Everyone seems to be a sceptic until they try the lens for themselves. A little history: I was using Canon L glass with a Metabones adapter for my Sony A7RII before since there werent any good zoom options prior to this lens. I was fairly satisfied with that setup, that was until I got this lens. It is a WOW lens for me, and Im enjoying my A7RII much more these days. Here are the exceptional qualities of this lens based on my short experience with it so far: - At its best, it is as sharp as the 55mm f1.8 Zeiss prime lens, and it stays very sharp throughout the focus range. By far the sharpest zoom lens Ive ever used. I can pixel peep all day at the RAW images this lens produces with the A7RII and find excellent detail and sharp lines everywhere I look (so long as I didnt fudge the focus). Its a croppers dream lens. - Very nice round bokeh - not ultra creamy smooth, but definitely not noisy or jittery. - Balances well on the A7RII. It feels much better than my previous setup. No fear holding it up by the camera body. - Focuses 2-3x quicker than the Canon/Metabones setup. No flakey focus hunting either. - It makes beautiful photos. Excellent IQ. - Image stabilization for me has been beautiful. It doesnt feel as jerky as some of my other lenses, and is definitely much better than the Metabones/Canon lens setup. - Construction is solid. The buttons and switches feel good and are positioned well. The hood locks into place and feels like it can take a beating. - Constant focus distance is very nice when zooming in on your subject. And here are some nits - nothing worth knocking off a star for: - Some light fringing and chromatic aberration in very high-contrast scenes when shooting RAW, easy to fix post processing. - The zoom ring is just a tiny bit too tight for my use, making it a difficult to turn with 2 fingers. Zooming while taking video without a mount isnt pretty. Im hoping the ring loosens up after some use, though I dont have to worry at all about lens creep. - I do wish the tripod mount was a bit larger. Im used to the big tripod mounts on Canon zoom lenses, which make those lenses more comfortable hand-held, and more comfortable as a carry handle. I may look for a foam handle in the future. - For its size, it is a heavy lens. Thats a lot of glass to stuff in that small body.

Im not a professional photographer by any means, but I do take a lot of photos of my kids. I currently shoot on the Sony A7RIII and wanted a lens that can take portrait shots and also be capable of shots at the zoo. I first thought of getting the 24-70, but instead got the 18-105 which is a cheaper lens but does the job. However, I wanted something a bit MORE, so decided to get this and Im so happy I did. This takes some amazing shots and while Ive only taken a few shots of my kid, I intend to use it a bit more in other environments. Its rather fast and Im able to take moving shots of her riding her bike without any blur. Granted I shoot on Aperture Priority mode almost exclusively and have only use the f2.8 stop. The photos are tack sharp and the brokeh is absolutely beautiful. Ive included a SOCC (straight out of camera) that is totally unedited. The price tag is hefty and so is the lens itself, which makes your camera even heavier, but its so worth it to me. I still want to invest in the 24-70 f.28, but for now, this works like a charm.

I was very skeptical this will perform as well as my Canon 70-200 L II. It is as sharp. and actually goes all the way to 200mm. needless to say Ive sold my Canon 70-200. [...] That is the comparison between canon and sony. Canon lens was adapted using Metabones 4

Not the best experience when I first got this, I took it in a pretty large room thinking it would be okay for an event. It was way too close. Maybe I will use it indoors when I get a full frame A7iii. Currently using a 6500. My second experience was amazing. I took it outdoors for a family shoot and it was amazing. Absolutely love the compression. Its like an 85 1.8 for background blur but you get more in focus. Very very sharp. Cant wait to use it on the A7iii

I wont lie.. This lens was expensive as all HE*L!!! It literally took me almost an entire year to save and gather up the nerve to buy this lens. After watching and reading EVERY SINGLE review on Youtube and Amazon I gathered up the nerves to buy.. PLUS Amazon gave me the pleasure of paying within 4-5 months.. I JUMPED on that offer and purchased the lens. First impression.. Its HEAVY and solidly built. It feels like a piece of art.. I read every piece of paper that came with it.. I registered it immediately.. So,... I decided to use it.. It took a little getting used to and after the using it on a shoot I looked in the lens and I saw what I thought was a hair stuck in it... It was a little white strand.. I was VEXED!!!! But after researching.,.. I discovered its a glue strand that is common with these kinds of lenses. All you have to do is mildly shake the lens and it will detach itself from the lens. I DID NOT want to send back this $2700 lens... TRUST ME... I get home download the images and let me say... Its almost like buttery perfection.. The bokeh, the quality, its phenomenal.. I will post images soon... Do yourself a favor.. buy this lens, OR save up to buy this lens. 1 of the 2. You will not regret it. PS.. I shot a graduation here in Atlanta for a friend and my pictures (Sony A7R3 + 70-200 G Master) came out better than the school hired photographers!

I have owned Canon 70-200 2.8 before and it was my favorite lens. Now I got a new favorite. Its just because so much thought was put into details. Even that little shoe has such a great mechanism that makes it so easy to take it off and on. Glass is very good, so far I am happy owner.

Brilliant glass. I have moved from Nikon to Sony. One of my biggest concerns was with replacing my Nikon lenses. This lens does not disappoint! It is well-built, solid, focuses lightning-fast, and is tack sharp. I am thrilled with this purchase. A true professional quality piece of glass!
