This is a great mouse for reasons all stated in other reviews. However, some complaints Ive seen about this mouse in other websites come from people who have not read the manual and missed some features this mouse offers that address their complaints. You dont know what to do with the receiver when transporting your laptop? First, the mouse does have a compartment for the receiver. The receiver is tiny already, so most people will just leave it inserted in their laptops during transport. However if you wish to store it with the mouse, you can do so. It does not require you to take out the batteries themselves to store the receiver, but you do have to take the battery cover off to access the compartment. The mouse is too heavy for you? The most awesome and rarely mentioned feature about the mouse is the ability to modify its weight and center of gravity by only using one AA battery instead of two. The reason this is so cool is because it gives you an option to lower the weight of the mouse if you think it is too heavy with 2 batteries (I thought so). You can also to change the way the weight feels in your hand by placing the battery in the slot closest to the center of the mouse or closer to the back of the mouse. Some people prefer the weight of the mouse to be on the back while others prefer it to be more centered. I left mine in the center. How does it work with just one battery? If you notice, the two batteries in its compartment are used in parallel (both installed looking the same way), instead of in series like most electronics do (going the opposite way). The mouse works on 1.5 volts instead of 3.0 volts like the usual 2 AA battery equipment would. This is what permits the 3 year battery time. Of course, using one battery means it will probably only last about half the time as using two. Im not an electrical engineer so I dont have much knowledge regarding the efficiency of using two instead of one battery. How does this compare to other logitech mice in size and weight? I use a wired Logitech G9 Laser Mouse for my desktop pc, which weights 122 grams with no additional optional weights inside. I just add 4 grams of weight for my preferences. In comparison the Marathon M705 weighs 88 grams without batteries. With one battery it weighs 112 grams and 136 grams with two. The batteries it comes with weigh 24 grams each (other brands of batteries might have a different weight). So, with two batteries this mouse is heavier than a G9 even though it is slightly shorter lengthwise and slightly thinner as well. The M705 is about 4.5 inches long, 2.8 inches wide, and 1.5 inches tall. As a G9 user, this was the closest feel I could find in a wireless mouse. All other ones either felt too big forcing you to place your entire palm on them and disallow an optional claw grip or felt not wide enough for my hands. I enjoy the width of the G9, and even though the M705 is not as wide and connecting with as much of my palm as I would want it, it does not make my hand cramp up as most other narrower portable mice and I can use it for games without feeling like Im using a non-full-featured mouse. It is the perfect blend of portable and full sized featured mouse. My only gripes: The DPI on the mouse cannot be modified. This is understandable as it is not a gaming mouse. When compared to the G9, it seems that is it is permanently set at 1000 dpi. Another problem is that it has negative acceleration. This means that when you move it fast from side to side, it registers less movement the faster you move it. This only occurs at high speed movements, such as doing a quick turn on a first person shooter game. Again, I dont detract from the rating of the mouse, because it is not meant for gaming, but I thought I would include this in the review as some people might want this information. Edit: Im adding an image of the M705 vs G9 to the product page so you can judge the size difference. I looked for this online but it seems not too many G9 owners have yet bought this mouse since it hasnt been out for very long.

Love the OLD version of this mouse! Ive been using this mouse at work for several months and really like it, my favorite feature is the "hidden" thumb button. A bought another for home a couple weeks ago but Logitech removed the thumb button without updating the product information at all. To add to the confusion the Amazon product page for the M705 still has pictures of the old mouse and the link to the user guide shows the old mouse manual too. This new model has been out for six months, please update the product pages.

An older model mouse thats still great. I bought two years ago to use at work. Its worked perfectly all this time and Ive only had to change the battery once. The mouses size and ergonomics are great - I can mouse for hours without fatigue. There are zillions of different models of mice, and lots of tradeoffs you have to consider. Comparing this older Marathon M705 with the newer MX Anywhere 2 illustrates some of these tradeoffs. The MX Anywhere 2 can track on almost any surface. It has a permanent internal battery that recharges via standard micro USB cable, which is more convenient in my opinion than recharging the AA batteries in the M705. And it can connect to your laptop via bluetooth, if you want to free up a USB port, or via Logitech unifying receiver (the same one that comes with the M705). But the MXA2 is more expensive than the M705, and for me, the big thing is comfort. My hands are slightly bigger than average and my fingers are longer than average. The MXA2 is too small for me to use comfortably for long periods of time. When holding it, my fingers stick way out beyond the end of the mouse. Its not horrible, just a bit awkward - especially after a while. In contrast, the Marathon M705 is a little bigger (but still easy to travel with) and has, for me, perfect ergonomics. Its super comfortable to use. I ended up returning the MXA2 and purchasing a second M705 to use at home and when traveling. For some folks, the MXA2 will be more comfortable, or at least wont be as uncomfortable as it is for me. And the MXA2s ability to track on nearly any surface will be more valuable to some people than to me. For me, the M705s strengths, not to mention its lower cost, make it the best choice for me. The unfortunate thing about buying online is you cant hold the mouse first to get a sense of its ergonomics and comfort. So I strongly recommend going to a local store and holding difference mice to see which one is more comfortable before purchasing online.

