This is an outstanding lens for 99.9% of photographers who want a UWA for Sony mirrorless. However, the distortion is significant. This distortion is hugely reduced by the lens profiles available in Adobe products. Almost everyone will love this lens. However, if youre doing high-end or high-volume work shooting interiors, the distortion of the Canon TSEs or 11-24mm is half or less that of the Sony. The Sony has less CA than the Canon 11-24, but a lot more ghosting from bright points of light.

I like this more than the 16-35 f2.8 Sony GM for couple reasons: 1. Smaller + Lighter = more convenient 2. They overlap at 16-24mm, so the real comparison is do you want 12-15mm vs 25-35. 12-15mm is really useful, and there are plenty of great alternatives at the 25-35 focal length, and most people already have a 35mm prime shooting faster than f2.8 Couple things that arent so great: 1. No filter = dangerous for scratching lens 2. f4 is not as open as f2.8 -- but how much bokeh would you be getting at 16mm anyways? you wont be able to tell unless youre shooting point blank at something Thus if youre on the fence, I say go for the 12-24mm, and if you want the 24-35mm range, change to APSC mode that the a7rii and a7sii has and youre more than covered at those focal lengths!

Very happy with this lens. I travel a great deal and weight is always an issue. While I have prime ultra-wide lenses, the flexibility of a zoom greatly reduces the need to swap lenses in the field or to have to move around to get the shot I want. The quality of images from this lens is very good. Now that I have had time to shoot with this lens, I will probably sell my ultra-wide primes. I wish I had this lens when I was shooting ice caves in Iceland. It is now a part of my standard camera kit for travel. For reference, I shoot with a Sony A7Rii body.

Like many people, I really agonized between this lens and Sonys 16-35mm. Im SO glad I went with this one, and I think you will be, too, if your main uses are the same as mine: interior photos and landscapes. It may not sound like much of a difference between 12mm and 16mm of view, but it really is (I know this because Ive been zooming out to 16mm with this 12-24mm lens—just for fun— and I cant believe how much Im loosing). This lens has superb sharpness virtually from edge to edge, even at 12mm. The very, very slight amount of smudging at the extreme edges of a 12mm shot is hardly worth mentioning at all. This lens is fantastic value and a truly excellent lens.

Love it. Wish it opened up a bit more, but love thats its not too big. Compromises are necessary. Love the ultra wide. Still practicing. Very useful indoors in small places.

AF didnt work upon arrival and couldnt manually focus either. Focal length was stuck as well when I tried to change it. Very disappointed but I also blame the carrier for dropping the box.
