Here some pics from my recent trips from grand Tetons, Yellowstone and San Antonio. This is my go to lens for quality, crisp pics. An excellent lens for the price!. I did use B+W 49mm XS-Pro HTC Kaesemann Circular Polarizer on some pics.

MAKE SURE you update your lens firmware (and camera firmware) to get the most from this lens. I have this, and the 50mm prime from Sony and I love both of them. Im not an expert but I can tell you practically what these lenses are good for: - the 35mm is better for making sure you get SHOTS IN FOCUS (much more forgiving depth of field), its better for video (because you dont want to use autofocus for video), and it gives you a wider field of view of course. It is similar to a 50mm on a 35mm. - the 50mm has more "reach" (zoomed in more if you like) and a smaller field of view. However, you get a MUCH shallower depth of field which makes getting beautiful bokeh very easy. That said, it can also make it a royal pain to get things in focus because especially at close range, the depth of field is super shallow. Still good for video, when you cant be right up in the action, but less useful than the 35mm. The 50mm is also going to show more hand movement (even with OSS) than the 35mm though OSS is EXCELLENT on both. The 1.8 aperture is good for indoors and low light situations, again, with the depth of field issue in mind for the 50mm. In confined spaces the 35mm would be better for both field of view and depth of field reasons ESPECIALLY in low light. I can generally shoot video at 1/50th at ISO 100 or 200 with some help from some small portable LED lights with no issues whatsoever. If you have any of the NEX cameras, then you probably know that you need to stay below ISO 400-800 for video unless youre a fan of noise. While its fine up to ISO 1600, you really get a much nicer quality video in the lower ISO numbers. Past ISO 1600 you might as well be using a cheap camcorder. The 1.8 really opens up that door and when used properly can produce some really nice looking video. The 35mm also doesnt SEEM to moire as badly as the 50mm. Im not sure if my 50mm is sharper than my 50mm or what the technical reason is, I just know that while moire is still present (thats a camera body issue not a lens one), its not as bad in stuff I shoot with the 35mm. While I prefer my 50mm for the image it produces raw, I usually reach for my 35mm when Im going to be walking around or maybe covering a birthday party or something silly like that. Mostly because I find that 35mm is wide enough for most indoor shots, though I might take my 16-50 with me in case I really need that super wide angle for some reason. If you can only pick one, between the 50 and the 35mm. Id say that if you do a lot of video or shooting in something like a bedroom sized room (10x10) that you might want to grab the 35mm. Its more flexible than the 50mm. I do use the 50 quite a lot though. Oh, and the 35mm is roughly the size of the 16-50 kit lens, the 50mm is much larger and heavier to boot. That said, if you want that delicious bokeh, the 50mm is better for stills imho. As far as image quality...well, Ill leave that up to the pixel peepers and lens experts to explain. They look pretty sharp to me and BLOW THE KIT LENS AWAY.

Dont know too much about photography, but it has taken my photos from meh with the Kit Lens to sharp, clear and dynamic with this prime fixed lens. Portraits are amazing, and for a newbie like myself that is desperate to recreate the iPhone Xs portrait mode, the aperture up to f/1.8 does a great job.

First off I love this lens. It’s my first purchase from the kit lens and it is definitely my go to. It has a smaller size than almost any other lens for its focal length. I have been noticing chromatic aberrations when wide open on shiny objects but otherwise it has been great. My only reason for 4 stars is just the price. You can buy faster lenses around the same focal length for cheaper but you lose the compactness and Sony probably knows this so they keep the lens pricey. The sel50f18 is $150 dollars cheaper which blows my mind. Other than being expensive this lens is worth it.

Wonderful lens. I recently purchased this lens and it has almost replaced my kit lens. The pictures are beautiful. The high aperture is great when taking pictures in low light. I purchased it to take pictures of my baby and it is great. The 50mm is better for portraits but this one is still very good.

I use this lens SO MUCH! It works great for all of my talking head Youtube videos. It basically equates to a 50mm lens on the APSC sensor. The auto focus is quick and pretty accurate. Its silent. Works great for photos and video! I can film myself and not worry about being in focus ever. I also love it for use on my gimbal, its so light and small and does a good job of keeping things in focus while moving. Buy it!

Im obsessed with this lens! Its my first prime, and it is phenomenal. I feel like I barely have to do any work - the amount of light this thing lets in is incredible. Im a newbie photographer, but I highly recommend this for anyone at any level.

Have this lens mounted to my Sony A6300. Awesome lens. Zero complaints. Crop sensor on the A6300 makes this an equivalent to about 50mm. Nice crisp photos with excellent bokeh. Attached are several unedited photos.

I could probably shoot almost everything with this lens. It gives subjects a crisp picture, with milky, bokeh backgrounds. The only limitation is that it’s not wide at all. Compact and lightweight, this is my go-to lens for gimbal work where autofocus has to work!

I LOVE THIS LENS! It looks amazing, the stabilization is so nice, and the autofocus is absolutely phenomenal. I use this lens to shoot weddings and I essentially use autofocus the entire time and Ive never missed an important shot yet.
