It turns out Logitech actually sells two versions of the M705. On their website they claim both are “basically the same,” but the new version is lacking some functions. First of all, it feels cheaper. It’s just not as solid. Second, it does not have the same hidden thumb button. It’d be nice if Logitech was honest about what they were selling. The new m705 is cheaper and is missing functionality that the previous version had. It should have a different model number or at least be more up front about the missing functionality.

This mouse is not the same even though it is the same model. It is either a knock off or Logitech has changed the manufacturing or some one is selling a knock off. I had to replace my old M705 because the batteries started to corrode and destroy the contacts. When I received the mouse I noticed the contact pads are different, and that it was missing the thumb button. It does not have the same feel as my old mouse. I then purchased a second M705 through a different site and the mouse I wanted.

I have a M705 mouse at work that I absolutely love. Ive always wanted the same mouse at home, but could not justify it until my current one died. I will stand by the fact that I love my work mouse. So, why am I reviewing this one so low? Simply because it is not the same mouse. If you look for mice on Logitechs website and then pull up the "for business" tab, you will see that there is a blue version of this mouse and a black version of it. Both have THE EXACT SAME MODEL AND PART NUMBER. This would not be too bad if they were the same mouse, but the blue version, which I have at work, has an additional lower thumb button. This is the main reason why I wanted this mouse when I bought it for work years ago. I tried working with Logitechs support to see what I need to do to get the blue version. Their response was that the blue version is an older model and is no longer available...yet they have it on their website. I actually had to send their support screen captures of their own website as they were insisting the blue version is not available. I do not blame Amazon for sending me an incorrect product as there is no way for them to know the difference when the model and part number are identical. Logitech really needed to change the model number so retailers would know that it is a different mouse. Through additional research, I did find that the M720 is very similar to the blue M705 and it has the lower thumb button. So far, it is a comparable replacement. Please note that I had to do this research on my own. Logitechs support made no recommendations. I was debating about changing brands due to the poor support I received, but they do have other companies beat as far as quality/price.

i ordered this because the picture shoes the old M-R0009 marathon mouse, logitech has cheapened the marathon mouse, removed features and dropped the quality. i returned it because what i received was the M-R0073, the newer cheaper build version. i didnt know they had ruined the marathon mouse. i though it was a fake or something. sent it right back. felt cheap, looked cheap, appswitch button was no longer on the thumb rest... bad bad...

After ordering this mouse (my 3rd of the M705 line), it seems theres two variations of the M705 model: The one with the Logitech logo and smaller "Logitech" name beneath it, and this one with just larger "Logitech" lettering. This one is definitely the cheaper of the two: It feels much lighter, the laser feels slightly less accurate (possibly due to placement differences), and most importantly to me: there is no "hidden" thumb button on this one. The logo M705 has a button in the rubber grip area that I use often for work purposes that this model lacks. If youre wondering why this M705 is about $15-20 cheaper than the other M705, the quality and different hardware features are the reasons. Things I wish Id known before ordering.

This mouse worked well for the first 6 months but then it started to double click every time time the left mouse button is pushed. After further researching this problem, I found that many other customers are having the same experience. It is too frustrating to continue using the mouse since it is clicking all over the place, especially when doing design work. It does have some nice features with the long battery life, two scroll wheel options and wireless functionality, but these are meaningless in light of the clicker problems. Some users have posted videos / guides on the internet about how to open the mouse up and fix the issue but I dont have any intention to perform surgery on it. Give that this isnt a one off issue and many other users have the same problem, I would not recommend buying this mouse. UPDATE 11/29/16 - Review changed from two stars to one star: Ive had to warranty this mouse twice now with Logitech - both times have been a HUGE hassle with the service representative taking almost 2 weeks to respond in some instances. The warranty process took almost 2 months each time and was not efficient. I have also recently had similar issues with the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 which randomly stops working. Ive had enough of these unreliable products from Logitech and will be purchasing input devices from another manufacturer going forward.

It is a good mouse, but this is the newer version. This does not seem to be mentioned in the product description, but this version has removed the extra thumb button. How to tell them apart: The old version has grey line near where the thumb knuckle is supposed to rest. That shows you where the button is. If you look on the bottom, this version will say M/N: M-R0009. This mouse also has a ring around the laser stating it has a Darkfield laser. The new version does not have the grey line and the bottom of the mouse doesnt have any stickers to really identify it. All it has is a molded M705 towards the top of it. If you look in the battery compartment you will see the M/N: M-R0073. This mouse is also missing the Darkfield branding around its laser. It is quite disappointing that Logitech changed the mouse without notifying consumers. I tried to google this and found nothing. I went to Logitechs site and found the spec sheets and sure enough, it lists two model numbers which correspond to different Logitech support/features softwares. But, it still does not list the fact that this mouse does not have that third button or Darkfield laser. The sad part is that they are selling a mouse with less features at the same exact price as before.

This mouse is horrible. Ive used it about a year now and at some point during the year, it started to bounce around when I would scroll. If you Google "M705 scroll issues" youll see exactly what Im talking about and that others have experienced the same issue. Regardless of whether youre on a Mac or Windows machine, the problem persists. Ive spent at least one hour on several occasions each trying to resolve the issue to no avail. A cheaper mouse that I bought from some no-name overseas manufacturer runs better and more reliably than this mouse. Dont be fooled by the well-known name of Logitech. Its not what it once was.

This is not what is pictured or described. there should be a button located where you rest your thumb and it is not there. This is a cheap knock off of a great Logitech mouse. I have an original Logitech M705 and it has the button as described. In fact I have programmed it to be a mute button for music. this product does not have that even though all Logitech M705 do. This is a clone and not the original item. FAKE.

I purchased this to replace my beloved Logitech M705 Model # M-R0009. Logitechs greed has downgraded the model and kept the same model name. This is misleading. The entire circuit board for the 7th button, aka (thumb button under the black rubber) that I frequently used as a Mac Expose button has been removed. It is now just hard plastic with a rubber covering. ***DO NOT BUY AS A REPLACEMENT*** THE MODEL HAS BEEN CHANGED MR0073 has been changed. NEW Model - Cheaper, thiner, plastic case -Logo is ugly and just plain text stamped on with white low grade ink -Plastic texture doesnt feel smooth and nice in your hand. -Wheel gear is downgraded, makes a sound when you spin it now. It was fast and silent in the original model -Different plastic material in the wheel button that you depress. It feels hollow now and it makes a noise when you rub your finger over it like an annoying echo. Very noisy, annoying, disturbs the beauty of silence and late night work. I compare the sound of nails on cheap plastic to nearly the same cringe of nails on a chalkboard. I would never buy this if I had walked into a store and felt it. Im disgusted at the quality. I would pay $4 for this mouse no more. It almost feels counterfeit. Executive fail! Good luck cheating your customers. I will be looking for a replacement and as an over 20 year customer of logitech my idea of the craftsmanship and quality which they (USED) to produce has been changed forever.
