Solid suction & spring
Solid suction mount. When I peeled off the plastic film from the suction cup, I saw the cup was ringed with a super sticky substance. I am worried that this will melt off onto my dashboard, but I don’t intend to move the mount and I’m confident I can clean it if so. (I haven’t seen any other reviews mentioning this. The suction cup holds VERY tightly to my dashboard after taking the plastic film off. I actually got this item to replace a broken windshield suction cup mount for an earlier generation “Type S” brand wireless rear view camera in my car. The camera screen is about 3.25” wide and 1” deep—it just fits inside the phone holder clamp, as you can see in the photo. I have the right side of the screen resting on the dashboard bump over my speedometer, to help keep the camera stable. I’ve had this setup for a week and it’s rock solid. Keep in mind that you have to pull the spring loaded clamp open to install or remove your phone/camera/etc. This movement is a bit awkward and could break the plastic mount faster. I prefer a magnetic mount for my phone. Though it’s only been a week, I feel that overall this phone holder a good buy for my application.