So heartbroken to write this review! The M705 has been my absolute favorite for years, but this is absolutely a different mouse. When I saw the price was only $25, I snatched one up without thinking more about it to keep as a back up. Turns out the reason its $25 is because they reduced features– this mouse no longer has the thumb button which is my absolute favorite feature in addition to cheaper overall construction, poor glide pads on the bottom, and a worse laser. This listing indicates the older model, and I would not have bought this item knowing it was the newer, crappier model. The Logitech website now has a couple FAQ questions showing some differences between the two versions of the same mouse, but its very confusing as the two mice do not have different model numbers to look up. So, long story short, RIP pre-2018 M705. You were loved, and I guess Im gonna have to go find a refurbished one somewhere. :(

So, to note, this is still a decent mouse. HOWEVER if you are looking for the M705 mouse, this is not it. This is the M705 Performance Plus. It is a similar mouse but the performance plus only has 2 side buttons and not 3 (missing the button hidden in the thumb rest). Also, the plastic feels subpar compared to older logitech products and the mouse is far lighter than the real M705!

Logitech M705 Wireless Marathon Mouse The mouse I received is not the same as what is currently (5/8/18) being advertised. I ordered a 7 button mouse with laser optics. I received a 6 button mouse with "laser grade" optics. It appears that Logitech has updated - and by updated, I mean down-graded - the mouse to remove the thumb button and change the optics. Its really disappointing that Amazon does not verify the information they post. Even Logitechs web site is still posting some out of date information.

I want to like this mouse, but its list of flaws relegate it to just "ok" status. PROS: - Well built, and has a good weight to it (I guess if you want it to weigh less, you can run it with only one AA battery, but I really like the weight of it). - The free scrolling wheel feels good, though many programs do not react well to its use. - Contours to the hand nicely for many people, Im sure (more on this in a second). - Task switching button works like a dream in Windows 10; Windows 7 (which I have at work), not so much. CONS: - The mouse is small for my hands, and I dont exactly have big hands. Im just shy of 6 feet tall, so Id think Im pretty average, but this mouse feels like its about 10% too small to fit my hand, and also not long enough to comfortably fit in my palm. - Similarly, the scroll wheel is about a half inch too far back for my liking. I want to be able to have the tip of my finger on the wheel, not the middle of my finger. - The scroll style toggle button protrudes from the top of the mouse WAY too much. It touches my finger constantly and it drives me crazy! - The scroll wheel clicks left and right too easily. Sometimes, when trying to middle click, the program will register a left/right tilt instead. Very annoying. - The back/forward buttons on the side arent contoured like the M510, and I loved that feature on the M510. VERDICT: All in all, this is still a solid mouse and it can be found relatively cheap compared to some of Logitechs other offerings. I know that this model has been around for a long time, so its baffling to me that they have made seemingly zero improvements to this model over the years.

This is my go-to mouse; or, it used to be. My first came as the mouse half of a keyboard/mouse set, and I loved it. The (for me) perfect size, weight and shape. The incredible battery life. The several extra buttons, each of which could be easily programmed to recognize what app was in use and act accordingly. The way they held up to my poor treatment and accidental drops to the floor. If they were on sale, I was buying more! I gave them away, broke more than a few and always had backups. They would never have rated a two-star review Now, though, Logitech has done me wrong. They changed the construction and the feel, they eliminated a thumb button and, most importantly, they never changed the model number. If I buy one now I dont know which edition Ill end up with and, quite frankly, the newer version is not worth the price. Even the silicone feet have been done away with. So, I guess the question is: Do you feel lucky?

DO NOT BUY! DO NOT BUY! FAKE! FAKE! FAKE! The whole dang thing is a fraud and amazon is recommending it?! Im pissed. I got a fake Wacom mouse with a fake Logitech logo on it. I have the real thing direct from Logitech and this one is not the same. Sensor is terrible, missing buttons. The color of the plastic is not even the same. The mouse is not even recognized by Logitech software meaning it does not have Logitech firmware in it. NOTHING ABOUT THIS MOUSE IS ACTUALLY LOGITECH! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I already have two M705 mouses so when I needed one for work travel, I ordered a third. The second I opened the package, I knew this was not the same M705 mouse. It was lighter, felt flimsy, button clicks were not precise like my other M705s, the roller button is not smooth, the slippy pads on the bottom are quite cheesy and the thumb app select button has mysteriously disappeared. Comparing this current version to the old version, the new one is junk. If I knew this what Logitech has come to, I would have saved myself fifteen bucks and gotten an Amazon Basic mouse. The Amazon mouse is probably better.
