Received yesterday. Since 6pm we have been installing Windows updates. The machine is installing YET ANOTHER major update this morning. Every time it finishes, we get the message, "youre all set", and then when we check 10-15 minutes later, yet another update is ready. After the overnight updates, the startup was VERY SLOW. Well update the review after a week or two and say how it is working overall. ******************* Laptop Review: The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 looks like a nice laptop. Purchased with the 1080p touchscreen, those items make a nice-looking machine. Display looks GREAT. The touchscreen so far is perfectly sensitive. The touchpad is large, and a little clumsy - there is a little movement under the pad, so every time you touch the pad, it makes a "click", like something has come loose. Finding a machine with the backlit keyboard is definitely worth it. In the evening, or night time, the backlight is great. Wish the light shown through the keys a little better, but it is far better than an unlit keyboard.

Battery live is way shorter than advertised. Its more like three hours, if that. And it is slow. Screen quality is good. Heavy and cumbersome. I think I got spoiled with a really good chromebook that is light and has eight hour battery life, even after four and a half years. The "mouse plate" is loose and makes noise and speakers are mediocre. I guess if it does the job I bought it for, it will be ok.

The seller did everything very well (5 out of 5 stars). Amazon was prompt in delivering this computer (5 out of 5 stars). But "Bloatware" loaded by Dell was a pain (1 out of 5 stars) The only problem I had was with Dell, which bogged down that laptop with junk. Hence the 3-star review. I understand the economics of piling unwanted software onto new computers -- all the manufacturers do it. However, the computer (2018 Dell Inspiron 15.6" Full HD IPS Touchscreen Laptop, Intel Quad-Core i5-8250U) I received was slow-w-w-w, and almost totally unresponsive out of the box. After fiddling around with it for about two frustrating days, I gave up and set a product return in motion with Amazon. Then, with my return label and packaging ready to go, I decided on one last "Hail Mary." I did a total re-fresh / re-load of Win 10 provided by Dell. After the fresh install, this computer now seems to be reasonably responsive -- and Im cautiously optimistic. But why was this laptop to be such a mess coming out of the box? I believe it was so stuffed with "bloatware" that it was rendered almost inoperable and unresponsive. So, heed the warnings of the many reviewers whove purchased computers via Amazon, Walmart and other outlets: "Beware the Bloatware." Before you do anything with your new laptop, load a fresh, unfettered, compromised operating system and run a "de-crapifying" software to clear out as much of the unwanted junk as possible.
