I wanted a new cover for my desk to protect it from scratches, and my old card game play mats + tape solution wasnt really ideal. This is the only mat I found that was the exact size for my desk, so I took a chance on it. Im very pleased! PROS: + Stitched edge is sturdy and prevents fraying (Ill update if that ever changes) + Clean-- Im one of those people who does everything at their desk. My cat uses it as a bed, I always have a drink nearby, and I sometimes eat here, too. Food and cat hair havent stuck, and anything on it is easily brushed off. It also doesnt allow spills through to the surface below (but see cons for a concern). + Modifiable-- it was easy to cut a circular hole with an exacto knife in order to pull cables through my desktop. + Good grip. I havent had any issues with it sliding off the desk, even when I lean on it. CONS: - Slight odor when its new. It went away after a few days, and I didnt find it overly strong or off-putting. But if thats a concern for you, you may want to air it out for a day or two before use. - Absorbent. While nothing got through to my desk, I did find that it soaked spills right up before I could clean them up. For water, Im not really worried about it--it spreads and evaporates quickly enough--but Ill need to be extra cautious with sodas, etc.
