Brand new machine that shuts off repeatedly on its own. Already had to take in for service. Avoid at all costs

This PC is a gift for my daughter for her Birthday - Christmas present. I did some research on the processor and the accessories that comes with this PC. Bluetooth, Wireless AC, a decent processor, C-port, etc. I added a Nvidia 1030 2 GB Graphics card (around $80-100) to this computer. I tested it on a few games, and handled those games with ease. This little computer packs quite a punch at a great value. I will recommend this PC for the casual user or the casual gamer (I would recommend adding a gpu and a bigger power supply). Update: My daughter had this computer over 6 months now. Ive added a bigger graphics card AMD 550 4gb, and a bigger Power suppy 550W 80 Bronze. :D Its not a Overlock monster, but a great beginners gaming pc. :) Still the best investment for 299.99 as a Black Friday Special!!!

bought this on Jan 23. On Feb 9th, the wireless card broke. Acer support had me wipe and reinstall Windows twice. then they told me to pack up the unit and send it back to them and they would repair it. they estimated it would take 10 days to fix once they received it and unpacked it, so Id be without my PC probably for 20 days or so (if you factor in the shipping time). They werent interested in looking at the event log messages that said that the driver files might be the issue, they just wanted to reinstall Windows then have me send the whole thing back to the factory. How am I supposed to work for 20 days without a PC?? Ill eat the cost of having it repaired locally and I will NEVER buy another Acer device again.

I was concerned about some reviews that mentioned the fan situation and potential overheating. I run computer simulations and have 4 jobs running on all the cores (all 100% all the time). The output of sensors is Core 0: +61.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) Core 1: +60.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) Core 2: +61.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) Core 3: +60.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) So no problems at all in this regard. Its a pacy machine and is running great. I am not using it for gaming, and cant comment on the graphics card (I dont care), but for the RAM and quad core it was perfect for my needs. It is also super quiet! Its sitting in our bedroom and I cant hear it at all. I have it connected to the tv and it looks good. For other linux users, I installed linux mint 19.1 xfce with no trouble (I just wanted something with relatively low resources that is stable) and everything just works. I imagine other ubuntu-based distros would be cool too.

This is an excellent computer. If you are looking for a gaming computer- do not buy this. Go spend $400 more on a real gaming computer. If you are like most people looking for a value computer then buy this. I changed the HDD to a SSD. This computer is absolutely the fastest computer I have owned. I have not found a drawback for regular computer use. Internet access, word processing, spreadsheet, listening to music, some light video editing are all super fast.

Got it on black Friday with a good price. It has been a month. I always have the following 2 issues. 1> USB ports not functioning well. Connect a Samsung S9 to any of its USB, and Windows 10 file explorer can detect the phone and show the folders, but opening a folder or copying a file to/from a folder takes forever. The same phone connects to my other PC/Laptops works fine. Downloading/Installing Samsung Windows USB driver does not solve this. 2> Quite often, it just shuts down suddenly. It is NOT under a big work load, for example, just editing an small Excel. file. I am thinking to return it....

Pros: Very quiet and fast enough for my needs. I’m not a game player so I can’t judge on that front. I added a Crucial MX500 250GB SSD drive and the system boots up in about 40 seconds. My old system took so long to boot that I’d frequently leave it on all day. That is no longer a problem and the PC even had a place to mount the SSD drive. There are sufficient USB ports for all of my Thumb drives, etc. and the inclusion of Bluetooth is very welcome. Cons: The DVD/CD drive is mounted vertically which I assume was done for space considerations. Using the DVD drive is just plain strange and requires more pressure than should be necessary to mount and dismount a DVD/CD. Fortunately, my use of the drive will be infrequent. The included keyboard and mouse are not great quality and I’ve opted to keep the setup I currently have. I believe it only fair and proper to comment on my overall purchase experience. I purchased this PC from Amazon and it was advertised as NEW. After I mounted the SSD drive and was satisfied that this unit was indeed a keeper, I went to the Acer website to register it. After I created a username and password, I was asked to provide either the Serial# or SNID for the item I purchased. I entered the SNID and was immediately greeted with the following message: “The product is already registered. Please check the Serial Number”. I then entered Serial Number and got the same message. I immediately contacted Amazon and advised them of the situation. Amazon contacted Acer and was given a Case#. After I got off the phone with Amazon, I went back to the Acer website and entered the Case# I was given. The following message popped up on my screen. “Repair Case Status” – Your product has shipped! Back on the phone with Amazon. I demanded a NEW computer and it was received the next day. I immediately went to the Acer website to register it and there were no outstanding case numbers and the PC did not come back as already registered. I purchased this item from Amazon and I was not going to deal with Acer. I’m satisfied with what Amazon did to rectify the problem but if I ever purchase another product from Acer I will be most careful to check if it has already been registered. Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase and definitely believe it is a great value for the price. Just be careful, not everyone in the world is honest!

Amazon customer service rocks. Acer technical support not so good. System booted up, went thru all the motions but didnt activate Windows (I didnt notice). First mistake! Loaded all my software, copied over files and when I went to load the MSAccess runtime program... it stalled. Because Windows wasnt activated. Okay, went to system update, click Activate... white screen. Windows Key + break... no product key. Look on case.. no key. Documentation? no key Called Acer tech support. 90 minutes of slui 4 and every other possible method of extracting the key.. no luck. Suggests I call Microsoft. I contact Amazon tech support. Another 45 minutes. They contact Acer, same answer. I contact Microsoft. Okay, 60 minutes on hold, another 30 minutes of slui prompts... nada. Microsoft says, no key, no activation. Back to Acer support. And heres the kicker.... at last I found a real technician! The Windows key is embedded on the motherboard! Moral of the story... The first Acer tech didnt understand the problem. That Acer ships PC with no Windows 10 key. Thanks but Ill stick with ASUS machines. This puppy is going back. Put a real copy of Windows on the PC and put a sticker on it to authenticate.

When my computer started acting crazy and the second opinion from my computer tech was not good. I started looking around. I have learned that it is not the manufacturer or what you pay for a system even that makes the difference. It is what is inside the case and, for me, how many expansion slots. I dont play games so that is not an issue for me. I do use my computer a lot for business and personal. The specs were impressive but now that I have it the machine is also impressive. I did purchase WIn 10 Pro as the Home version of Windows 10 is lacking for my taste. Other than that this machine is fast and quite. I love it.

Pro: Ready out of the box Con: Space for adding a second HD is too small and it cannot be fully secured. A second one is easily plugged in but could only be secured with one screw due to the rotated angle I had to put it at. Con: NOT FOR GAMING! The power supply is too low to add a video card, the on board is simply too low for most games, and as such does not include a PCIE cable to add a card. An amitious gamer can use a second power supply with a short bridge, but this is at your own risk. Con: Upgrading the power supply takes an additional, 8 Pin EPS Male to P4 ATX 4 Pin Female adapter, is needed as the CPU receiver on the motherboard is a 4 pin instead of an 8 pin that most power supplies come with. The availability and distributor reliability of this part is questionable. Just a FYI for Windows that will come up during set up. DO NOT turn on the MS OneDrive unless you already use it, turning off a synch deletes the folders content files on your computer, nothing to do with the computer maker but something that can cause permanent data lose without realizing.
