I build, use, and debug Windows and Linux systems frequently. When a problem arises, or for the initial startup of a new system its always best to eliminate mouse issues right up front. For the debugging stage anyway, that means going to a simple, wired, USB, optical mouse from a reputable maker. Thats exactly what this mouse is. It has all the critical features: three buttons plus scroll. Its recognized instantly by just about any OS without requiring special drivers, and even the feel is pretty good - certainly better than any other $8 mouse Ive used. Its a little lightweight but still feels solid, large enough for an average hand to rest the palm on the curve of the mouse, and has a very subdued, matte finish that does not show fingerprints. I recently ordered three of these; they all work perfectly. One on a Linux box, one on Windows 7, and one on XP. In fact the XP and Linux uses have permanently banished the battery hog wireless mice that were previously in place. Newer wired mice like these have much lighter cords than previous ones, minimizing drag, and the availability of USB ports close to the keyboard on most systems really obviates the need for wireless in most cases. Im ordering a couple more of these for stock, because I dont think Ill find a better mouse for $8, and there are times when I really want to quickly lay my hands on a mouse that I trust. UPDATE MAY 2015: I just ran into this review while using my main MacBook Pro at work, and realized that one of the original mice I was writing about had migrated to be the mouse I use on this machine, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week - 3 years later.

This mouse is a mixture of good and bad, but for someone who is not looking for much in a mouse, its epic. I bought this mouse to replace a previous Logitech mouse that had been with my family for close to a decade. With a lifespan like that it was only natural that I look for a mouse from Logitech. Especially since the old one was one of their less expensive models at the time and it still endured like it did. I wasn’t looking for much in a mouse, just something that would help out with everyday tasks while at college. I didn’t want to fumble around with batteries so I went with a corded mouse. It has been eleven months now and I am far from disappointed. The mouse has made life easier which is only natural since I went from using a touchpad to using a mouse. However, I have done some gaming since buying this mouse, and the mouse has held its own in the field. Now any gamer would be right to refuse to consider this mouse for the task. After all, the mouse doesn’t have the same level of customization and number of controls as the most rudimentary gaming mouse on the market. The point is that it served my needs in an field it was not designed for. All in all, the mouse has performed within my needs and expectations. When using the mouse for extended periods, I do find it to be a bit small for my hand. Furthermore its tactility could use some work. The button push is a little light (I have had occasion to accidentally click on things), and the detents on the scroll wheel are similarly weak. Though, this does make it a silent scroller, clicking with the mouse is still a bit loud. I especially noticed this because I was able to make the clicks on my old mouse almost completely silent which is something I can’t seem to do with this mouse. Additionally, I have found that while playing games like World of Tanks and War Thunder I have to pick it up multiple times to aim at opponents or make turns. On the other hand it is perfectly adequate for administrative tasks and home work. The mouse only requires a flick of the wrist in order to go from one side of the screen to the other. CONCLUSION: This mouse is more than adequate for most tasks that will be performed on a day to day basis, but if you want to do a lot of gaming, you probably better start saving up for something better for the task.

Another EDIT: Okay, Ive been using the replacement for half a year and it works fine, so Ill raise my rating to 5 stars. See my original review and past edits below. ... EDIT: Ive raised my star rating from 1 star to 3 stars, even though my original purchase was genuinely defective, because I submitted a warranty claim on Logitechs website and they promptly sent me a replacement, which has worked fine in the month since Ive been using it. Im still slightly scared that it might go bad again, but they did send a working replacement, so Im satisfied for now. My original review is below. ------------------ I just bought this thing recently only a month ago. It was fine for a month, but it just abruptly became useless. The scrolling wheel has suddenly gone defective. Now its constantly trying to scroll down. Sometimes when its not trying to scroll down automatically, if I as much as touch the scrolling wheel, then it will rapidly scroll down to the bottom of the page. I tried plugging the problematic mouse into a different computer and got the same problems. Ive been forced to switch back to using my old 10 year old mouse (also Logitech), which still works fine, unlike this new mouse, even though its relatively brand new. I have tried restarting the computer. I have tried uninstalling the driver for the mouse and replugging it in. I have tried plugging it into different USB ports. I have tried messing with the mouse options in the control panel. None of these things helped. Ive looked around in forums and found that this is not an uncommon problem with Logitech mouse users. Search "logitech mouse scrolling problem" and youll see plenty of Logitech users complaining about this problem. My only option now is to get a replacement. I am annoyed.

