I have carpal tunnel issues in both wrists, but its worse in my right since Im right-handed. A while ago a friend who had RSI issues recommended this mouse to me and its been all I use ever since! I have one at work for my work desktop and one at home for my personal laptop. It makes a world of difference! I started a new job a few months ago and had to wait two or three days for a new mouse to arrive (since my workplace technically owns the mouse they buy me). In just those two or three days my carpal tunnel was much worse and I was having a lot more tingling and pain. As soon as my mouse arrived, it got much better. I have much fewer problems with my carpal tunnel overall using this mouse vs a standard one. The same mouse I had at my previous workplace had been going strong for the 3 years I had it. And that was even after many times I accidentally swiped it off my desk and it clattered to the floor. Its still there for someone else to use. I like the feel of the material of the mouse. The only downside, in my opinion, is the "back" button on the left side of the mouse where the thumb goes. Im sure it may be useful to some people, but I wish I could simply disable it so I dont actually hit "back" when on a webpage. Ive gotten used to it and dont do that very often anymore, though I used to do it all the time when I first got the mouse and was getting used to it. Again, just wish I could disable it and not think about it all. But if thats the only drawback, its still worth it for this mouse because of everything else.

After 3 months of use Im ready to review it. Overall this is a high quality mouse which Im happy I bought, I would recommend it to others, and I would buy it again. Over the years Ive gone back and forth between MS and Logitech mice. I feel like Logitech quality has become inconsistent and Ive had too many problems with their mice. One thing that brings me back to MS mice are the ergonomics, they just fit my hand better and always have. That may not be true for everyone but its true for me. This mouse in particular feels somewhat awkward in the beginning, its so bulbous. But my hand has become accustomed and it feels comfortable and natural. My kids like it too and their hands are much smaller than mine. The clicks are authoritative and maybe slightly louder than your average Logitech mouse. I never use the Windows button. The wheel scrolls nicely up and down but I find it very awkward in scrolling left and right. The one thing I dislike about this mouse and the reason it lost one star, is the thumb back button. The button is flush with a small raised part but its awkward to find and use, Id prefer it to be more of a true button slightly raised. My previous mouse was a Logitech Performance MX which is also nicely ergonomic but they have a known hardware fault in the left click button that affects many, if not all of them at some point. update: 7 months later and still loving it.

I really wanted to like this mouse! It seems well-built at a glance. The shape is really comfortable, the thumb has ergonomic rest, theres loads of space for all my fingers even with a full-on Palm grip, and the battery compartment is held on with friggin magnets (not the cheap plastic tabs you see usually). However, the left mouse button would get stuck ever so often. I would have to tap the front side of the button to unstick it. Now sure if this was a one-off problem with the unit I received, or if it is a larger problem with this design. This issue was a deal-breaker for me.

The L6V-00001 has never failed me regardless which computer I use it with--desktops or laptops, and any operating system. I purchased this as a replacement for a far more expensive mouse being used with a 2013 Imac, and found, happily, the Microsoft mouse to work flawlessly. I pop the dongle into PC and Mac USB ports whenever I want to transfer the mouse functionality, and without any hiccup, the mouse just works. I also like the magnetic battery door. Over the years Ive despised changing mouse batteries mainly because the doors have nearly all been so difficult to pry open. But this Microsoft mouses battery door remains firmly shut until you turn the mouse over and tug on the smoothly indented lip to open the door. Its almost a pleasure to open and watch the door reseal securely once the lid is let go. Moreover, the mouse tracks remarkably smoothly and accurately on all non-translucent surfaces Ive tried to date. My only complaints are: 1)the plastic housing is ugly--and in less than a year has already become badly worn; 2)the mouse is rather small even in my medium-sized hands, which means the arch of my hand doesnt fit comfortably on the mouse, so my hand becomes tired after using the mouse for 60 minutes or so--an oddity in an "ergonomic" mouse; 3)the button to turn the mouse off (and therefore conserve battery power) is so smoothly integrated with the mouses underside that in low light its hard to find to turn the mouse off; I wish the mouse instead switched itself off after a certain time remaining idle; 4)the dongle is quite large (about a centimeter sticks out of the USB port when connected). None of these issues is very important to me, as the mouse works so very, very well, and I use it mainly as a desktop (so stationary) mouse. Considering the small fortune Ive spent on computer mouses over the years, Id be happy to replace most our other computer mouses with the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse in the future. UPDATE APRIL 2018 The dongle for this mouse literally fell apart (the plastic housing cracked open, exposing the bare circuitry underneath) while I was on a research assignment at a foreign university. I thought I could get a replacement on coming back to the States, but Ive learned from Microsoft that the dongles are all specific to the particular mouse theyre sold with. The Microsoft parts operator told me that if the dongle breaks theres no way to get a repalcement even under warranty. Im stunned. Now I have an otherwise perfectly good mouse with a broken dongle permanently stuck in my MBPs USB dock. Id have to use pliers to remove the dongle, hoping not to damage my USB port, and then my only option would be to toss this large piece of plastic (the mouse) into yet another landfill. What an environmentally irresponsible, not to mention consumer economics UNfriendly, policy! Given my experience now, just four years later (I STILL have a 2004 black Macbook that works flawlessly; I dont want electronic devices I have to replace every few years), Im downgrading my original 4-star review to 1-stars. Wasteful-wasteful-wasteful manufacturing and engineering.

