Let me start by saying I honestly love this mouse. It scrolls nicely, feels comfortable in your hand, and is generally awesome. That being said, it has some serious I mean SERIOUS durability issues. I have replaced this mouse on average once a year for the past four years!! Without fail, roughly a year after I purchase it something goes wrong. This year it was the scroll mechanism, it just stopped working even though I could move the scroller on the mouse itself. Last year it was the left click. I am not abnormally hard on my mice, I dont game or do anything that would require extensive clicking or scrolling so theres honestly no reason for it to die so fast. I know I should move on to a different mouse, and ive tried, but I always come back to this one because it feels the best. So heads up, its a great mouse, but expect to replace it once a year.

Microsoft MBA-Engineers went to cost cutting work and cheapened this mouse. The earlier mouse had a convenient storage slot on the bottom that released the nano transceiver with a button push. This version buries the nano transceiver in the battery storage compartment with no release button. You have to dig it out with a paper clip. Once the nano transceiver is out and inserted into the USB port the mouse works as advertised. Why does this annoyance drive a two star rating? The mouse is supposed to be portable -- take it out, store it in your brief bag, take it out again. Use it with a different computer if you want. What to do with the nano transceiver if leaving it in the USB slot is not convenient? I tape mine to the outside of the mouse with scotch tape. Plus it bums me out that a formerly good design has been cheapened and made worse as a result. Helpful factoid: Transceivers are NOT interchangeable -- they are mated to one mouse at the factory. I had an extra transceiver but no longer had the mouse that came with it. Called MS and was told they are NOT interchangeable. Huh. Who knew?

I bought a mouse 4000 and found that it didnt want to program the wheel button as I had been on the 3500. I decided to keep the 4000, but I bought a mouse 3500, which is the one Im used to. I found the reassignment of the wheel button that Ive been using. Good. However, the 3500 doesnt want to do a single click on the left button, it defaults to a double click on the left button. This I wasnt expecting at all ! I tried everything I could think of but I cant get a single click on the left button. I may be able to use it like this but I dont like it.
