This is a amazing lens! I expected nothing less from the best lens maker on the planet! This is from my first session with the Batis; using the lens wide open at 1.8! Thanks Zeiss!

After days of undecided between Batis 1.8 and GM 1.4, I finally got this the Batis lens for several reasons that fits my needs. This is smaller than the GM, It has OSS and zero sound when focusing, and above all ... is the price with little difference on the BOKAH. Other turnoff with the GM is the earlier report, of loud sound during focusing. This lens is nicely built with modern design. Its tact sharp with nice Bokah and color rendition.

A fantastic lens that can produce wonderful images OOC (Out Of Camera). Renders as expected from Zeiss lenses. The GM85 was heavily considered, but for me form factor and weight played a role in the decision-making. The lens is whisper quiet (like the FE55) for those considering using this lens for video. It really balances well on the A7. I couldnt be any happier with the lens! :-)

I bought batis and g master (money wasnt an object - I Wanted the best) - compared them side by side and was shocked how good is bats ! theres no CA exist ,Contrast is phenomenal, bloody sharp - sharper than GM at 1.4 -1.6 , same sharp as GM at 1.7 - yet without CA , GM has severe CA at 1.4 and still has a hair of it at 1.7 . I shoot 99% time wide open - so I dont need MUSHY 1.4 - no point to have 2 times chinkier lens to shoot it 1.7 . plus baths slightly faster at focusing , and NO CA at all !!! Ive had Otus - and I must say theres 98% of otus in this Batis ! only downside is vinieting is pretty pronouncing ( not a prob for me I always add it anyway). and it makes warm pics when the GM is perfectly NEUTRAL. - which I prefer more I left baths returned GM. theres a pictures - 5000% crop !! left GM 1.4 then Batis 1.8 then GM 1.6

A stunning lens. The build quality is beautiful. The optics, sharpness, and bokeh are better than expected. The stabilization is significant using this with a Sony A7S for video. Rarely this happy with a new piece of equipment. The focus ring is the only thing less than a 10/10 as it has just the slightest amount of grit to it, and is not overly easy to use.

My absolute favorite lens! This was my first - fastest and sharpest lens - (which made it so I could not accept any less for any other lens!) I bought this for portraits, and it has worked beautifully! It is tack sharp and gives me smooth bokeh (although its not round, it is football shaped) I have also used it for nature photographs and it still impresses me!

Excellent lens for portraits. Solid build, light weight and look very nice on sony a7 series. I use this lens on my sony a7ii.

This is a fantastic lens -- Ive already done a headshot with it with surperb results- but I set up a fashion shoot of myself and Im 67 and my girlfriend just used the remote clicker on my camera- heres one photo unretouched. I love this lens and I bought it used "like new."

Yeah, I like it I recommend getting it over the g master and the Sony FE. Its a nice middle between them. It doesn’t have as much as the creamy boken as the 1.4 gmaster but 1.8 is still good for the vast majority of people and places you’ll need it and the FE is just as fast and sharp as the batis which should be considered. That being said I live in California and I’m a fairly active photographer who takes his camera everywhere. I’ve taken this to the Mojave Desert, the beaches of Dana Point, through pouring rain at Point Reyes National Forest, and to the snow in Tahoe. It’s weather sealing is worth the few extra hundred dollars if you can get it used in good condition because you don’t need to worry about getting sand, dust, or water getting into the lens or slipping into the mount system due to the rubber sealing. It’s just extra protection for your camera system that could have potentially hundreds to thousands of dollars in cleaning or damage. Also it has Zeiss T* coating that helps with flaring and reflections that the Sony FE doesn’t have and I’m pretty sure the gmaster have either.

Super high-tech lens. Only use this lens for portraits. Its super sharp and impressive. When other pro photogs see you using this lens they are impressed. The digital screen is useful but only if you use it. There is a Sony version that is much cheaper and worth the price but if you get the Zeiss you wont be disappointed.
