I bought this lens after trying out the 70-200mm Tameron GII. As someone who primarily does landscape and wildlife photography, I needed something that could fill the frame at longer distances. After quite a bit of research, I landed on this lens. Several months later and Im convinced I made the right choice. Its been very quick to lock onto subjects and reasonably sharp. (The attached image was taken on a Nikon D500 @ 320mm 1/800 sec f/6.3 ISO6400) My only issue with this lens is how it receives filters. The front element is surrounded by a rubber gasket of sorts which makes using a 67mm (the lens filter size) sized filter extremely difficult to remove. This issue is further exasperated by using circular ND and Polarizers. The first time affixing a 67mm circular polarizer to the lens took approximately 30 minutes and some careful work with needle nose pliers to remove it. I ended up purchases a 77-67mm step-down ring to comfortably use filters without the fear of them becoming perminately affixed. In future variations of the lens, I would hope that this rubber piece is removed or reworked.

I really like this lens but it kept locking up my Nikon camera which required turning off the camera, removing and replacing the lens, then restarting the camera. I really wanted to keep it but I felt that I needed to send it back while it was still new.

I had this lenses for awhile. I use it almost every day. I shot couple hundreds of photos almost every day. For the price, it is well made. Its a good lenses paired with my Nikon D 500. For flying birds like eagles, hawks and falcons, the photos came out nice and sharp. I had a problem with the camera reading info from the lenses which created errors in my Nikon camera. This lenses is not too heavy. I was carrying it with camera strap which put the lenses weight on the camera. This was a big problem. The weight of the lenses was carried by the camera. When I brought the lenses tripod support, I put the strap on the tripod ring. Now it is working well with the weight on the lenses instead of the camera. Please do not put the weight on the camera or you will have the same problem! Its a great lenses for bird photography especially for warblers. Have fun using this lenses!

Got it thru amazon as a used item..came in fantastic condition.replaced a nikon 80-400mm vr Gen.1..focuses 4 times faster than that lens...does hunt a little at 6.3 racked out@400mm in dimmer light..but for the slimmer size and lighter weight convience a fair trade off..even though it is just slightly larger that the nikon 70-300.when used/stored at its 100mm setting ..stiil a bit on the heavy side to use without a lens ring/foot..luckily found a good aftermarket one for less that $35..as opposed to the factory unit..which is well over $100(which should be included with lens..if not for cost cutting by tamron). All in all a bargin considering the construction and performance for the price!

I like this lense but know that it is huge and really should come with the collar. I am currently using it with my D7200 because it is not compatible with my Z7 with the FTZ adapter currently. I wanted something that would give me more sharpness at a longer focal length and it does that but is really specific for your use case. Pros: Sharp Cons: Large, Collar not included, not fully Nikon compatible.

The reviewers with sophisticated measuring equipment may be able to distinguish a difference with OEM Nikon glass, but I cant This lens focuses FAST and the photos are very sharp. Very glad I didnt drop $1000 more for OEM. Zoom is smooth, reasonably light weight for its size/range. HAPPY customer.

Got this for a STEAL. Not a big fan of variable aperture glass, but it works. Super light, can add a TC down the road. Always liked tamron lenses

Sharp and fast lens at a bargain vs Nikon 200-500. FYI lens will not work on a Nikon Z7 or Z6. Tamron has not released a firmware upgrade yet.