I have used this mouse for a couple days. I was looking for something to help with wrist/arm pain (RSI type symptoms) but did not want to spend > $100 for the more widely known brand. The shape is certainly different and was a little hard to get used to. After a couple hours however, it feels just fine. Having the "Windows" button was great...but really just a novelty. Afterall if you need to find something on the start menu, one has to track towards the lower/left portion of the screen anyway. Turns out I dont use that at all. Tracking with the mouse seems very accurate. Ive never really had an issue with any Microsoft device in this area. Usage is easy; plug in the dongle (which by the way is a little large compared to say the Microsoft 4000 which this is replacing) and everything auto configures. Interestingly, the auto-configuration installs the "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center"; but when launching that in Windows 7 it shows that there are not any supported devices? (see screen shot). I dont generally remap buttons and such; but that may be an issue if you desire to change button functions; not sure. I purchased this as well as an Anker ergonomic (not the vertical version, but the newer ergonomic with a little less angle). I like them both; and choose to use different devices to change/alter angle of my arm/wrist to prevent further RSI issues. If I had to use just one; I would probably not choose this one primarily due to the weight (it is heavier than normal). But time will tell with that. For now I keep the primary (Anker) at work and this one at home; using both for many hours a week.

One evening of use in and Im really liking it. I have small hands and was concerned that it would be too large for me to use as it does look very big in the picture but its perfect and allows me to hold my hand at the exact angle Id been trying to hold it at while using a normal mouse. I play MMORPGs and have had no issues using it for that purpose. The windows button is in a good location and I feel I wont accidentally press it while gaming. The small button beneath it that serves as a "back" button for web browsing can be assigned a hotkey in game which is a nice bonus. For the downsides, the windows key cannot be easily disabled or remapped to something more useful. A cursory search indicates that youd need to run a script or do some regedit to change it and Im not bothered enough to go to the trouble. The windows key cannot be assigned a hotkey in games either and attempting to do so generated an error message from the game. This mouse pairs very well with this wrist rest: HandStands 55510 HandStands Add-A-Pad Wrist Cushion Another minor thing, the USB plug itself sticks out of the side of my laptop about half an inch. This is a non-issue for most desktop PC users who will probably plug it into the back somewhere and forget it, but for laptop users youll have to remember its there and unplug it whenever you want to pack up your laptop so you dont accidentally jam it on something and break it or damage your port. (The mouse itself has a storage slot in the battery compartment to keep the USB plug in when youre not using it.)

I saw a coworker using the vertical Anker mouse and was intregued that it might help me with the cold tingling feeling I sometimes get in my hand with heavy mouse usage. I didnt like the feeling when I held his Anker, but I thought this slightly tilted Microsoft mouse might do the trick. When it arrived I was hoping to have that relief feeling you get when you put on a new pair of socks/shoes or get a new pillow, but that wasnt really the case. Its still somewhat uncomforable to use, but I do love that I can vary my hand position in several different ways and still naturally press all the buttons. I can use it top-down like a regular mouse, let it rest naturally at the angle its designed at, or go completely vertical. In the vertical position my index finger drapes perfectly over the wheel so I can left click and scoll all with the index and use my 2nd or 3rd fingers for a right click thanks to the large size of the right button. I can have the pinky drag on the desk or rest near the right button, I can put my thumb below, in, or above the thumb notch. I think being able to vary my position throughout the day will help a lot. Time will tell. If it were a little shorter and a little lighter I think it would be perfect.

I received the package the 30th of July and I started using it that same day. It is now the 30th of August and It still has the original batteries it came with. Believe it or not, I actually have not turned it off yet (now that Im realizing it) ever since I started using the mouse. Not because I wanted to test how long it will take for it to go through a pair of AAs but I was just used to having corded mouse, so turning off a mouse after Ive shut my computer down is not my thing, but its something that I will have to start doing just because I want to prolong the life of the device. Its a good habit to have anyway. Its probably also worth mentioning that because I do a lot of illustrations in my computer, and with this mouse not being a bluetooth device, I was worried that it may have some delay time during use cause that could be really annoying...especially when doing illustrations. Surprisingly, I dont get that. and Im 6 ft away from my laptop. So bottomline is that it is very good on batteries and response time is on the dot. Im very impressed with this product. The only thing that would make me change my mind about this product is if the mouse just completely stops working after this review..lol..but Im hoping that wont be the case :)

I bought 2 of these a little over a year ago and the left click switch stopped working on both of them. It slowly just stops engaging over a week or two until it only works about 25% of the time. Also, I had to insert little folded pieces of cardboard on top of the batteries to keep them in place. I contacted Microsoft and, of course, theyre both slightly out of warranty so Im out of luck. I really LOVE the way the mouse feels when its working correctly but Im not buying another one. Time to try a new brand!

I know this mouse looks exceptionally odd, and whenever I recommend it to anyone they typically recoil because it looks so bulky. I first purchased this mouse to use at work, and when I would go home and use my regular desktop mouse Id start to notice that my hand would ache--this ergonomic mouse really does hold my hand in such a better position. This mouse is by far the most comfortable Ive ever had. Is it wireless, so the upside is no wires to tangle up--and the downside is that youll start to lose responsiveness when the batteries are failing. My batteries tend to last months, but I often dont think about batteries and start to get frustrated that the mouse doesnt seem to work until I remember--duh--the batteries need to be replaced. The bottom is magnetic which is fantastic when you need to replace your batteries--its simple and you cant do it wrong. The downside is if you drop the mouse...the bottom and batteries are going to pop out. (I know, I know, but Im clumsy...). Additionally however, Ive dropped my mouse more times than anyone should and its never broken or stopped working. Microsoft nailed it with this one. I wouldnt recommend the keyboard that goes with the set however--stick with their old line of ergonomic keyboards. The keyboard that matches this mouse is okay, but the number pad is a separate piece. Literally separate--you could walk off with it in your purse and forget its not a calculator.
