Awesome lens on the A7R. It produces super sharp images. The only time I take it off my camera is to put on the equally awesome 55mm f1.8. I do not understand other reviewers fascination or frustration with the lens hood. Its a very clever design which protects the front element of the lens far better than a petal type hood would. I have yet to find a reason to take it off. Moreover, the hood takes up zero space in my bag, unlike petal hoods which take up a lot of space. There is no issue using filters on the lens, either. Remove the hood, put on filter, put hood back on. I wish all my lenses had a hood of this type.

Lots of vignetting and poor sharpness towards the edges of the frame. But small, fast, convenient, responsive, etc.

Ever since I decided got my Sony A7, Ive been using this lens together with it. It has been my travel buddy because of how light it is and it has been an all around lens for me for shooting landscapes, places, people and everyday stuff. The bokeh it produces at 2.8 is satisfying and because of how light it is, I always take my camera to hikes and long walks.

It has been a pleasure to use this incredibly sharp lens, so useful due to the portability and fast aperture.

Pros: -Light -Great image quality (its a Zeiss so you know it will be good) -Small form factor (does not draw attention) -f2.8 is a wide enough aperture for most situations -Good build quality Cons: -Expensive compared to competition -Lens hood is a strange design -Front lens cap is extremely small. Overall, this lens is awesome. You will love its size, light weight, and image quality. The price is a bit steep for a 35mm F2.8 lens though. If its too high I would look at the 28mm f2. I find 35mm on a full frame sensor to be almost the perfect walk-around / street photography focal length.

I am very impressed with this lens. First of all, the weight is amazing. I use it on a Sony A7ii and the combination weighs less than 2 lbs. Amazing! The photos I’ve taken with it are beautiful; the sharpness and colors are spot on.

Blown away by the quality and sharpness of this lens! I’ve read and watch reviews on all the hyped about this lens prior to me buying this lens. Still, blown away! Edge to edge obvious sharpness. Colors are great. Some vignetting but easy to correct in post. Performance of this lens surpasses its cost.

I used to have the 50mm that every review praises, but it did not fit my shooting style. I tried this one and it is very good. Sharp and light. Havent removed it from the camera since I bought it.

I have the A7 and for the most part only use this lens. I also bought the 55mm f/1.4, but returned it because I bought an adapter that allows me to use any of my Nikon lenses, and I have plenty fast lenses there. The 35 f/2.8 is small and light, which is great for the camera - although I do wish it were 1.4-1.8, for the extra light and also the depth of field vs the 2.8 - but this one is a good range for the price.

This lens restored my confidence that Zeiss primes are the best. This lens feels like the cheap $99 Canon 50mm F/1.8 "Nifty Fifty" - meaning its small and light (although 8X the price of the Canon) But once you put this on the Sony a7r camera - this lens shows details with minimal distortion and almost no chromatic aberration. This harkens me back to the 1980s when I used to shoot a Contax with Zeiss glass on all manual mode. This lens has autofocus, but no image stabilization or any other fancy stuff. It is just a super high quality lens in a very compact package that most people would assume is a cheap consumer quality lens.
