Nice Lens, good for trips where one lens covers two situations, the Nikon 28/300 seems clearer for the same shot at 300 yards. For the price and wide angle this is a great tool.

After watching many online videos about this lens, I finally purchased it and had the chance to use it quite a bit on a three-week vacation to the UK. The lens performed better than I expected. The zoom range on this lens is fantastic and really works well as a walk-around lens, especially if you dont like changing lenses or carrying around extra lenses while traveling. When I got back from the trip and reviewed the photos (more than 75% of my pictures were taken using this lens) I was even more pleased with the purchase.

I love having this lens since I no longer have to switch from the wide-angle to the zoom and back again. Some reviewers complain about the weight. While the lens is obviously going to be heavier than the single 200mm zoom that comes with most kits, its lighter than carrying the two kit lenses. Theres more optics with a longer focal length so it has to be heavier. in photography, as is most of lifes endeavors, you dont get something for nothing. There are always trade-offs and this lens is no exception, but for me the optic fits nicely into my photography. The only issue I have with the lens is that its a pretty slow. I kind of question the f-rating based on the f-16 rule: Under clear daylight conditions, when the shutter speed is set to 1/ISO, the correct exposure should be at f-16. I dont really find that is the case and I routinely see my shutter speeds go very low and my ISO much higher than I would expect when the aperture is wide-open. It warrants further testing. Ive made some very nice shots with this lens and am very happy with it.

After searching for the best walk-around solution and reading lots of reviews, I bought this lens 6 weeks ago for my Nikon D7100 and have been thrilled with the results. While the autofocus is not instantaneous and may occasionally search very briefly, it works just fine. It is wonderful to be able to go on an outing without having to wonder which of my two Nikon zooms I should take, since the 18-400 mm range covers it all in one. My lens purchased through Amazon Prime has given crystal-clear images with razor-sharp focus right out of the box. I also purchased the Tamron Tap-in Console, but found that no tuning of the lens was necessary. I have photographed moving targets from hummingbirds to whales and stationary objects from flowers to landscapes to the moon with it and it has far exceeded expectations. I am planning to either pass on my two kit Nikon zooms or cash them out for a macro.

8/5/18 UPDATED REVIEW-I received the correct product. Brand New, Clean and the correct 18-400mm lens. This product is WONDERFUL and I am able to zoom like never before. I love that I dont have to keep changing lenses to get all of the angles I need. I love this lens already! Thank you Amazon for correcting my issue so quickly. It was a 24 hr turn-around. Thank you! 8/4/18 I received the wrong product. I received an item that had dirt on it and that was scratched. I ordered a brand new lens, but received a used one. I ordered the Tamron 18-400mm. The box was correct with the right name, but the lens in the box was Tamron 18-270mm. I am returning to hopefully receive the new product (not used) and the correct lens.

The lens came as promised without any damage, being an amateur photographer and travel a lot this lens work for me and is not too heavy to carry. My interest is i People, landscape and wild animals, now I do not have to carry many lenses and filters with me. Photos taken with this lens was clear and sharp, great buy.

The lens is a bit heavy. It is not very smooth when you use the zoom in feature. After the 300 mark the 400 mark does not get you much closer. The full out lens is hard to keep still. The Vibration control may help with this. We wanted an all in one lens for our trip to Europe. We did not want to carry around two different lenses. This will do it for us.

So this has been a real fun lens to use, it replaces my 18-55 and 70-300 crap lenses, and gives me the push out to 400 which is minimal but useful, the vibration compensation is great when im standing and trying to get shots on the fly but TURN THAT CRAP OFF if you are doing long exposure shots because it jumps sometimes in the middle and streaks the shot, other than that which is very manageable(just turn it off) its been a great lens and i love it :)

Upgrade from 28-270. I tested one at a Tamron photo exhibit. That one was much lighter in weight than my 18-270. This one is very heavy. ☹ I wanted a longer zoom lens without the bad lens creep of my 18-270 and lighter weight. This is a very heavy lens. So far that is my only perceived disappointment. Ill know more when I test shooting the moon. Only time will tell me if Tamron fixed the bad "lens creep" on their 18-270. I have great hopes for this lens, but have not been shooting enough yet to say for sure.

Now almost a year later, no longer sharp.....I wish it was as the window of opportunity for shooting these Swallow tailed Kites is fast closing.. Soo dissappointed, hope to use the 6 year warranty.
