too obvious. Maybe its just me. The fingerprint sensor is alright. Id say its just a cool extra feature. Sometimes it takes awhile to read but when it does youre signed in instantly. The laptop itself doesnt make any noise and doesnt overheat either. Its very light and looks really professional and sleek. Im kinda in love with it. It has just enough space for my needs, doesnt lag, and has a nice display. Some people were complaining about the keyboard but I like it. Feels fine to me. Even thought the laptop is light, it still feels sturdy. Overall, Im very pleased with my purchase. I hope this one lasts me awhile.

I purchased this as a portable desktop machine (easily moved to another apartment in the winter). I upgraded the Solid State Disk (SSD) from 128 to 512 GB and attached a separate monitor and keyboard/mouse. Everything worked well until I closed the lid and stored it behind the monitor with its not cooling bottom edge resting on a couple of supports. Then it began overheating and shutting down under heavy use at night. I think this is due to the cooling design that exchanges air from behind the keyboard (under the screen hinge) rather from the bottom. When used as a traditional laptop, the screen would be open, not closed, and not partially restricting the air flow. My heavy use is in the night when I run several cpu intensive jobs that heavily use the SSD. Has anyone else had an overheating issue? In any case, I would not recommend this as a portable desktop replacement. Get a model that is less thin and has more traditional cooling.

I spent weeks searching across all laptop manufacturers/models trying to find the biggest yet lightest/quickest laptop with an abundance of storage. If thats the criteria you are looking for as well, look no further. For the price you pay, there is simply no other laptop that even comes close to getting what you pay for. It really is amazing that a lightweight 15" laptop with the two most important aspects of a laptop (256SSD and i7 processor) exists for this price. The design is very sleek and at first I was hesitant towards the color shown online but ended up loving it as soon as it arrived. As stated in other reviews, the fan does kick on when CPU usage becomes high but not necessarily to the point where it becomes annoying. The mouse track could also be improved, but I use a wireless mouse so it doesnt really affect me either. The only real complaint I have is the volume level of the speakers is sub par - but, luckily, headphones do exist and mitigate this problem leaving absolutely nothing to complain about! If youre looking for the best laptop out there but yet dont want to break the bank, this baby is the one!
