I bought a used copy of this lens from KEH here on Amazon and have been very happy with it. When mounted on my Sony a7R II , its a discreet camera+lens combo thats small and easy to carry and use for street photography and more. I used this lens on the A7RM2 almost exclusively on a recent trip; I also took a 24-70mm lens but rarely bothered to use it. I really like this focal length, and had no focusing issues with this lens. It focused quickly, and my photos were sharp. Im uploading a few shots taken with this lens on the A7RM2, not as great art but to show the versatility of this lens and the good results it gives me. Obviously, the camera is always part of the equation - and the A7RM2 is a really good camera. But Im sure that I could mount this lens on my Sony a6000 and within the limits of that cameras abilities, get equally good performance. Im using it with the lens hood in place, which Im OK with. It protects the lens. However, Im finding the lens cap to be a little touchy, sometimes hard to get solidly in place. Also, because its so small I kept misplacing it. I intend to buy a pack of off-brand 40.5 mm lens caps and carry a spare cap.

Lens is really awesome; I am not going to reiterate the same pros and cons as already stated by other reviewers, and there are tons of reviews in YouTube too. My only concern was the original foreskin type lens-hood which came with the lens. I have replaced that lens-hood and applied replica of SONY LHP-1 Lens Hood For Cyber-shot® RX1/RX1R, Sony LHP1 Lens Hood (Black) , the JJC Lens Hood JJC Lens Hood for SONY DSC-RX1/RX1R/RX1R II, Replaces SONY LHP-1 Lens Hood, Black (LH-LHP1) along with Sony 49mm lens cap Sony 49mm Front Lens Cap ALCF49S , and it looks Pro !

Just got the lens and still reviewing it though its worth noting a few things. It may save some others some confusion. There is a small lens hood that attaches to the lens. The lens cap only fits on to the hood not the lens. The pictures listed here are without the plastic hood attachment. The actual lens filter size is 49mm. I was able to get the include lens hood over top of the filter though it was not obvious at first. If you order a 49mm lens filter and would like to use a cap with the hood then youll need to order a separate (49mm) cap. There looks to be threads on front of the lens hood and it states its 40.5 mm on the inside. Not sure if its practical to put a filter on the hood or not. This lens also does not come with a storage bag like most other ones I have purchased.

I absolutely love this lens! Its light, inconspicuous, sharp from corner to corner and it has that renowned "pop" Zeiss glass is known for. Personally, this is the focal length that I find closest to my own field of vision, so its perfect as its not too tight and not too wide. Its excellent for everyday use, especially for street photography and even in some portrait situations. This is a must in your gear bag!

I received a bad copy of this lens, it was decentered. Besides that, it had terrible chromatic aberration even stopped down, and its a shame because I really would like a lens this size that takes nice photos. Its overpriced junk with a blue badge. This lens also showed the worst spheromchromatism of any lens Ive tested, including showing 3 or 4 distinct color fringes.

I have been using this lens for a while now and didnt want to leave a review until I could give a full honest opinion. This lens is everything that Ive dreamed of and at such an excellent price! The autofocus is lightning fast and accurate, it captures every color on the spectrum beautifully, the depth of field is gorgeous, overall it is just such an essential lens and I could not see myself without it.

I love Zeis lenses, I really think this was a great choice as a first lens, Its probably my imagination but I feel some of the shots I take with this thing have an incredible warmth and depth. I use this daily with my Sony Alpha A7II it is an amazing combination.

Let me start out by saying Im an amateur photographer. Bought this lens to go with my Sony A7II, and what a combo! For the most part I take landscape photos, and this lens is just what I needed! I imagine it will be ions before I switch to a new lens. While I did feel it was on the pricey side, I was willing to sacrifice and Im glad I did. This Zeiss prime lens does not disappoint. PROS: - Amazing bokeh - Crisp, clear images - Light weight - Prime lens CONS: - Price

I absolutely love this lens. Its small and light and has amazing Image Quality especially when stopped down a little. The Bokeh is nice even though f2.8 is a tad slow. People will complain about the cost but honestly this lens is absolutely incredible. The only lenses that will have as good IQ and not be absolutely massive are either higher end Leica lenses or the old Contax g mount Carl Zeiss lenses such as the Contax g2 Carl Zeiss 90mm f2.8 ( a must have lens for the sony a7 cameras). Pros - High IQ at any f stop, absolute beast when stopped down a tad say around f5.6 it becomes sharp as a tack. - Incredible contrast and micro-contrast - small, light, and goes incredibly well on the sony mirrorless cameras. - Focus ring is insanely smooth and butter-like. Cons - None as far as Optical Quality goes but the lens is made of plastic, albeit high quality plastic, but I would have paid a small premium for a metal version. The lens is very unassuming but to me it comes off as a bit boring, lacking character.

One of the best lenses for the system. Paired with an A7 this makes a great small and stealthy street combo. I used it for my trip to chicago and got some excellent photos. Dont let the "slowish" speed fool you. If you are close enough you can get some shallow DOF if needed and the lens is very sharp wide open. If you have a FF E-mount camera this is a must have.
