Ordered this lens based on the dozens of video an written reviews. Got mine today.... spent hours trying to figure out why it wasnt consistently sharp at any f stop. Tried to tune the autofocus on my D850.....the lens got worse. Went back to default. Hours wasted. More shooting... in studio, low light, outdoors. Not great results. Was it me? A pro with over 20 years experience? I picked up my D7000 with my trusty 17-55 2.8mm. Great results, always sharp. Okay, its not my eyes. I read a sticker on the box "This is a factory refurbished lens". Gee, thats odd.... seeing how I ordered and paid full price for a new one, not a discounted refurbish thats clearly got focus issues. Still on the fence about giving this lens another try.... hopefully with a brand new, issue-free lens purchased either here on in a store.

So far so good. I just got it. Had to update the firmware to version 2 to get it work with the latest Nikon. BTW, the Tamron instructions are not very clear about the supported update. It looked like they support the update for Serial Number > 40192. I was a little bit worried since I got a 37xyz number. But after a phone call they clarified saying that the SN 40192 and above are already updated. In other words the update worked for me (although I got an unknown error at the first attempt). Now I have to go out for more testing...

Amazing lens. I bought this lens in preparation for the arrival of my granddaughter. I did research and watched all the youtube reviews. It was between the Nikon 24-70mm non VR, Nikon 85mm f/1.8 or Tamron 85mm f/1.8. I decided on this lens. It takes beautiful sharp portraits. The bokeh is quite good. Probably not as good as the 1.4 or 1.8 lenses but you get versatility with this lens. Plus the added benefit of vibration compensation (VC). This was very useful in a low lit hospital room. I also could get close 70mm head shots or wide 24mm room shots. I could not be happier with this lens.

I really do love this lens for the $$$. It is beautiful fast & SHARP in most situations with decent lighting. I have had some issues with it hunting when trying to focus and some images that were a little soft during a very overcast gray dreary day. Im still a photography newbie so Im still learning. I had the international version of the previous version of this lens. When you had good lighting that lens was very sharp. If you had less than desirable lighting or you under exposed your image the lens was soft. I decided to give them G2 a try and I chose to keep it over the Sigma Art 35.

We’ve it for all sorts of shoots. Did a wedding with it last weekend and it performed really well. You really can’t beat Tamron prices and I feel like their quality is actually starting to rival that of Nikon. Good lens.

I tried few copies of this lens, all of them has focus issue either front or back. I ended up getting a tap-in console and spend whole night fine-tuning the lens. Once thats done, the images are very sharp at most focal length. Slightly soft at 70mm wide open. So if you want to save money and willing to spend some time adjusting the lens, this is a perfect for you.

What a purchase! So glad I picked one up before my trip to Spain. Such a great performer day and night. The quality is amazing. Very sharp. I now have the 24-70 G2, 70-200 G2, and now waiting for the 15-30 G2. Thank you Tamron.

Amazing love the g2 series also have the 70-200 both are amazing. Best VR in the industry hands down. Half the price of the name brand and twice the quality. This thing is Choady af and heavy but I like that. Works perfectly on my d750 and d3400

VERY sharp lens (even wide open) with quick and snappy autofocus. VC is top notch - gives me a steady shots in very low light. I can compare it to my Nikon 24-120 F4 and I have to say it MUCH sharper and color rendering is way better. Well worth every dime.
