Sony SEL28F20 FE 28mm f/2-22 Standard-Prime Lens for Mirrorless Cameras

I love, love, love my 28mm f2. Not too many people talk about this lens, I feel mostly because it doesnt have a big white or red "G" on the side ;-) This is just what I need - sharp, no issues (such as vignetting), solidly built, has great bokeh, and is reasonably small and light. It pairs well with my Sony a7iii and Zhiyun Crane v2. I would recommend you skip the kit lens and 50mm f1.8 FE lens and go straight to this. Ive used it for interviews, promotional videos, events, and more. Love it.

Sharp, small, fast. I purchased this lens for my Sony A6000 to replace the kit lens. The 28m f2 has been my everyday lens ever since. Used mainly for around town and a couple of short road trips. The small size of the lens and the decent f2 aperture has been perfect for my situation. Lowlight performance for indoor and night shots has been pretty good. Bokeh on this lens is very nice. You get very creamy backgrounds with the subjects being tack sharp. Gives a nice professional feel to photographs you dont get with the kit lens. If youre looking for a sub $500 prime lens, the 28 is a very good deal.

I bought this lens used from Amazon minus a lens cap. This is now my go to lens for street and architectural photography. I hate using Canon lenses with fotodiox and Sigma mc-11 adapters because you dont get to use some of the sony features such as MF and DMF focus modes. I love to use these modes because you can turn the focus ring and it will zoom in on the subject and allow you to see if its in focus. you can then turn the focus ring while zoomed in to make adjustments. I used this lens to take pics of a wedding with poor lighting and it worked perfectly. I was able to keep the iso low because of it was a F2.0 lens. I shoot portraits and video. I love this new lens. Some people suggest other options, and there may be something better, but for the price it is perfect for me. I use it on my a6500 and my a7iii. It works well with both cameras. I love how you can choose apsc mode on the a7iii and crop in on video. The lens is fast and accurate. I really love it. I was a 70-200 f/2.8 lover before. Since converting from Nikon Ive switched to more primes. The Sony 85mm 1.8 and the 28mm f/2 are top on my list these days.

This lens is incredible. I am a pro shooter and I have used the best glass, but love a great deal. This lens is small, lightweight, and super sharp. I love my more expensive lenses, but I use this one a lot due to its small size and wide aperture. It is also my favorite focal length for lifestyle photography. A true bargain in the photography world. I shoot with the a7s and a7RII.

In a nutshell: Nice sharpness and expanded capability for an excellent price. Sony got it right with this high-value lens. Its surprisingly sharp for the price and has very nice bokeh. Excellent for landscapes and big scenes. Its my go-to lens for street and vacation photos. Its fast enough to capture most hand-held low-light situations with the A7RII. While plastic construction, it feels good in the hands and is definitely not flimsy construction. Im still getting used to the fly-by-wire manual focus on these lenses, but so far have found it to be quite usable. After also buying the 55mm super-sharp Zeiss glass, I find myself wanting just a bit more sharpness, but its still leaps and bounds beyond my old equipment. Finally, my one gripe is that it wasnt packaged with a rear lens cap. Had to pick that up separately. Seems like a cheap addition to the package, but I wont let it tarnish the rating of this lens. Next, Im picking up the Sony wide-angle adapter. No regrets at all with the purchase. Well worth every penny.

This is by far the best carry around lens Sony offers for the FE mount. When you compare the price and performance, this far out performs the 35mm f2.8, and though the new Zeiss Batis 25mm is absolutely gorgeous, its three times the price. I also own the 55mm f1.8, but this is the lens on my a7ii 90% of the time. From wide open its sharpness is impressive, its distortion is there, but easily correctable, CA is handled well, and the bokeh to me is very acceptable. Its wide enough for street and landscape photography, yet the minimum focus distance is close enough to also be used as a portrait lens. There is quite a bit of distortion when using for portrait, but Lightroom has a lens profile that eliminates that. I believe this should be offered as a kit lens over the 28-70mm. Overall, I recommend this lens over any other FE mount simply because of the value, size, and focal range. Im glad I returned the 35mm f2.8 for this.

When not doing portraits, this lens stays on my Sony A7M3 all the time. I love the great DOF capabilities of this lens. Its great for handheld shots and gives you a light portrait out on the street. See the attached handheld shot as a sample. See the other reviews and buy this one; youll love it.