Purchased: Logitech B100 Received: Logitech B100 Seller: Amazon Review updated: May 17, 2011 Pros: + great price + smooth cursor movement, good button action Cons: - thin cable, but not really a problem unless it fails - cheap-feeling scroll wheel, (ditto) Details: I purchased two of these mice for something less than ten bank notes apiece; one for my father and the other for a neighbor. This is a basic USB mouse with scroll wheel and middle button. It plug-n-played just fine under Windows XP and seems to work quite nicely. Other reviewers have criticized the light weight of the mouse, but Ive come across even lighter mice and found that the B100 was not at all annoying to use. The weight seems perfect to me and comparable with other mice of this size. Some people have reported that this mouse is too small, but I found it normal in this regard and it fits my hand quite well. I think that almost all available mice are too small for long-term comfort. The only exceptions are insanely expensive. The B100 is certainly average in this regard. Long ago, I used Microsoft mice exclusively, but switched to Logitech as I found that their scroll wheels and middle buttons tended to work much better. The Microsoft mice Ive owned have always middle-clicked so easily that I had to disable the middle button entirely. The middle button on the B100 clicks just the way I like it (better than some more expensive mice) and Im entirely happy with all the buttons so far. However, the B100 does have one area where the low price shows: the scroll wheel. The scrolling action works fine, but the wheel clicks rather "cheaply" and loudly. This wont be a problem for me, but I wanted to mention that this is the only thing on the mouse that seems of low quality. The mouse feels find in the hand, the pointer moves smoothly and accurately, and the buttons click perfectly, but the scrolling action feels and sounds rather hollow. Other reviewers have suggested that this mouse may not last forever and I will report back with any durability issues if they arise. At first glance, however, the mouse is better than I expected at this price and suspect it will be fine for most users.

Because I use my laptop as a desktop computer most of the time, and because I dont mind a mouse cord, I have used several varieties of a corded mouse over the last 8 or 9 years. Each has lasted about 3 years. I have settled on Logitech because they are generally reliable. This one, evidently their latest version, is as comfortable and reliable as its predecessors. As an extra bonus, it functions on my plain white desktop, in contrast to its predecessors, which required a sheet of paper to detect movement. If you are looking for a good, reliable corded mouse, get this one.

The mouses precision of tracking is good. It has a sturdy feel to it. I didnt rate the durability, because Ive only had it for a short time. However, the mouse is too small for my hand. I wear a size XXL glove, and this mouse feels tiny compared to other mice Ive used. Another thing I dont like about it is that the light on the bottom turns off after a minute, and it doesnt wake back up when you move the mouse. I suppose that you save on your electric bill this way. But Im used to waking up a sleeping computer by moving the mouse slightly.

First things first, Im a right hander & I bought this for my iMAC. Overall, this is a good mouse for the price. It doesnt require batteries, you dont have to deal with bluetooth issues & theres no driver download (plus!). The scrolling & clicking is not as touchy as a wireless mouse but the scrolling noise can get annoying. One thing I noticed is that the mouse does not work directly on top of my folding table whereas my wireless mouse does. Therefore there needs to be mouse pad or something underneath at all times. Also this is taller than the wireless mouse, so your wrist will be cranked at a higher angle (something to get used to). I will use this mouse for my toddler when he plays his online computer games. Its super user friendly and perfect for his pointing/clicking speed.

I have had this mouse for over a year now and this still works great! This has been used so much that the logitech symbol on the top of the mouse has been worn off. My daughter plays farm frenzy games using this mouse and farm frenzy requires a lot of clicking of the mouse. I am very pleased.with this purchase!

This is a great, simple, no-frills mouse. It just works! The B100 is the same as the M100 in different packaging if you were wondering. I usually get a year or two out of them before the wheel breaks because I do a lot of CAD work and click the mouse wheel button all the time. But they are SO comfortable to use and have a good feel for the buttons and wheel, so I keep buying them. Its a cheap budget mouse but its one of the best you can get. Highly recommend for minimizing discomfort if you have any kind of wrist/arm pains, I use mine with a trackball and switch off as needed.

UPDATE / DEAD AFTER 4 MONTHS - WELL - COMES FROM CHINA. DO NOT BUY.Have logitech M-110 optical($24) that also side scrolls(adjustable 800-1000 dpi), for couple years--have gotten excellent use, but got B100-TAA optical for backup, since a mouse can be short lived sometimes ! B100 basic mouse with 800 dpi, best for most users not gaming. Exact same shape/size mouse as other...was hoping it was slighter smaller and not as high, since no extra room needed inside housing to input software for horizontal movement and dpi speed changing. Logitech products good/reliable. All mice seem bit large for my hand ! Works just like other mouse, now, fresh out of the box...very good pointer movement is stable--no drifting----long cord ! Optical mouse is a must....over ball mouse, except gaming likes a lazer mouse...faster. Generally, just a logitech less expensive mouse is quite reliable. Optics do burn out eventually, like a light bulb filament, so kind of a good idea to buy 2 cheaper mice, so you have a backup. Mouse made in china, but certainly requires logitech specifications in the building of it. More expensive mice, MIGHT have better longer-lasting optics, but who knows !....WILL UPDATE, if does not last. (red optics...I want blue !!!) NOTE: if you get a logitech optical mouse that scrolls horizontal and speed can be adjusted, then it requires "set-point" software, available online. Have had problems with that software, causing screen freezing and loss of pointer movement (on 2 computers), requiring total power-off shutdown, to get functions back. Couple discussions by phone, with logitech, have resulted in no solution. SO, I cannot recommend logitech customer or technical support. They have used their mouse with "set-point)on their computer and got similar problem !
