If youre looking for an inexpensive 35mm lens, this is a fair option. Nothing about it will have you excited, with the exception of the price. Image quality is fair--not bad, not special. The one thing of note is the auto-focus motor noise. I enjoyed it, but that was because it had this nostalgic 1980s robot gear sound that youve probably heard used in movies when a camera is zooming in. I laughed when I heard it for the first time because it is distinct and on the louder side. If you want silent operation, do not buy this unless youre a manual shooter. I wanted to try out the 35mm focal length on a full-frame camera, so this was a cheap way to see if I liked it. I would say if youre curious, it wont hurt for you give this a try. For the current price, you could probably do a lot worse.

White its a really cheap lens for what it is, its value in my opinion is questionable. When it can, this lens provides superb color quality with good sharpness. But more often that not, I have experienced missed focus, total inability to focus while a loud motor. Its price would excuse the material and build quality, but Id caution everyone given its actual usability. Its very good if you just want to take experimental shots, but stay away if you plan on taking it out on a day out.

I bought this lens one year ago, more out of curiosity than bona fide need. It became one of my top 2 go-to lenses for events. Here are my Pros and Cons: Pros: 1. I cannot believe how good the picture quality is for the price. I guess the price point set the bar for that pretty low...I expected a piece of junk. 2. Theres very little distortion. And, since Adobe has a profile for it, what little there is gets corrected in a couple of clicks. 3. Its very lightweight. As an event photographer, Ive got a flash gun in my left hand so my right hands camera & lens combo cant be heavy and this lens fills that need nicely. Cons: 1. The focusing mechanism has jammed on me twice in the past week. Its easy to unjam (just remove it from the camera, switch it to manual focus and force it free, then it works normally), but Im afraid repeated attempts to do so will likely result in something more permanent. I might be able to prevent that by transporting it unmounted to the camera since, since both the jams occurred right out of the bag. 2. It is a bit slow to focus and definitely too noisy to do any video. All in all, this lens brought me a year of solid performance. Would I do over again? Yes, absolutely. Would I buy another one if this one fails permanently? Probably not.
